Thanks for the How To Billy! I'm working on manuals now and I definitely see some things I've been doing wrong. I start too far back, I've been trying to pull up already at my balance point instead of pulling up and shifting back like you said. I'm also too low I think. You're a bit higher above the tire than I am. I am an expert at looping out now haha! I will definitely second the warning on the pegs, I started doing manuals before I put pegs on my bike. The first time I looped out after putting my pegs my heel got stuck on my peg! Something I started working on instead of just focusing on distance is hopping in and out of a manual. It mixes it up while you're learning manuals. Once you can manual just a few feet then you can start practicing these skills while you work on the distance.
My friend got me into MTBing, which then led to a DJ bike and dirtjumps and pumptracks. Now, I got first BMX bike...minus my GT Performer in 87. lol. Yo, these vids have helped me out tremendously. Riding parks is all I wanna do now. Appreciate these man.
I like how to talk so much about what not to do. That actually helps a lot. Good approach. Maybe the best manual video yet and I’ve watched a lot. I just uploaded my first manual attempt yesterday.
i have watched a few how to guides and feel like the knowledge expressed here by Billy has been the most helpful hopefully nail the trick after work tonight.
I know this is quite old, but what I've noticed just riding around practicing: wear a back pack with a tiny bit of weight in it, a decent text book or something, I've notice when I have my bag with my skateboard attached to it, I lock in for a tiny bit longer, than when I'm riding with nothing. I'm assuming the counter weight helps your balance point and I'd you practice that a few times then either take a bit of weight out after 5 solid attempts, then repeat till you take the bag off all together. Don't know if that will help anyone but it's something I've noticed my self 🤟🏼
From another vid by Slow Grind on bunny hops, landing safely when looping out requires your knees/legs be bent, NOT straight as he demonstrates just before 4:00. If your legs are straight you have no way to ‘spring’ off the pedals and land safely. Thanks for these vids. FTL vids are some of the all time best, for real.
I usually ride around 65-70PSI at the start of the week (or mainly sundays) and i have to tell you that on saturdays i manage to pull the longest manuals just because my PSI drop down a bit. With more PSI the back end is more responsive, try to go with 40-45PSI at first to feel more comfortable
Hey thanks a lot for making this video I'm relatively new to bmx I have been practicing wheelies a lot and want to learn manuals first now a bit before wheelies. Again thanks and great video!
i have a question, if i ride left foot forward but turn to the left and my left foot is more comfortable being off the bike, why do I can can with my right and or
So when picking the front up is it with your arms then straightening them? Or is it all one fluid motion of having weight forward then shifting back and that pops the tire up?
So I have a frame with near exact geometry as the Voyager you ride. I also have 165mm cranks. Been hitting my back foot often on my peg while manually. I wear a size 9 - 9.5 street shoe and so I don't feel that might foot is too large for a short 12.5 chainstay. Is this something that you have had to deal with? Do you consciously try to angle your back foot down while in a manual to avoid catching your foot?
What would be a good intermediate-advanced complete bike to get. I have been looking at the Fit street completes it I wanted to see what you would suggest.
Does bar height matter when doing a manual? Because my bars are lower than avg bmx bars and I was wondering if that makes it harder or easier I’m 5’8 and my bars are a little lower and smaller than the avg bmx bar
The thing that I wass forgetting when Im trying to learn how to manual more is to bend your knees! or just imagine that your going to sit on your back tire and your knees will follow then use your knees to control your balance by moving them backforth as you see everyone else doin Dont give up! I haven't 🙃
I just started BMX for something new since the weather is shitty and I can't skate as much. Ive been uploading all my sessions in my shorts if anyone can give me tips. I think pedal position is what I'm missing, I notice everyone has one pedal lower and that seems to be consistent with everyone I watch.
Hey Billy, I wanted to ask about your bars like their specs(Height,Width,Upsweep,Backsweep etc.) And i think i heard you said in one of your videos you will release them this year. Thanks!
Hey I'm getting into bmx I'm 13 and 5'5 I got $400 in savings for this I can ask my parents but they wont be keen on adding more than like $100 is there any bike I can buy online with a freecoaster that would be good please give me advise even if its individual parts
When trying to learn manual, I looped out and, instead of falling on my butt, I forced myself to land on my feet, landed on one, heavily crouched, and broke my left fibula. Just sharing.
@@eunangallagher1199 Yeah, but how tho? I think my problem was that my knees were too bent, my ass was even lower than when I stand straight on the ground, I almost touched my back tire. So when I bailed, I had no room to soften the impact, jammed my leg underneath, and crushed it with my own weight.
@@rogerbravo5724 Well, two monts later, kinda? idk, i can manual for like 2 sec, it's not just a pull up, but not a good manual either, and i did bail a few times without new broken bones, so...
im 43 re living my youth all over and ftl your step by steps are prob the best out there
I'm subscribing. You're right. First week back at 31. It's hard
Just want to add that when I learnt the manual I found it easier having my toes on the pedal not so much my sole of my foot

My favorite trick. So simple and versatile and it builds bike control

Them Begin tires look beefy. Also, does psi affect the manual?
Yes. I use 40 psi

I have the issue of picking up with more force on the right than left. I cannot manual… but I can bar tap both ways. I’m always off balance
Fakie manual with a rear cassette would be nice.
I'm 14, I'm trying to get in to BMX. do I need an expensive bike to be good at it? also do you think its to late to get good?
You will need something that’s good, so I would go to your local bike shop to get the right size as well
Kink gap 2021 is good for u cause its affordable and good quality
Hello friend what is easyer manual or wheely?cool video....have a nice time from germany😊😊😊
What size cranks are you riding?
165mm
Can anyone give me tips on bailing cause since i don’t know how to bail i get more nervous on manualing
Yeah, I need them too. Broke a bone on looping out three weeks ago.
@@ramziel can you do them

Is it possible to learn these riding slow?
It will be difficult if slow. Medium speed is good
Damn I’m that early
