One teacher to another: your presentation is as good as it gets. These kinds of vids take more effort than most people know, it's understandable that you posted two then stopped. At 54, coming back to the sport after 38 years, I've learned to take my time, be patient, and build new skills (or rebuild old ones) incrementally, methodically, precisely, everything grounded in the fundamentals of technique. Piano, recording engineering, composing, photography, and now bmx... videos like this are deeply appreciated, and RUclips is poorer for your absence as a teacher in this space. Wishing you all the best, wherever you are 🙏🏼
Thanks man! I have been working on a huge video and needed a few more shots but I unfortunately sprained my thumb pretty bad and have had to put it on ice. I will 100% be dropping another video this year
Bro I am 39 and trying and pretty dedicated to learn a proper Manuel, Hop, Hop Bar, 180 and fakie. I work from home and watch ALOT of tutorial video and I promise your videos are the best for beginners. You focus on mastering the build up to the trick and the troubleshooting which is everything when trying to learn this crap. Please keep going and looking forward to a full Manual and 180 video in the future.
Just wanted to say this video is without question the best I’ve seen for progressing your bunny hop as every other tutorial teaches you to go straight for the largest with no build up. Now after practicing the looping out I’m way more confident and now able to commit to the better technique. Thank you and I hope this video blows up as it deserves to do so.
Sorry to ask more of you as this tutorial is so in depth, but I’m currently working on getting the hop higher. You say that you push of the bars harder to achieve this (which I’ve done) but my front wheel still doesn’t come up us much. After watching you bunny hop for ages I notice you pull your bars in with straight arms and then push out which you mentioned. So am I correct in saying that you do a yank into your hips and then a push out? Or does it just look that way and you are in fact just jumping with straight arms and pushing? Not really sure if this is the best wording😂 No worries if you don’t answer I still really appreciate this video!
@@PublicShenanigansall good! When you start getting them higher, the steps are all the same, you just go through the motions faster and with more power. Your arms should stay completely straight until your back wheel starts to leave the ground. If I had to guess, you might be trying to bend your arms to get your front up. Focus on keeping your weight back and arms straight until you extend your legs fully. Hopefully that helps!
@@SlowGrindBMXHey I’ll be honest I was getting quite frustrated as I was convinced I was not pulling the wheel up with my arms as they were straight. So I started again from the very first steps and turns out I just had to wait a fraction of a second longer as I leant back before straightening my legs and now my front wheel is coming up higher and the handle bars are naturally coming closer as I jump. It’s funny, I felt like there wasn’t much progression other than the timing feeling a lot smoother and easier until I watched back my recordings and that’s when I noticed the front wheel and handle bars. The reason I’m writing this is also just to urge anyone trying this DO NOT SKIP OR RUSH ANY OF THE STEPS. I thought I wasn’t but I did and because my foundation wasn’t completely correct I couldn’t progress. Thanks again I really appreciate all your help and I can’t wait for more tutorials!
nice this is helpful. i've been riding for two weeks and can hop over 12" obstacles, but after watching this I realize my form is terrible haha, I'm just brute forcing it like a barbarian. these details are super useful, I'll be out tomorrow working on my form instead of height.
Great tutorial. I was looking for a tutorial focusing on the appropriate technique and found this one. It seems that my mistake is that I start to stretch my legs at the same time that I start to lift the front of the bike and that way I don't get much height. I will try to apply this technique in the coming days. Thank you very much.
Like others, I've likely seen EVERY bunny hop video and tutorial. This is the best explanation of the steps and progression I've seen. Thank you for the time and effort. Much appreciated.
I,m 50 years old & back in the old school days like from 1987 up to 1991 is when I rode , now in my 50s I,m back to riding again . Back in 1991 I had to quit riding because I had to have a surgery that took away the ability to flex both ankles fusing them together , I lost the ability to bunny hop completely , I,m not in any pain but I just don’t have the flex I need in my feet to do a bunny hop so now all I don’t is flatland & every time I see a jump , my heart gets heavy just because I know I can’t do that anymore , I’ve kinda came to grips with it but my mind misses those days .
i can get some bunny hops down from time to time but i got more used to doing an ollie, this vid was the most helpful one yet for me to get the bunny hop right
with a street bmx it's very easy to execute...with a 26" DJ, it requires strength and maybe some bmx jump experience...with a 27" / 29" MTB hardtail, it's quite difficult to do but doable, those who use full suspension MTBs, they usually cheat, lols...with a roadbike, or cyclocross or a fixie w/ drop bars - my my my you're in for a hard time! :)
how different would it be to do it on a fixed gear? I've seen other tutorial telling people to not lean back but simply jump while staying at the middle. Would be very nice to hear you thought, very informative tutorial btw!
As a teenager i could hop so high , as a 38 year old every other hop is high but they are tense and dont feel as smooth as they used too Hopping into grinds feels really messy i need to refine the motions more and make them fluid again
When I see people nose diving, they are focusing way more on scooping than they are jumping. Go through the progressions in the video and make sure you are popping off the back with your arms straight
How do i prevent my feet from coming off the pedals when jumping? The last time I tried to bunny hop my left shin got absolutely shredded from the pedal
It’s hard to say without seeing a video but I’d recommend starting small and keeping your weight back. Feel free to post a video and I can give you some pointers
Hard to say without a video but my guess is that you are trying to use your upper body too much and not focusing on extending your legs. Your legs have to be bent and arms straight while your front wheel is up to jump
You really don’t pull up the back. You have to jump but your body needs to be in the right position. Try to record yourself and match the positions throughout the video

I've probably watched 100 bunny hop tutorials and no one has explained it this well. Great job, and thank you.
Thanks man! Best of luck learning

Gotta say this is tied for #1 Bunny Hop how to vid, imo…great approach. Not there yet, but thanks to this great info, getting there.
I watched like 20-30 videos about bunny hop and yours is the best to learn all the steps. Thanks!

Hey man I am 28 and learning to ride a bmx for the first time despite always riding mtb bikes. This helped me a lot thank you
I'm in the exact same situation. This video made it 'click', it felt really easy afterwards.
Possibly the best tutorial I've seen for bunny hops in ~15 years
one of the best bunny hop videos ive found on youtube, thanks man. please keep more videos coming in on how to progress on bmx.
thx a lot dude i've got a problem with pulling bars up and down but now im going to practice pulling it backwards :)
La mejor explicación que he visto hasta ahora! muchas gracias!

easily the most helpful bunny hop tutorial here on youtube thanks!
THIS GOT ME MY FIRST BUNNY HOP!!!!
Great to hear! Keep it up
How are your hops now?
Thank you for being in detail it really helped me learn
finally a guide i can understand thank you for this
Your channel seems to be exactly what I needed. Subscribed
Thank you, brother.
I have seen a lot of how to of bunny hop, this one is the best I think. Waiting for next tutorials.
like your art of telling things!
Nicely done! 🤙
good shit my g, thank you.
great video. thank you. keep them coming please.

This is a great tutorial
SUUUPER HELPFUL
Holy shit dude this is great
Whenever you are practicing looping out make sure you go slowly so you can stop
i was doing every single thing on trouble shooting cant wait to try and fix this tommorw
it worked btw
holy shit, the quality of this vid is sick!
i can get some bunny hops down from time to time but i got more used to doing an ollie, this vid was the most helpful one yet for me to get the bunny hop right

Extremely different. I have no experience with fgfs bikes but would think you would have to use pedal pressure to generate your pop
As a teenager i could hop so high , as a 38 year old every other hop is high but they are tense and dont feel as smooth as they used too
Hopping into grinds feels really messy i need to refine the motions more and make them fluid again
On a mini do scooping but I go very low because I can't jump with that weight
Mtb*
What's your highest hop?, I've done 38" I want more
will pushing the handle bars foward mid jump bring the back wheel up?
It will level the bike out but it shouldn’t be what gets your wheel off the ground.
My problem is i got a bad habit of nose diving on the landing. Should i try to focus on landing back wheel first?
When I see people nose diving, they are focusing way more on scooping than they are jumping. Go through the progressions in the video and make sure you are popping off the back with your arms straight
How do i prevent my feet from coming off the pedals when jumping? The last time I tried to bunny hop my left shin got absolutely shredded from the pedal
It’s hard to say without seeing a video but I’d recommend starting small and keeping your weight back. Feel free to post a video and I can give you some pointers
How do I lift up the back wheel after getting the front wheel up? Im switching the weight points and pushing the bar but nothing seems to work
Hard to say without a video but my guess is that you are trying to use your upper body too much and not focusing on extending your legs. Your legs have to be bent and arms straight while your front wheel is up to jump
I can't do it, can you give me your email or anything I can send you a video trough and tell me exactly what am I doing wrong
@@LeechGaming2feel free to post the video on your channel and I can send you a breakdown
ruclips.net/video/VqS0oFRglKc/видео.html@@SlowGrindBMX
I have the same problem too.. new to BMX too.. I believe due to a weak lower body since you’re pulling up the bike with your legs and not your arms
You know when I do the pushing thing I have fell over cause I lifted my front to much and fell on my back
That's why there is a section on practicing looping out. You have to know how to bail before you start getting too high.
Right now I’m practicing looping out and I just fell on my ass😂
Lmao stay safe and start small. Keep your legs bent too so you can jump off the back
@@SlowGrindBMX I know, I jumped off the back and I slipped
Bro listen I’m 13 and I try but my bike is bigger then yours and yes it is a bmx does that mean it is harder to do??? Plz tell me
Yeah, it will probably be harder to learn but you can still do it. The bike I learned bunnyhops on was 50 pounds and I was probably 100 at the time.
180 PLS
Can you be more clear on pulling up the pedal? I cant understand
What time of the video are you talking about? I don't think I talk about pulling up the pedals at all.
@@SlowGrindBMXlike you say on 3:35 and I can't understand that you say pulling up the backward
3:25
I can't pull up the back 😢
You really don’t pull up the back. You have to jump but your body needs to be in the right position. Try to record yourself and match the positions throughout the video
Oh my god stop over complicating things
It’s two steps and knowing how to loop out. I wouldn’t call that complicated my guy
