What is going on is the axle is rusting in two pieces from the northern states like where I live in Ohio. Ford thinks they can put a clamp on as if it was an exhaust pipe and this is not the proper repair. I purchased a new rear axle from the dealership who cares about their customers , Coughlin Ford in Circleville and it took 2 weeks to come from Arizona. My mom's 2002 Windstar had 2 of these clamps over the rusted area which is wrong. I did a complete rebuild of the whole rear end including brakes , e-brakes shocks coils just everything because I Love my mom Mary Call and care for her safety. If I knew how to post photos here I would for proof. All my employee discounts for Coughlin Ford and O'Reilly's I was able to do a FULL rebuild and I did the labor to make sure it was correctly repaired. I guess it didn't matter much because she died 1 month later November 10 2023 in her sleep. I Love you Mom with all my heart
The total for all my parts was around $1,200. If your dealership won't try to find the parts because all they wanna say is it's discontinued then call Chance at Coughlin Ford in Circleville Ohio. He has found about any part I need where all other dealership will not try. Chance cares for all his customers. Just tell him Carl Call posted this message. I am well known for my mouth and what I have to say or looking for on vehicles.
Wow! I have a 2001 Windstar and it has more unsafe design flaws than I can name. I didn't know about this one! Thanks for the heads up on this rear axle issue. Going to trade it in soon!
I have one of these vans that has had the recall work done on it. However, I've seen videos where even with the repair brackets that Ford put on the axles they still come apart. The problem is they used epoxy glue to hold the brackets onto the axle and the axles come out of the brackets. I've had my brackets welded onto the axle so the axle can't come out.
I called Ford on 3300 s Kingshighway on yesterday about my axle breaking they didn’t repair it I’m still suck trying to get it repaired what shall I do any opinions please
someone realy close to me owned a 2001 Ford windstar. on october 15,2010 the rear axle cracked and he lost control of the van. he crashed into a building and died. his passanger was seriously injured. Ford needs to take responsibility for this and take all ford windstars off the road NOW
My van had there recall done. My axle still failed. It didn't crack, it bent though right where they put the bracket. It put my tire into the body of the van. Luckily I wasn't on the highway. I had to fight with Ford, they finally relaxed the axle for me. Didn't cost me anything but the annoyance of time.
Mine broke too. I had just got off the freeway. thank god. I took it to the Ford dealer because I got a notice of a recall. I thought they fixed it. but they just put a bracket on it. (a band-aid) I had to pay $800 to get a brand new one! ford would not replace it because I lived in the salt-belt. but the van came from Alabama. my father in law was the previous owner.
@Adrienne2321 you cant find the part because they dont want you to buy it since its a recall, call ford give them your vin and then take it to a dealership.
Not fake at all, I was replacing my exhaust hangers on my 98 windstar the other day and noticed the crack in the axle so i looked it up and sure enough its a recall so now its in the shop and everything is free.
Ford is so bad they have to take 15 year old platforms from Volvo in order to make a decent car. The new Explorer has a modified 2003 Volvo XC 90 platform.
DUH!!!! I tried telling you guys to post this on the news way before they did, You just did not even get back to me, It happen to us in my family van also. Check out my video under chaseww, Thanks for getting back to me channel 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2nd gen only is what my mom had AND it never happend to my mom either because it didnt get affected. what im saying is that it doesn't affect every single car.

Go online to Ford.com/recalls. Run your VIN and see if your vehicle has the recall on it. If so take it to a Ford dealer. They will fix it for free.
recall on this go to dealer
