- John Croman investigation follows a group of minivan owners attempting to convince Ford to replace their transmissions, which failed surprisingly early. Technical service bulletins drew attention to a problematic aluminum part, the forward clutch piston. (Copyright KARE. All Rights Reserved.)
My Mom's 95 Windstar used 4 Transmissions with the first one failing at 39000 miles. The van ended up being repossessed after the 4th transmission failed on us in rush hour traffic. We have moved to Chrysler vans and haven't looked back. Our Chrysler vans have NEVER had transmission problems.
.......whoa!!.......thx for the headsup........:)
Very, very lucky. Everyone I know who have owned Chrysler minivans have all had transmission problems. My grandmother almost bought a 1994 Ford Aerostar brand new but instead went with a Plymouth Grand Voyager, and it started slipping within 50,000 miles of owning it. Bought brand new. They went ahead and paid to have a brand new transmission put in it and that one started slipping within 50,000 miles again. Maybe it was coincidence? Idk, they didn't replace that one. It had around 97,000 miles when they traded it. They didn't drive it much.
I would look at Toyota honestly, I’d stay away from Chrysler if you want longevity.
That dial-up though.
I wish I were in the 90’s aside from these problems. I like how the older cars looked. Plus simpler things like that column shifter at 0:29. It was a mix of old and new.
The only american automatic transmission stick placement i want
At the steering wheel
Not the aesthetics, its just better than next to your seat
I disliked most of the 90s cars looks wise except the 95 to 98 Windstar. These are good looking cars imo.
being at only 50,000 miles, that transmission definitely should've lasted longer
I have 1996 Windstar from new. No problems here we are in 2016!
have a 1996 windstar with 202k and i pull a motorcycle and trailer behind it every weekend in arizona climate. no problems yet Fords roc k
Just sold my 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8 V6. Transmission felt like new. 140,000 miles
Mine had a transmission problem. Replaced a few sensors and it fixed my 1999 Windstar. I use it for other purposes today but it works fine now.
........so thankful for these vids.......have spent a fortune on my ford taurus ........dealerships are a farce..........mechanic told me to get a dodge caravan........gotta love that guy.........💜
03 Ford Windstar with over 294,000 miles on the original motor and transmission, ran perfect just like it was new. The only reason why it ain't going now is a woman speeding on her phone drifting off the road and smashed the front of my van. I have no doubt that that thing would have drove another hundred thousand miles easy.
The Ford Junkstar.
I wonder what the real issue is here: Other than the headgaskets getting replaced (front at 150K, rear at 220K), our '96 Windstar has the original untouched AXOD-E still doing its thing at 300K miles. Nothing done to it other than fluid and filter changes. Did we get one of the "good ones" or what?
You must have. Most are junk.
I’d get the last year 98 cause it’s the most reliable.
I had a 1996 ford Windstar and now at the junkyard due to transmission issues and the van stop moving I will tell you the hole story about it 1 year ago on Christmas it starting to make noises at take off and I been driving it alot in may it got stuck in first gear the next day the transmission died right at 143,000 and wasn't worth fixing I've been having alot of problems with it over the years
Chrisfix has one but he stopped using it because it has transmission problems
My Dad had a red 96 Windstar LX 3.8V6 never any issues with it!
My 1996 ford windstar gl is at 111,000 miles and the transmission is still going strong
I'm about to buy a 1997 Windstar from my aunt lol as a first car first thing I'ma do is take it to a collision repair shop and have the rear axles checked I don't want it to snap and kill me lol 🤣 I'ma make sure it's safe for more years to come I won't have it long but still lol but also plan to mod it big rims maybe engine and trans swap touch screen radio subs mini fridge upgraded electrical and upgraded alternator and battery 👌

Cool video
Austin, just wait. I've had dodge caravans & Dodge Grand Caravan each one of them has had at least two transitions. I am currently experiencing with PCM issues 2005 free star which was supposed to be my new vans I wouldn't have transmission problems & here we go again. I even told the car dealer of my past issues with transitions and said I didn't want another transmission vehicle and he said I will never happen again
I owned a 1998 and 1999 Ford Windstar. The transmission went the hell on both. These are piss poor transmissions.
I'm 75 years old and have been driving since I was 16. Most of my cars were American made and a sad lot too. Over the years I did buy two off shore cars, a 78 Datsun and a 1995 Geo Tracker. They were not much of a car to brag about but were the best cars I ever owned as far as dependability , and price-cost performance. The worst cars I owned were Minivans an 1989 Voyager and a 2003 Windstar, they were the worst vehicles. The American Automobile Industry raped us car buyers for years. They deserve to go belly up !
My grandpa has had 3 wind stars and 2 of their transmissions have went bad not looking good for wind stars lol
I have a 98 wind star work van with seats removed it has 250,000 miles on it with minimal problems
This is why I have a Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.
look at dem buck teeth you have what a ugly bitch for sure LMAO!
Honda oddyseys have had notorious transmission problems!
.......yeah........heard good things 'bout those minivans.........thx for sharing.........:)
Toyotas are the best minivans imo
I enjoyed the vedeo.I have a windstar as well.....with transmission........problem//
I wonder if it was programmed badly😮
This is dissapointing, considering how this van was marketed toward parents and families
Those transmissions sucked, they were inadequate in the cooling department .
The union refused to represent this Union member UAW and the Ford Motor Company failed to represent an honor their warranty to this employee I'm not real happy about it
Go get'em
We have the same problem with our 4l60e lol
This van has a lot of problems.. Gauges flutter.... Shift Tubes Break..... Transmission Troubles... And more, This Ford Company should be made by the Government to buy these pieces of junk back.. They are a death trap!
Ford Junkstar.
It is the worst auto in transmission and mine was 1998 in 2004 I spent $2092.00. The electric parts really bad. Traded for kia Sedona 2005 that has never until now no mayor problem 2022.
Dodge caravan for ever!!!!
OH NO
Chrysler minivans the best for ever !!!!!!!!
0:27
1994-1995 models were the worst!
That car $36,000 bumper to bumper warranty failed never honored not one penny was spent on that car even when I went to court and tried to sue the court found in favor of their own local Corporation the dealership ignored me I was not allowed to give my side of the story even the female Magistrate Judge got up and walked away everybody walked away I will never ever ever purchase or advise someone to purchase any product with the name Ford on it there is a reason why Ford is not making cars anymore they have investment in Kia and other foreign corporations to make cars for them so they can profit
