Starting a Handyman Business is NOT Risky - Here's Why

    In this video I talk about why starting a handyman business is actually less risky than working a day job.
    Most businesses carry a lot of risk with them in the form of large startup costs, overhead, and a low likelihood of success. You've probably heard the saying that 9 out of 10 businesses fail in the first 5 years. Well, that doesn't really apply to the handyman business.
    That's because when it comes to the handyman business, you can actually expect to succeed. Since the business is so hard to scale and for one company to dominate the industry, the financial rewards are much more evenly distributed between professional handymen. Even if there are already 100 competitors in your city, there is still likely enough work for you.
    Since most service providers actually suck and aren't motivated to give great service, it's easy for a motivated person to rise to the top.

    I was a handyman. Now I provide yardwork service. The advantage is recurring income. I can do a bathroom remodel and make a great payday, but, no regular, predictable income. I do a yard clean up ( I call them Overhauls ) for a nice pay check, and get paid to maintain it every month for the rest of their life!

    I started working as a handyman calling at my side business. at first it was just a few hundred dollars a month but it quickly morphed into enough income to replace my day job.
    I love working for myself, helping people, in making a lot more money. The biggest part of being a handyman and growing your business is the referral customers you will get. Some of my clients have referred me to a half a dozen other people. That alone makes you feel that you're doing something right.
    No matter where you live in this country there is not a house that doesn't have a door that squeaks or a toilet that you have to jiggle the handle. In other words no matter where you go there will be a job waiting for you as a handyman.

    Hi thanks I’m learning many things my big question is if I’m going to offer handyman services di I need sny work licensing or business licenses if I’m starting or trying if handyman is good for me di I still need any licensing

    • @billysyms5761
      @billysyms5761 3 года назад

      Check your state licensing board. Here in California if you make less than $600 a day or per job, you do not need a contractors license. A few cities require that you have a Handyman license to work in that city but for the most part you actually do not.
      Thing is though you'll be making far more than $600 a day so it pays to obtain a contractors license.

    Pick trade in construction any trade work it for 2 years under jorny man or less. I recommend HVAC. As I am HVAC master it's breeze to learn. Even if like me I couldn't tell you how ac unit gets cold I can run duct in any application. I know how air flows and how measure it. The rest is doing piece work makes you happy. • @Joeygalvez494
      @Joeygalvez494 5 лет назад +3

      Then you calculated wrong. But then again I live in California. My father in laws business doesn't require him to work that many hours. Most I see him work is around 40 ish

    • @shannonp4037
      @shannonp4037 4 года назад

      You should have a reasonably fast mower and bill out about $75+ per hour. Having a helper at $15-20 will get more work done quicker. Gas and insurance need to be accounted for. Work 40 hours and your helper for 40 hours is 80 hours of labor. If you billed at $75/hour, you’re making $6,000/week for a minimum of 26 weeks. So $156k/year. Pay your helper $1,000/week is $26,000/year leaving you $130k/year before gas and expenses. Call it $100,000

    • @simple-steve
      @simple-steve 4 года назад

      @@shannonp4037 not sure if your math is correct. 40 hours for you and 40 hours for your help is still 40 hours if you are working together unless you work 40 and he works 40 in addition to your 40 would be 80.

    • @gwarlow
      @gwarlow 4 года назад

      Simple Steve He is calculating separately simply because the hourly rates are different. Of course they each work the same 40 hours but since he pays his employee less it is easier to calculate each as a separate 40 hours.
