I know this video will cause lots of discussions, and here are my intentions and ideas even before I have arrived. I had exchanged lots of little money to give away while I explored the Pyramids. That was the conclusion I reached after doing my research. I intended to support the people working there, including police, security, hustlers, and cleaners. You have to understand that is how tourist places work in Egypt. Tipping culture is crazy; every kindness and "Where are you from?" means give me some money. So I was ready for it. Even when you are far from the police behind the pyramids, they would whistle you aggressively to call you closer and then ask where you are from and if you want to climb the pyramid with a few stones. That basically translates into, "Give me some cash." As with everywhere else in the country, my intentions were good, to help and be nice, but many people tried to take advantage of me, especially fake security at the entrance with the police who showed me his gun as a threat. I managed to capture my whole experience. I still love Egypt and would love to be back, except for the Pyramids. I also think the historical side of being visited by 15 million people yearly should be better organized. Ancient Egyptians would be ashamed of the current state of the site. My whole life I have heard nothing but horror stories with Egypt. From sexual harassment to being harassed nonstop about money. I have no clue why anyone would go there.
I went Egypt 15 years ago with my girlfriend. We are both Asians. We rode a camel to the back of the pyramids, when the ride was over, the boy tending the camel refused to let us off until I tipped him. In the city, an Egyptian man grabbed my girlfriend ass, not like on top but put his hand on her crotch from behind. She was upset but we couldn’t confront him because of the crowd. We’re glad we went and we will never go back. We never recommend traveling to Egypt to anyone.

Thank you brother, you know lot of people want to visit but people scarred to visit among of like this kind people, I don't know why those people acting like this, the government should appoint people who are well educated and with good training.
Please don’t do that, Davud. By giving money to workers and police officers, it sets an expectation that other foreigners will do the same, and they might start relying on handouts. If others don't give money like you, it could lead to them following and asking for it. It’s better to support them through fair and official means.
Supunsdurarsha....are you kidding? "They might start relying on handouts"? Fact is, they make tons of money, for decades already, BECAUSE of the handouts.
Yes, absolutely agree with it. And they they expect from everyone. If they don't get it, they become aggressive. I am ok give it to the cleaners whoever doesn't expect.
Nothing changed it seems, Been to Egypt 30 years ago and hated the constant scams, hassles and the trying to drag you into stores. The land is beautiful though, but I won't ever return.
If you notice there was another police man in the middle of the video and before that one, but he refused taking money.. Everywhere there's good and evil people. By the way, the Egyptian interior ministry dismissed him from service.
I went to egypt one year ago, and it was probably the worst holiday I have ever had. The scamming culture is insane. Everybody will try to scam, you cannot trust anybody. It feels like you’re constantly surrounded by bad energies and it ruins everything. I would never go back.
I have been in this beautiful country with a great history, but I will never return. At a certain moment, my wife had to cry because of the pressure from constant harassment and scams in every city that we visited. Spending per tourist in Egypt could be ten times higher if there were no scammers. After a couple of days, we started to spend less and less money because we didn’t want to be in contact with disrespectful people. Plus, it could be 60 million or more tourists (like Mediterranean countries such as Spain, Greece, Turkey, etc.). But unfortunately this is not the case for Egypt. I told all my friends and people I know who were really interested in visiting Egypt not to go there. They didn't. It’s absolutely the number one scam country of all the countries I have visited. And believe me, I have been to countries with less wealth and lower living standards. I have been to countries where people have almost nothing, but they were the kindest and really helpful without expecting anything in return. I feel very sorry for the polite and good Egyptian people who also understand the ridiculousness of this disrespectful and dishonest situation. Greetings from Azerbaijan
@@Ramildinio spot on re: disrespectful. Its one thing to be aggressive with tourists but there is definitely an element of disrespect too. I call compete bullshit on anyone claiming “ egyptian hospitality”. By contrast , i have been to saudi and uae as well. They are much more respectful and hospitable of tourists.
I really hate when people say, "They're poor and just trying to survive." NO! I have been around the world and visited tourist sites in many, many poor nations - Tanzania, Kenya, Peru, Ecuador, Zimbabwe, Botswana, rural Mexico, Belize, etc. - and I've never seen this kind of scamming of tourists, bribery and harassment. In fact, I have been greeted with incredible kindness and generosity almost everywhere I've gone. Even the merchants at these sites who depend on tourist dollars were helpful and fair and if I said, "No thank you," they would leave me alone. (Well, in Mexico, you might need to say that twice.😃) Poverty is no excuse for this kind of behavior and the Egyptian government needs to do something about it.
Nothing changed since my first and only visit to Egypt in 1982. I took a taxi to the Pyramids, and once arrived, a dirty police car drove up. Two equally dirty cops got out, approached me and spoke in Arabic. I asked my taxi driver what they are saying, and he simply said "they are asking for money". I gave them a few pounds, and they left, not even saying thank you.
After watching this video and how Egyptians hustle money from tourists, I feel Egypt is not a safe destinations anymore and I do not wanted to go there to see Pyramid.
I would never go there either. Because I would not feel safe because of those greedy people there. But thanks to david we can see what it is like there.
Yeah the amount of scams & harassments is insane man! I'm myself Egyptian but was born & raised in another country so when i visited Egypt for the first time a couple of months ago i got scammed & harassed so many times just for not being able to speak good Arabic!! I really got disappointed in my own country
As an Egyptian I'm glad to see videos exposing scammers around the Pyramids gaining attention online. i hope it discourages people from visiting Egypt maybe this will push the government to take action aginist these shiity scammers and protect this incredible historical site from such practices.
Agreed. They’ve been trying to change things, but its not enough. They need to do some radical changes to the places surrounding the pyramids, and close that entrance, and need to stop letting anyone in with their horses/camels and stuff, and more security around the pyramids.
I couldn't cope with that hassle. I've seen and heard about many tourists bothered by Egyptians wanting money. Dreadful experience, good job you went there, so I don't have to! Thanks.

Egyptian tourism ministry should take action against this kind of scams in whole Egypt. More people's want to visit Egypt but due to more scam specially with tourist nobody wants to visit.....
That policeman’s actions are utterly disgraceful. As a guardian meant to shield visitors from scammers, robbers, and hustlers. He ironically “robbed” Davud, who had trusted him with money. All these behaviors are blight on Egypt’s economy. Eventually makes Egypt poorer. I fervently hope this video goes viral, compelling the Egyptian tourism ministry to address this grave issue.
Egypt is the best country in the world in terms of antiquities and its people are the kindest people you will ever meet in your life. It has all types of tourism, whether antiquities tourism, beaches, diving, desert tourism, or nature reserves. What appeared in this video is sad to me as an Egyptian and a failure by the government and security, but tourist places attract fraudsters and the worst people. If I were the Minister of Tourism, I would create an electronic application in tourist places to book a tour guide and a horse or camel or transportation at a fixed price. There would be an evaluation for each individual. If he was not up to the responsibility, he would be evaluated negatively and excluded. This is my dream for my country, the great Egypt.

Unfortunately, Egypt can be challenging for some travellers due to the presence of scammers, which can detract from the overall experience. These issues can leave tourists feeling vulnerable and disillusioned, making it difficult to fully appreciate the country's rich history and beauty. While Egypt offers incredible cultural and historical treasures, a lack of effective regulation in many areas can give the impression of lawlessness, which is an important concern that needs to be addressed.
I have been at the pyramids 2 times - in 2016 and in 2023. Asking for money starts right at the entrance gate. The so called security people there always find something that is not ok with your camera equipment and tell you that you need additional permission but problem can always be fixed with a tip. They pretend that they are doing you a favor. Even after you enter the complex everybody is trying to convince you that you absolutely need to pay for a guide, camel or horse ride and you can't just walk alone which obviously isn't true. I have accepted that this is what it is and can not be changed. Having small bills with egyptian pounds and hiding well your foreign currency helps to allow you to loose less money. One well known scam is someone to allow you to ride a camel for free and ask you to give your phone to take a picture of you. After that they do not allow you to get off the camel and do not give you back your phone unless you pay hefty price. Just be careful, do not give your property to anybody and do not show that you have a lot of money and you will be ok. After all the pyramids are something that i think everybody should try to see.
Ive seen a few Vlogs of people travel to the Pyramids and around Cairo, as well as a well known RUclips channel that was using professional camera, sound, presenter and producer having to jump through many hoops to enter Egypt with their camera equipment and obtain written approvals. All the vlogs and that Channel with a pro crew had terrible experiences with the "Officials" bullying them, harrassing them, threatening and wanting money. These experience have made me not want to ever go to see the Pyramids now, maybe one day in my life I will be able to afford to do that trip, but I dont think I could handle such an experience of people acting so badly to tourists. Your treatment at the entry just made me more sure that I won't do the trip there, unless a professional system is put in place there, to ensure Tourists are not treated like you were at the start. I have lived in many poor countries too and this site seems one of the worse in the world for tourists. Thanks for sharing your experience.
BTW, Sudan has around 220 pyramids, while Egypt has 118, The majority of Sudan's pyramids are located in the ancient city of Meroë, which is in the Nile Valley, The pyramids in Sudan are a testament to the power and ingenuity of the Kingdom of Kush, an ancient civilization that thrived two thousand years ago.

Hi davud love you from egypt, I understand your experience with the pyramids, and I want to explain that Egypt is going through its worst economic crisis. Many people are just trying to survive, which can lead to behaviors that harm tourism. However, the issue is with the government’s lack of proper management and organization, not the people. If things don’t improve, it could damage Egypt’s image and future tourism. I’ve watched all your Egypt videos, and I just want to say that what you’ve seen is only a small part of what Egypt has to offer. There’s so much more to discover, with many beautiful and amazing places beyond the pyramids.
This is a bad example for the police. This is a shame for him to take any money from the tourist This is a bad example for us as Egyptians, but not all people are like this policeman I feel sorry in my name and in the name of all Egyptians I am so sorry dor you The Egyptian government should prosecute such people who work to protect tourists, not to take money from tourists for nothing This is not his right

Great video and insight. The Egyptian government needs to watch some of these videos and really think about how they handle tourism. I couldn't imagine spending money to travel to Egypt to see these Pyramids only to get constantly harassed by local scammers for more money. It looks as if those horses are mistreated. They are in the sun constantly & pulling on concrete. Not once have I seen them feed or give them water. In addition to that the horse by the pyramid had a huge abscess on his leg. You are very patient and kind. I would love to visit Egypt but after seeing the harassment no way‼️
Stop with the ignorance the horses are not mistreated and are well fed and hydrated from many local stables around the pyramids by the local Egyptians and what you see is the tourist shift of horses which they seem that they are not treated but they are through many rests given to horses and also there is no harassment by the Egyptian locals and those shown in the media are lower Class hustlers which they are mostly around the pyramids and not followed by the tourist industry those hustlers are even avoided by the Egyptians and the tourists should no go for any random hustlers so stop generalizing based on those hustlers and you are welcome in Egypt at any time ❤
Davud, thank you for an enlightening video. If you had seen so many videos on the pyramids before you came, why did you not expect the hassle you experienced at the gate ? Were you so naïve to think you would be treated any differently ?
I spent a month in Egypt last yea and it is frustrating with these type of people but once you see those types you need to learn to not engage with them at all and they leave you alone. La shukran, Khalas and keep walking, don't even look at them that's it. Then you have more fun, there is lots of other nice people in Egypt.
Ten years ago, I visited Egypt. I had such bad experiences with the Taxi Driver and the very guide (from a reputed Egyptian Tour operator) that my Canadian Travel Agent had arranged for us. They all tried to extort money at every opportunity. I am sorry, but Egypt is otherwise a good country with nice people. The tourism department should monitor this to improve its reputation. I would like to visit the Pyramids and the Nile Cruise --- but sadly for these experiences....
What happens at the pyramids doesn’t only target tourists-it happens to us Egyptians as well. We’re often charged the same amounts by people with horses, camels, or even those outside the pyramids who try to make you pay them directly instead of purchasing tickets at the official counters. What’s shocking, though, is that a police Assistant accepted money. I expected him to refuse and return it, saying that he’s paid to do his job, but unfortunately, he not only took the money but asked for more. Rest assured, this officer will lose his position because what he did is absolutely illegal and unacceptable.
Wow, scammed at the entrance. Before entering, we almost got scammed by people selling a package to see pyramids with camels. Laughed my way out the building when they wanted 350$ usd per person(knew ticket was less than 50$). Then once inside the grounds, Friend got scammed by person that takes pictures of you with the pyramids. After that happened, a cop asked if we were okay and also tried to scam us. The awe of the site still overrides all these scamming events though, but would not go back. Would recommend to visit at least once though!
I had such a different experience going with an Egyptian guide from a reputable tour company. He kept us away from scammers and everyone we interacted with was pleasant. I highly recommend going to the big tourist attractions with a guide if you have never been and are planning your first trip to Egypt.
The issue in Egypt lies in the disparity between low wages and the high cost of living, forcing many to struggle just to survive-whether they work at the airport, in the police force, or as tour guides. Underpayment is a widespread problem, and people often resort to any available opportunity to make ends meet. To address this, the government needs to reevaluate the salaries provided to security personnel and police officers, while also investing in extensive education and training on how to interact with tourists. Although this solution would take time, it is essential for creating meaningful change.

In the city, an Egyptian man grabbed my girlfriend ass, not like on top but put his hand on her crotch from behind. She was upset but we couldn’t confront him because of the crowd.
We’re glad we went and we will never go back. We never recommend traveling to Egypt to anyone.

If others don't give money like you, it could lead to them following and asking for it. It’s better to support them through fair and official means.

I went to egypt one year ago, and it was probably the worst holiday I have ever had. The scamming culture is insane. Everybody will try to scam, you cannot trust anybody. It feels like you’re constantly surrounded by bad energies and it ruins everything. I would never go back.
Thanks for the warning.

What appeared in this video is sad to me as an Egyptian and a failure by the government and security, but tourist places attract fraudsters and the worst people. I’m 77 years old , have heard about pyramids all my life , no chance of ever getting to touch them , so thank you for taking me to see them bro.

It's called mismanagement and corruption.
This is not an isolated incident from I gathered from different bloggers in general they have a bad impression of Egypt because of systemic corruption.
