It actually shows the attitude of people and has nothing to do with if it's a first or third world country. For example, the streets of Rome( Italy ) or Paris (France) are full of trash while Warsaw ( Poland ) is squeaky clean.
Most of the areas in Sri Lanka are cleaner than it used to be. People has changed their attitude towards dumping garbage here n there. But still some people noy changed. I wish all over India will be clean like in Shimla and no honking

300Rs for that threewheeler ride was cheap. They normally charge over 400Rs from locals for shortest distance. Even 1 litre of petrol costs around 400Rs in here now

Use the railway map of Sri Lanka to explore the country. Train rides to Anuradapura ancient kingdom, Polonaruwa ancient kingdom, Ella and Jaffna will give some of the best country views. Reserved seating is a must.

Most tourists travel second or third class because they can stand on the steps at the open doors holding the bars. They can see the people and the scenery passing by, feel the breeze on their faces and wave at people sometimes even talk to them.

This train is made in Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai, India 🇮🇳 proud of Indian engineering. Maximum amount of train & buses in Srilanka are imported from India 🇮🇳♥️🇱🇰
One thing that I noticed was the train doors do not open. Which means nobody can dump rubbish out of the running train. In India, a majority of the passengers do that, either from open windows or from the doors. It is a horrible thing, as it pollutes the entire nation, its rivers and fields. You only have to travel by train in India to see the piles of garbage by the railway tracks. Unfortunately, we Indians tend to treat our country as a large dustbin. We desperately need a Swach Bharat 2, with the aim to educating the entire Indian population on how to keep the country clean and beautiful.

Point is Sr Lanka is very small. You can just cover it up within few days. In India it's not the case though. Sri Lanka is very beautiful though.
