Robin James yes it's really good! Any tips on getting waxier products out of your hands after styling? Soap and water just doesn't do the trick. Also, any products that are similar to this but with a higher hold?
Love the fact that you're always true to yourself and to your audience. We know that it will always be a honest review, that's why you are the only men fashion channel that i follow nowadays
Thank you. I’ve just received mine 2 days ago and I love it so far. It holds my hair nice with that nice slight shine that other products don’t do for me. Legend
Finally a review! I remember I asked for it but I did later decide to buy it and I love it! Super easy to apply and hair looks and feels like never before. It takes some time to wash out the product from hands but you only do it once so not a problem really. Many products with good hold makes my scalp hurt when i style it is pulling which hurts and making styling hard but with this one never. And best of all you I only need very little amount to get my desired hairstyle. Thank you Robin James! :)
Just got this today in the post. Robin i tell you what, this product is amazing. Tried many premium products, but this stuff is quality and the restyle game is the best, best. Makes your hair feel soft but with that swaz. Good recommendation.
Great review as usual Robin. Great review indeed. I have fallen in extreme like/near love with the product as well. So much so, that after receiving the Lock Stock and Barrel scent, I instantly order the other scent. Might be the first time along my clayquest that I ordered a second jar of the same product after one try. I used it three days in a row, also unheard of for me.It's now in my top 5 rotation, and in my top 3 petroleum based clays.
James, love the transparency.I think if you did a product it would be the best product in the market because of your point of view, that consists of looking at every single aspect of the product and what you would change from it. This point of view that most of RUclipsrs dont have makes you apart from the rest, which will make you exceed with your product,Cheers
I’ve used this for about a year and it is by far my fave hair clay. It’s very matte which I love. It can sometimes be a little dense so I mix with the looser Vo5 Matt clay when I want a slightly less matte look 🙌🏻
I recently purchased the Lockhart Matte Clay after watching your video with James Welsh. It is amazing for my thin hair and it’s so easy to work with! I was using Hanz De Fuko’s claymation but was looking for something easier to work with. I feel like the claymation was too rough for my hair type and I would lose hair every time I would apply it. Thanks for the recommendation 👌🏽
Plus I do use the vanilla and mango beard oil from apothecary 87 used it since it was released with chris millington! Smells amazing! Great review too btw
I used the mango/vanilla variant for quite a while I really liked the scent. The hold was a bit low for my hairstyle but gave it great definition. So I finished it of with a blast of hairspray and was set for the day. Currently I'm using the sheh.voo clay and finding it very similar to the Apothecary one. Great review as always Robin!
Great video as usual. My absolute go to are Arcadian Clay Pomade and Black Label Craft Clay and it working well with me so far. So sorry if this is too much to ask but can you make a video like top 5 hair clay for people with fine hair.
I just got this product. The finish on the hair is nice but my hair feels really greasy/oily. I only used a little today and its reacting with my scalp
Thank you for doing this review! Been waiting for this. Love that you compare this to the Lockhart one. Easier for audience to imagine how the product works. Any other clay you think that is similar to this one? Baxter Clay maybe?
Hey Robin, check out courage clay. It is super matte and has a very interesting hold. It styles my hair much better than lockharts or claymation or any other product. Also, because you have fine hair, if you do pick up this product, use it it multiple layers to decrease the stickiness and experiment to use a little to quite a lot. If you use a lot it doesn't give it a different texture, it just increases the hold. Honestly Robin, I think you will love this smaller company's product. Oh and it smells amazing.
It does smell amazing though I find Courage Clay has a good amount of tug and pull, and it is honestly too matte for me, makes hair really dry looking. It's also way overpriced simply for the fact it comes in a tiny container. It is a good product though especially since it is water based and washes out without shampoo, though still provides good hold.
Excellent review Robin and I agree, it’s a great product. I alternate between this and their Pomade (water based one). Their Pomade does also work well as a pre-styler. Have you tried the matte paste?
Greetings from beautiful Greece Robin! Haven't commented in a while due to college + job haha. Excellent video as always. I was a bit hesitant to try this as I am really loving my Reutzel pomade but I definitely want to try it now especially due to the fact that you said it doesn't really need a hairspray after to hold your hair in place (yes I am a hairspray dude as well hehe). Thank you for all the info. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers!
Hey Robin! I know you're not the biggest fan of pomades, however Shear Revival Crystal Lake is regarded as the best unorthodox water based pomade. Overhyped?!
Robin James It's a great one but I would say that O'douds All Purpose Pomade is a better version of it. More hold, less sticky, same ease of application and washability. Also lasts longer throughout the day. Scent is like a pepper-y lime to me.
Been waiting for this one! I got the vanilla and mango scent (though it actually came completely unscented which was a shame) and its my favourite for getting a tidy side-part going even with curly hair.
Great product. Love it. I’m just a bit confused. Is clarifying shampoo needed to completely remove the product or will normal shampoo do? (classic shampoo seems to work fine but better to be sure)
If you like this clay, HairBond Hair Toffee could be a great product for you. Almost identical performance, but without the wax in it. Washes out with just water and leaves your hair pretty soft after washout :)
I live in canada and ordered the product on a whim from your favorite products video. The only thing that sucks is that i had to pay close to $40 in duty fees which was less than ideal, if the duty wasn't so high i would definitely make this my go to product!
No where that I was able to find, I have friends living in the uk who are going to bring me a care package full of it when they return to canada so I don't have to pay the crazy fees.
better then uppercut deluxe matte clay pomade? UppercutDeluxeMatteClay is my favorist, the best for every day! but i am looking for an alternativ product (sems to be impossible)
I definitely want to try this out after I'm done with Cavalier Clay. I just have a question, is a "Clay Pomade" just like a regular clay or is it really a mix between clay and pomade? Also this is probably a dumb question but is the one that robin uses the same product as the vanilla mango one, just a different scent? If anyone can answer I'd really appreciate it. Cheers!
Robin, check out KEUNE blend clay from Amsterdam. It has some serious healthy ingredients to it and great hold. It has no presence on youtube, which is surprising
Great product! But as other clay products after applying into the hair if there is still some product left on the hands it has that sticky clayish feeling, which I cannot get out with soap. It goes away with some time, but anyone else is annoyed by this and maybe has a solution?
Hi Robin! Really like this product, have the vanilla mango version! Have you tried bluuman cavalier clay and also aveda clay? Know you tried he bluuman hybrid... what would you recommend similar to apothecary and hdf claymation worth looking at for hairstyle very similar to yours with normal-thick curly hair? All the best!
Can you do a review on Anchor's Aweigh Courage Clay? I've heard a lot about it, and I love it myself, but I have thick-ish hair and my cousin wants to know how it would work on fine hair( cos he has fine hair).
Hey man, i have dry skin and Im looking for a creamy skincare product. Do you have any recomendations? I feel like you are the perfect person to ask :)
Robins hair type and face shape is the exact same as yours, to all of you who still don’t think it’s honest, I can confirm it, it’s hold is simply unbelievable to me with fine hair.
You mention Lockhart's Matte Clay in this vid. Would you recommend that product for a guy with a whole bunch of fine hair at a medium length? I'm really looking for volume and hold, as the majority of products I've tried in the past haven't been able to give me both of those things.
so, im only using waterbased products and only once or twice a week, i only wash my hair with shampoo once per 3-4 months but wash it with only water every single day, i found it comfortable for me, but am i doing it right?
So, you said "oil based", does that mean I'd have to shampoo my hair every day with this stuff? You've recommended we use water-based products so we don't have to shampoo every day, right? What product in this class would you recommend that is water-based?
Can you try and then review Mitch matte finish hair reformer! It’s honestly the best hair styling product I’ve ever used! Because I straighten my hair I find adding a lot of products just add too much moisture to my hair and it starts going curly and frizzy so the Mitch product works for me and I can even go to bed without washing my hair wake up andit still looks great! Amazing! Go try robin :)
Hey Robin! Please make a review on the Clutch Clay by TheSalonGuy. There are some reviews about this product and some people say it is the best clay ever made. Would love to hear your opinion!
acronym I’ve seen 2-3 reviews of this product on all of RUclips. And, per usual, Robin was the only reviewer that remained unbiased and didn’t praise it like the others. Still on the fence about Clutch (and Clutch XL for that matter).
Apothecary 87 clay -- It's a medium to pretty good wax. BUT the smell is horrible (the Vanilla Mango). It's like a cheap scented candle. I thought it would go away after awhile -- it never did! I woke up the next morning and thought, 'Who is burning a cheap candle?' Ohhh, it's just my hair.
Can you please review the PhenoMENal Molding Paste by GotToBe its a good cheap product that has medium hold low shine and gives natural touch to the hair and i use would be nice of u to review it! Thanks if you read ❤
This one has been a long time coming! Can't believe I've never reviewed it for you guys.
Have you used it?
Robin James yes it's really good! Any tips on getting waxier products out of your hands after styling? Soap and water just doesn't do the trick. Also, any products that are similar to this but with a higher hold?
Better late than never :) thanks for the review bud!
I find it very difficult to work into my hair, not sure if I'm doing something wrong
can you do a review on Osmo matte clay extreme please?
Robin James which pomade would you recommend for medium shine, strong hold but that’s not sticky, greasy?
The best hair product reviewer in the house
Thank you!
aditya patnayak ayy ! My name is Aditya too !
No doubt Robin James is one of most honest RUclipsrs I have ever seen . Keep up the gud work .
I just get to the point. Other people are out there, for sure.
BUT thank you.
Love the fact that you're always true to yourself and to your audience. We know that it will always be a honest review, that's why you are the only men fashion channel that i follow nowadays
Thanks Emanuele.
Robinnn
your sunday uploads are a huge breath of fresh air . makes me so happy
Ah, thanks David!
Robin has yet again made my hair look that much better.. Thanks man!
Thank you. I’ve just received mine 2 days ago and I love it so far. It holds my hair nice with that nice slight shine that other products don’t do for me. Legend

I LOVE IT!

Robin
Hey! Thank you.
Hey Robin, could you do a summer fashion video soon? I love your sense of fashion.
I will do when I get into summer, for sure!
Robin is THE MAN. Love from India 🇮🇳
Love to you and India.
Finally! Thank you for this. Please do an honest review for Morris Motley Chrome, too! :)
Yes, for sure!
Plus I do use the vanilla and mango beard oil from apothecary 87 used it since it was released with chris millington! Smells amazing! Great review too btw
I'll be trying the other products soon, for sure.
I love your honest reviews Robin! So well done 👍🏻
Thanks Erin

Any advices for a pre-styler for THICK hair? Nice video as usual Mr. James!
Hey, what sort of thing are you wanting to do with your hair?
Great video as usual. My absolute go to are Arcadian Clay Pomade and Black Label Craft Clay and it working well with me so far. So sorry if this is too much to ask but can you make a video like top 5 hair clay for people with fine hair.
I just got this product. The finish on the hair is nice but my hair feels really greasy/oily. I only used a little today and its reacting with my scalp
Hi Robin, I really enjoy your videos. Subscribed to you last week!
Hey Devin! Welcome!
Thank you for doing this review! Been waiting for this. Love that you compare this to the Lockhart one. Easier for audience to imagine how the product works. Any other clay you think that is similar to this one? Baxter Clay maybe?
Thank you! It's pretty unique from other clays to be honest.
Just please u have the right to grow as a RUclipsr. Looking at your content it's top notch.!!♥️♥️
Thanks. Been around for 5 years now. Happy with how it all is.
Hey Robin, check out courage clay. It is super matte and has a very interesting hold. It styles my hair much better than lockharts or claymation or any other product. I alternate between this and their Pomade (water based one). Their Pomade does also work well as a pre-styler.
Have you tried the matte paste?
I'm going to try their other products. Really keen to see what they're like.
LOVED THIS REVIEW (I love all of your videos) your inspiring and very honest, I hope to do what you do later on😁
I've also been subscribed for about a year
Great video as always, Robin. Would you recommend it over Black Label Craft Clay?
Hey! Totally different products, but it's more inline with what I like.
Would you recommend this product for short textured fringe styles?? Also Class Videos Robin!!
Hey Vladimir, good to hear from you.
Hope college and work are going well.
Hey Robin! I know you're not the biggest fan of pomades, however Shear Revival Crystal Lake is regarded as the best unorthodox water based pomade. Overhyped?!
And as always, an amazing product review! You've truly made yourself a big name on RUclips! Always here to support!
Really want to try, for sure. And thank you.
Robin James It's a great one but I would say that O'douds All Purpose Pomade is a better version of it. More hold, less sticky, same ease of application and washability. Also lasts longer throughout the day. Scent is like a pepper-y lime to me.
I loved Crystal lake.
Been waiting for this one! I got the vanilla and mango scent (though it actually came completely unscented which was a shame) and its my favourite for getting a tidy side-part going even with curly hair.
Love using it for a side part too.
Can you so more reviews from their line?? Shave soap, salt tonic??
Finally you did. Thank you.
Would love to see a review/breakdown of Murdoch's new hair product line that's about to launch. As well as some of the other House 99 products.
Great product. Love it. I’m just a bit confused. Is clarifying shampoo needed to completely remove the product or will normal shampoo do? (classic shampoo seems to work fine but better to be sure)
This product really works for me - thank you.
If you like this clay, HairBond Hair Toffee could be a great product for you. Almost identical performance, but without the wax in it. Washes out with just water and leaves your hair pretty soft after washout :)
Ah, okay. Will look out for it.
Hey Robin, I think you should try Indonesian made pomade, I recommend Smith brand. It works very well on tropical weather
Will have a Google for it.
You should check out The Mailroom Barber’s Matte Clay. Would be interested in what you have to say about it.
Will keep an eye out for it. I haven't heard of the brand.
Apothecary 87 clay pomade vs. Lockharts matte clay brand battle???
I live in canada and ordered the product on a whim from your favorite products video. The only thing that sucks is that i had to pay close to $40 in duty fees which was less than ideal, if the duty wasn't so high i would definitely make this my go to product!
Ah, that' annoying. Nowhere in Canada that has it?
No where that I was able to find, I have friends living in the uk who are going to bring me a care package full of it when they return to canada so I don't have to pay the crazy fees.
This is legit one of my favorite products
Hey robin
Please give us a review on tigi bed head matte seperation it will be so helpful for me!
On the list!

please review the matte paste as well, I'd love to hear your honest opinion on it in depth.
I'm going to try the other products for sure.
Robin can you please try Bona Fide matte paste. I have seen really good stuff from it because it's lightweight but also great hold.
Ooh, I don't know it. Will keep an eye out!
Robin, check out KEUNE blend clay from Amsterdam. It has some serious healthy ingredients to it and great hold. It has no presence on youtube, which is surprising
Will keep my eyes peeled for it.
I did my one styling cream, just a little fun for a chemistry
Great product! But as other clay products after applying into the hair if there is still some product left on the hands it has that sticky clayish feeling, which I cannot get out with soap. It goes away with some time, but anyone else is annoyed by this and maybe has a solution?
Hey! It's just something you have to go with. It's heavy hold and fairly sticky.
Would love to know what you think about Dapper Dan matt clay. Personally think it’s great.
I don't know it but I can add it to the list.
Great look and hold but my girlfriend made me throw it out because of the gun powder scent haha. Waiting for the mango vanilla to arrive from the UK
Awesome, just order some! Thank you!
Hope you like it.
Please review Layrite matte cream!
Thanks for suggestions! Need more Aveda in my life.
Can you make a video with getting this haircut so I know all the details
Like top length from front to back and side clipper length and so on
Hey Robin..how is it comparing to the hanz de fucko claymation? Please
Hey Robin, any thoughts on the Apothecary 87 matte paste?
Hey robin, i love your chanel sepcially for your unbaised reviewes
Good video !!!! I'm gonna try and get this product thank you!!
Let me know how you get on
Apothecary 87 vs Fuertes clay??
Robin whats wrong with some waxes, clays that bind the hair together when you use them ?
Hey man, is the hold good enough for thicker hair? Cheers
Great Review Robin! Huge Fan! Thoughts on Reuzel Matte Clay thoughts?
I have the Reuzels products. Just need to fully get into them.
Robin James great! Looking forward to the review! Keep up the good Work!👍👌
Would be great if you could review Trade Union Supply products.
Can you do a review on Anchor's Aweigh Courage Clay? I've heard a lot about it, and I love it myself, but I have thick-ish hair and my cousin wants to know how it would work on fine hair( cos he has fine hair).
Could you review Pacinos matte. It's really amazing.
On the list, for sure.
Hey man, i have dry skin and Im looking for a creamy skincare product. Do you have any recomendations? I feel like you are the perfect person to ask :)
Ooh, yes! I want to get a video together on something like this. Would you like that?
Hi Robin, try Moroccanoil texture clay, it's lit.
Robins hair type and face shape is the exact same as yours, to all of you who still don’t think it’s honest, I can confirm it, it’s hold is simply unbelievable to me with fine hair.
Glad you like it too!
Could you do a review on Lockhart’s authentic hair pomade? I love your honest reviews and would like your opinion on it.
A few products to get through but I love Lockhart's. Will take a look.
How does this compare to Baxter of California’s Clay Pomade?
You mention Lockhart's Matte Clay in this vid. Would you recommend that product for a guy with a whole bunch of fine hair at a medium length? I'm really looking for volume and hold, as the majority of products I've tried in the past haven't been able to give me both of those things.
I love that product. A looser hold the A87. But it's great.
Thanks for the reply, Robin! Love your vids
Do you use the Thicker Hair - Aveda before using the clay pomade ? :)
Do you know by any chance why they don't sell the gunpowder scent online?
Yes! I contacted them to ask. It was a limited edition. Now done. Just the vanilla and mango now.
so, im only using waterbased products and only once or twice a week, i only wash my hair with shampoo once per 3-4 months but wash it with only water every single day, i found it comfortable for me, but am i doing it right?
If it works for you, go for it.
But only washing it 3/4 times a year seems too little.
So, you said "oil based", does that mean I'd have to shampoo my hair every day with this stuff? You've recommended we use water-based products so we don't have to shampoo every day, right? What product in this class would you recommend that is water-based?
Can you review smooth Viking styling clay!!
I don't know it, but will note it
Do one on hairbello there's no review on that almost anywhere
I don't own it, but will think about buying it.
notification squad is going strong yay!
It certainly is!
Would love to take a look at these.
This compared to Kevin Murphy Night Rider in terms of hold and texture for a guy with your hair type?
I don't use Night Rider unfortunately. Sorry.
Brand battle pls bring it back I am dying for it
It will be back soon(ish).
How would this product compare to, say, Arcadian clay?
Will you review Apothecary 87's other products?
Bobzeda You did not properly wash it out of your hair, the hair scent wasn’t your style.
How does this compared to something like Baxters Clay Pomade which is also oil based?
Hey, it's got a much stronger hold.
Robin James Thanks!
I was waiting... 😥💝
And here you go! Hope you enjoyed.
The hold is lighter than reuzel clay?
What’s the best product for fine hair?
I've done a few videos for fine hair. Have a look, should help.
Can you please review the PhenoMENal Molding Paste by GotToBe its a good cheap product that has medium hold low shine and gives natural touch to the hair and i use would be nice of u to review it! Thanks if you read ❤
Have you try duke and hyde clay? I believe its from England
I've not. Need to!
Apothecary clay or Layrite Cement clay?
U need a trim the moustache Robin... Love the video btw!!! :)
I also need to take the bins out, make my bed, book a holiday, draw up a business plan and see my friends.
Robin James Well don't be passive aggressive about it!!
Robin, could you do a review on Anchors Courage Clay? >.
Would love to.
