- UK Gladiators - Series 3 1994 - Episode 1 - Heat 1 - 10th September 1994
Claire Hillman (Company director from Bristol) versus Erika Rogerson (School teacher from Lancashire)
Gladstone Mackenzie (Builder from Northampton) versus Dean Pollen (Sales manager from Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire)
Notes: From this series onwards, 6 events are decreased to 5 events plus the Eliminator at the end.
From the heats, the individual coloured uniforms for the contenders are changed to salmon pink and vista blue for the women and red and blue vests with black shorts for the men.
One of four new events is not featured in the first Heat which one of them is supposed to be, so instead, Swingshot is the first Heat to be played in an event line-up.
There are no new gladiators for this third series due to no changes to the Gladiator line-up.
New Gladiator cast member: Timekeeper: Derek Redmond as a replacement for Andrew Norgate.
Lightning played a blinder in this episode. Truly an elite Gladiator!

I love how when people struggle with the eliminator, John Anderson is supportive and KNOWS you can do it and gives advice. I know it's his job, but so many would just stand and watch...
Well you have to be impartial, but once it's decided, help them get through it. Like running a first marathon, you want to finish it no matter what.

30 Years ago Today, The BEST Series of Gladiators Began with a BANG!
That men's Powerball game was brilliant. 14 points scored against the best men's team.
This season was the peak of Gladiators in terms of Contender quality.
Loved this season! Great effort so much appreciated! Lightning was brilliant!!

I just realized that Trojan changed his costume for this series. In his rookie season, he had a two-piece outfit, but starting here, and for the rest of his run, he had a one-piece costume.
What a competition, particularly on the mens side. Excellent show! All winners in my mind.
Great contenders in this episode, all 4 of them.
Another channel I follow posted a few episodes from the first two series and I totally got hooked in. I vaguely remember watching American Gladiators as a kid, so even though this is the UK version, it's still packing in the nostalgia. Thanks for sharing. I'll be binge watching them now for sure.

Series 3 change: 1 less game per episode (was 6 now 5). Pyramid made its debut this episode.
Looking how far Erica was standing when being interviewed by Fash I did not realise that social distancing was in place back then.
Probably because at 2:13 you can see him swoop in for a kiss. There's all kinds of yucky stuff like that in the show from both presenters and contestants.
It's pretty obvious some if the male gladiators were on something to grow that big. But I'm confident Wolf and Saracen were legit

Erika was getting her shorts pulled down a couple of times in Powerball. She was running to M&S for a new pair of knickers😂

I see when John Fashanu asked Claire if there was any part of the eliminator she was worried about she gave the same answer that Ingrid Reynolds does in series 4 all of it.
Not sure about the contenders outfits in the heats - particularly the mens'.
Did Ully actually just say rememberable when interviewing Gladstone at the end 47:23 Jeez, you’d think a TV presenter would know which words are real and which are not!

Yes I heard it was both the wall and hand tough she was unbeaten on throughout the 90s series
@@gemmacade9963 No Lightning lost a bunch of times on the wall. She was unbeaten domestically on hang tough, Skytrak and Pole-Axe

@@gavinjohnson2640 To me I've only ever heard "Off The Road" said here in the original UK Gladiators, I've never heard it used on any other show regardless of the year
Also in light of The Amount of HEAD HIGH TACKLES used in POWERBALL this series I thought I'd count them & award 2 POINTS for each offence I catch seeing as they did that in later versions of Gladiators (Mostly from The MALE GLADIATORS)
No Incidents for the woman so it remains:- CLAIRE 12 POINTS vs ERICA 2 POINTS
GLADSTONE Had 1 Head High Tackle so I added 2 POINTS to his 12
DEAN had 3 Head High Tackles so should get 6 BONUS POINTS but I knocked 2 POINTS OFF because at 12:04 he SHOVED His Hand in SHADOW'S Face
So the official scores after penalties would be:- GLADSTONE 14 POINTS vs DEAN 6 POINTS
Dean double teamed for pretty much the whole of powerball.........they obviously felt he was more of a threat.

@11:56 that was almost a judo tackle there shadow did. Also Gladstone's shorts and shirts got ripped several times. On American Gladiators, we had some crazy incidents too.

Yes, actually. 1994 was the year she gave birth.

Yes she certainly was. Ulrika gave birth to her oldest son in October 1994 so would have been around half way through her pregnancy during the recording of this series.
Shadow got kicked out this year for steroid use and failing a drug test
