I agree 100% about bar height impacting bunnyhop height. I was away from Bmx for a while & now getting more modern geometry. I switched from 8.25” bars (used to be the biggest you could buy) to 9.5” bars & instantly couldn’t hop for shit. I had to angle my bars forward a bit so I could hop without hitting my bars on my lap. They do make manuals WAY easier though (for me)
I recommend getting shorter Bars about 9" rise to a 12.5" Chainstay and taller bars about 9.5" to longer Chainstays like 13". In the End its personal preferences but when I looked for a new Frame, I watched a whole lot of Bike checks. Most people with slammed 12.5 rearend ride 9" Bars sometimes 9.25 but rarely above that and people with a bit longer Chainstay ride taller bars like 9.5 rise. Of course there are a few exceptions, like Dan Lacey with 8.75 bars and 13.75 rear end which is really long. I was really picky when it came to a frame. I rode a 13,25 chainstay with 9" Bars. I switched from 9 to 9.420 bars and it felt much more better for Bunnyhops. Now I switched my frame to 12.75 slammed chainstay and it now feels even better, sometimes even too twitchy on hops. To compensate that ill try to lower my bars a bit more with a Frontload stem to make Technical stuff more controlled.
I ride 9" bars and 13.25" cs and it feels great. And also the stem rise also affect cause i ride high rise stem :D and also i did change my bars to 9.5 but i feel like my hop seems harder to do. Probably its too high for me cause im short lol
I found it harder to hop when I put my 10in bars for sure. Im riding a Souljah with the wheel in the middle of the dropout so its about 13 even. I can hop better with 9in bars but my back hurts after riding around in that position. I need to find a happy medium.
I started today and i was able to get like a few inches off the ground. Lmao. To me its an accomplishment. Im gonna try what you show here and add it to what i was doing. I noticed i felt like i got more air the higher i lifted the front, so good ok thats good to know.
Yea iam 6"1' right now my BMX has 9in rise bars and that is too small for me as soon as I get the money for it iam looking at 10in rise so I would definitely say if your bigger get bigger bars
STRENGTH IS IMPORTANT. I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO BUNNY HOP UNTIL I WAS WELL INTO MY 30'S RIDING A 26" INCH WHEEL MOUNTAIN BIKE, JUST TO JUMP CURBS INSTEAD OF SLOWLY DRAGGING REAR WHEEL UP CURB. HERE IS A TIP, TAPE OR TIE SMALL WEIGHT PLATES OR LIGHT FOAM DUMBBELLS 3LB FROM DOLLAR STORES TO FRONT AND REAR OF FRAME. PRACTICE A COUPLE DAYS WITH WEIGHTS ON FOR VERY SMALL HOPS, REMOVE WEIGHTS A COUPLE DAYS LATER AND SEE A BIG IMPROVEMENT. ALSO DOING THIS WILL STRENGHTEN WHAT MUSCLES THAT COME INTO PLAY. YOU WON'T BE AS SORE, " IF YOU BUNNY HOP WEIGHT TRAIN"
Excuse me good sir, been trying to get into bmx for years, i have a beautiful setup now, im wondering if the bar width will have much to do with bunny hops alone? I know it would be a nightmare to do any kind of bar tricks but since i cant even hop yet properly im using my wide ones, though i do have a spare pair of shoter bars, would it make any difference at all if i was to change them? I quite like the look of it and feel of it with the wide bars but i cant see it going well when i go try doing tricks in a park woth them on 😅
So in my opinion, it all kinda depends on your body. For instance, some people bench press super wide because their leverage is better that way, while some people might do it a little closer. So it kinda depends on your muscles. For me, I think I’m stronger when my arms aren’t as wide
@@DustinNotJustin Is it normal for my feet to come off of my pedals, because when I pull up and try to tuck my knees my feet just go off of my pedals, any tips on that.
Hey man, starting 2021 with a bang and cold! Regarding bunny hop, i am fine when there is no obstacle in front of me. But everything seems gone when i try to bunny hop something. It's a combination between speed and feels that there isn't enough time to hop over. Any suggestion?
Makes a lot of sense. The best thing is to start off on smaller/safer objects, like a curb, then an amazon box, then a tall ledge. Its very similar to my problems with half cabs. If i do them slow, I can hop really high, but at high speed its much harder. That's just kinda the nature of the bunnyhop. You just have to learn how much more force is needed at faster speeds, timing, and body weight distribution.
Like I mentioned in the video, that is an option, but also everybody's body/personal preferences are different. The main thing is, try adjusting things on the bike to put yourself in a better position to succeed :)
There's no time indicator. The more you practice, the quicker you'll get it. Just like if you worked out every single day, you'll see results much faster than if you did once a week.
I have real problems getting my front tire up. I am better at getting my backwheel up even. I do not think i am doing the pull up correctly at all, but i seem locked into something
I just need some help i can lift front wheel up then back like a bunny hop but i cannot like get my bike high my front wheel is high but rear is not coming up that high
It seems like you are pulling the bar but you are keeping your weight on the pedals. I think that is one of the missing tips on bunnyhop tutorials. As you pull your bars, your weight should also be going up vertically.
@@DustinNotJustin Avenue 2009? I wanted that bike when i was a kid and i finally got it 2 months ago. Found it in like new condition for very little money. Im learning to bunnyhop and everything on that bike. What an awesome coincidence to come across it in your video.
I’m 5’8”. Yeah that’s kinda too big in my opinion. But like I said, there’s a lot of factors. But if it feels like your reaching or not getting good leverage, might wanna consider something a little smaller. At least 21”
Thanks man. I am really struggling 180 so much,, i dont know which is correct the throwing of hips around without bunnyhoping or bunnyhoping into 180. I am and literally struggling hahaha

Tnx bro so much
Im using lower handle bar in order to pull the bar up higher.
I tried this experiment and i ended up going back to my tall bars
I’m 6 foot and a 21 inch frame is perfect for me.
Debatable, but I'd say whatever your most comfortable with is best
Any tips on how to get your back wheel up
you have to use your legs in order to get the back wheel up. So tuck your knees into your chest as you're pulling upwards
@@DustinNotJustin Is it normal for my feet to come off of my pedals, because when I pull up and try to tuck my knees my feet just go off of my pedals, any tips on that.

happy new year homie, thanks for helping us all progress
Happy New Year my man! Always willing to help if i can :)
When my front wheel gets off of the ground like that, my back wheel doesn't get off of the ground at all.
scoop your pedals up w your feet and really tuck while jumping. focus on bending your knees as much as you can upwards.
I’d have to see a video of you doing it to get a better idea, but my first thought is you’re prob pulling “back” instead of pulling “upwards”
Always the good stuff from you man!! Keep up the good work! And thank you!

Why some do manual to lift the front wheel up? Ur body is centred when lifting the front wheel. Which one is better?
I’m not sure I understand the question
@@DustinNotJustin the first step when lifting the front wheel by shifting body to rear similar to when doing manual
Try moving the bars a little more forward get more leverage that way
Like I mentioned in the video, that is an option, but also everybody's body/personal preferences are different. The main thing is, try adjusting things on the bike to put yourself in a better position to succeed :)
@@DustinNotJustin I heard Dan krok s say that when asked why his bars are so forward
