      That is the reason why I love my shitty motorized bicycle. It only does like 35 mph maybe 40 if there an exhaust leak (the thing goes through gaskets like nobody business) it's not fast but because of that you are always on the bleeding edge of performance, wide open 24/7 braking as late as you can etc, just to keep up with someone going a bit fast on the parking lot. You can do all those things and still not be breaking the speed limit.

      You'll get a surprise alright trying to stop in damp conditions with those shitty little wheels and the lack of centrifugal force when cranked over. Keep your Groms.

      Done a little riding on a friend's Honda Metro, and I agree. That little thing makes 35 mph feel pretty damn fast - especially when you're relying on its tiny drum brakes to haul it down from that speed!
      Also, I drive a 1.6L Miata - which goes with this philosophy in four-wheeled form.

    Why is there so many negative comments about the grom? This style of bike is used in many countries to get around town and not get stuck in traffic. Also these are great platforms to stunt on because they're relatively cheap and easy to work on.

    One point to add to the GROM is mod's. It's the perfect bike to learn how to wrench and do it yourself. Add a pipe, tuner, new bars and then go big with a performance cam... Bump into the rev limiter at 70+mph.

    • @TheAnnoyingBoss

      Sure but I don't want to spend 4k+ just to burn my engine out in 1/3rd the time. That's why I wish they would increase the fuel tank by a half gallon and then somehow work some black magic to cram the rebel 300 engine into it from factory. Maybe take that opportunity with the extra power to convert from chain drive to belt drive that way people buying it have else maintenance to do. Less nasty greasy cleaning. It would really be a much better bike if it was just twice as big of engine side and the rebel 300 engine is barely over double the displacement. It's a visually much bigger engine so idk if it would fit, would be tough, but it would turn this 125 into a rocket

  • @Carlos_500

    I agree with wanting to be tapped out, that's why I ride a CB500, when I get off I feel like I have ridden, my 1000cc and 175bhp bikes just felt frustrating for the road. Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Fun video, thanks

If you're thinking 26k is too expensive, you might want a better paying job, especially for your lady whom I can guarantee likes something more than 1/4 carat diamond ring. assuming you have a lady. just a thought, not being rude.

    These videos are great, I sure look forward to the next ones. The footage makes you feel like you're there and the narration makes it informative and fun.
    About the bike - the first time somebody told me about one and I googled it, all of us in the office laughed at how funny it looks with a grown up riding it, but after seeing videos and how much fun everyone has and how much everyone loves them, I think it's a great idea and I think they will become really widespread in the states and become a classic.
    I just might end up getting one, but it's kind of a tough sell versus a used bike for the same price that can manage to go 75mph when needed.

  • @bolivardigriz8847

    My first bike was a 1975 Honda CB125S. I'm sure the speedometer was less accurate than the Grom's is, but I'd see 65 mph if I tucked down under the paint. It would also get 75 mpg even if I wrung it out on the Palisades Parkway. That was 150 miles on like $1.50, and $12 per year for insurance in New Jersey (Scheisswetter means shorter riding season, plus there were better car drivers here back then).

      No, it's not just fewer cagers. The quality of drivers has really gone down in the last 35 years in this area of the country. People used to signal lane changes and turn into the first lane back then, even though the average car was bigger. Now it's damn near third world.

Everyone from garage attendants to car drivers to neighbours to fellow 125 riders like it. Absurd little machine costs nothing to run or tax, can get a way with the most cheeky of maneuvers, and cornering on little 12" wheels is truly terrrifying! All adds up to a neat little package straight out the box that is fun for new riders and experienced alike.

      Siper2 Scooter haters just have fragile egos. Once you see how nimble, practical and economical they are, it must makes sense to always have one in your stable. Motorcycles just can't compete as around-towners, errand-runners and grocery-getters. Heck, there are even plenty of good reasons to choose a maxi scooter over a motorcycle for light touring.

      @@TKO-1503 I haven't ridden a Grom but they're very entertaining. More nimble I'm sure, but for city riding or short commutes, I'd give the nod to a scooter. Tons of storage in those things make them very appealing. Grom is fun but mainly for goofing around. 🙂

    Hi Zack,
    Your comments you expressed about the Grom are many of the thoughts I had when buying my 201 CTX700N. The crazy thing is that the CTX cost just a couple bucks more than the Grom! I also concluded that the 2014 CTX700N costs just a few dollars more than the Sears Moped that I wanted to buy in 1962. Of course the dollars had to be adjusted for the dollar value change from 1962 to 2017!

      Benedict Benjo If you're gonna go small displacement, you might as well go with a bike that's lighter in overall weight, too. Then you can wring a little more out of a small engine. I would take a Grom over a 125 Eliminator.

    comparison with a Benelli tnt 135?
    When looking up the local internet market (EU) its ~ 500 bucks cheaper with the same amount of HP, downside beeing that there will be not many aftermarket parts for it ofc.
    When it comes to styling, i think the benelli can snatch away some customers from honda tho (sharp edge styles, integrated indicators) and a exhaust that looks and sounds already acceptable for something straight out of the factory.
    will definitely check it out.

    It does kinda make sense for a bike racer to have a way slow yet reliable bike for the street. Because he can still ride the machine at it's limits without breaking the local laws.

    If they made a 250 Grom, people would lose their mind

    • @skimplyblimpz
      @skimplyblimpz 5 лет назад

      I dont think they would. Kinda defeats the purpose of the grom. Its whole deal is just how tiny it is. If people wanted a 250 "sport style" bike they could get a 250 ninja. Or a 250 enduro because everyone makes a 250 enduro.

    I went into Kawasaki a couple of years ago to check out their little 125, I ended up buying a deeply discounted ZX10R 30th anniversary in green. Thousands off MRSP. Now that that loan is wrapping up I'm thinking about the Honda Monkey next spring. I know they will ask full price and the same thing might happen like a big discount on a Honda Africa Twin.

    You know, I don't understand why these bikes are as slow as they are. I'm currently in the market for some old enduros and every time I test ride a 125 (yes I mean 4 strokes I understand that 2 isn't a fair fight). I have no problem squeezing 80 mph out of them and would have much less trouble putting one on the freeway than a Grom or a kz125 or a VanVan.
    Friend of mine even has a 110cc Honda scooter I'd rather put on the freeway. Of course, on that note I think that old Honda is a little faster than any of the 150cc scooters I occasionally get my hands on. At least I understand why an extreme low budget Chinese model, like a TaoTao wouldn't be up to snuff with a Japanese model that was made for a serious purpose.

    So I'm 15 thinking of getting a grom as my first bike for many reasons, but I am wondering so I am used to riding bicycles which are light, how hard is it to balance/ride a grom weight wise

    • @614.johndada
      @614.johndada 5 лет назад +1

      @@kleinbottled79 I do ride on the street, and I know how to read traffic, and law's and all that, I've known about all that since I was about 11-12 years old. But yeah I was just hoping the weight wouldn't seem as heavy as it says.

    • @614.johndada
      @614.johndada 5 лет назад +2

      @@kleinbottled79 Oh no I know what you mean, I know, just like everything in this world, it evolves and changes, you will never know what exactly someone on the road is going to do. You can only make a guess, and hope your right, it's very important to watch your surrounding always, especially when slowing down, stopping at a light or stop sign, cause just because you noticed the lights red doesn't mean the person behind you noticed. I've gotten hit a few times from cars that weren't paying attention just riding my bike on the road, also happened when I was riding dirtbikes with my friend. You really just have to pay attention and be ready for the worst.

      He's right tho, with the standard exhaust they're so muted it's too quiet and unexciting an exhaust note, trouble is that they run very lean as standard, so fitting a straight thru pipe like a Yoshi doesn't do the engine any favours so you need to spend that much again on a Power Commander Fuel controller to richen it up. Starts to get very expensive!

    Cool vid/review. I'm 6'1 1/2 & im considering getting the grom for my 10 mile commute to work here in NYC. How tall are u & how comfortable would I be riding on such a small bike? It would also be my 1st bike ever & riding ever.
