I just came back from a trip to Greece and had meatballs and they were SO GOOD that I decided I need to make them at home! Ty for sharing the recipe! What a beautiful country and amazing food!
Greek food is so underrated. You hear about Italian and French food all the time, but before discovering a great Greek restaurant a while ago I couldn't name anything other than tzatziki and gyros. Very interesting recipe, I'll be trying it on the weekend.
You are so right, Greek food is very underrated, and shouldn't be, its just as good as other cuisines of the work and better than some. Remember if you see Greeks frequenting a Greek restaurant, you know the food is good, same with Italian and any other cuisine. Greek cooking isn't complicated and doesn't take hours to prepare, obviously it depends on how many you cook for, but its worth sourcing those authentic recipes, and Akis is sharing his......enjoy!
I'm from the UK and recently visited Greece for the first time (Crete) I've always wanted to visit growing up (I'm 32) I always heard how lovely all Greeks are and I knew the food was amazing and OMG! its all true I loved how laid back everything is nothing is too difficult and will get sorted Its made me think strongly about moving :') I Tried this while there and am going to be making it today cant wait, take me back.
We just came from Greece for this year vacation. I suggested this for my 10 years old picky youngest to order for his dinner since it's meatballs. It's something he is familiar with. I'm glad he ordered it coz he finished his meal. All the days, he ate bad, ordering grilled goods and fast foods. I tasted it too and it was so delicious. Thank you for this video. I will make this and be part of our menu.
I watched this several times, went to the store and bought everything I needed, (except they didn't have mint) and made this recipe! It is so amazingly good I served the soutzoukakias on rice.
Your studio/kitchen is probably one of my favorite setups on youtube. Gives me a great visual of what I would want mine to look like. Great Recipe as Always.
This truly is the best recipe!! I made it for dinner last night. It took me a long time to make cause I doubled the whole recipe. It was an absolute hit and no matter how long it took, it was worth it. I also did a roast vegetable dish with similar flavours and added kalamata olives. It was fantastic!!! Your recipes are amazing
I had these only once in college!!!!! I am remembering Kalamata olives in the sauce! Am I dreaming? I am so excited to prepare this!!!!!!!! I NEVER realized such complex flavor could come from so simple ingredients! It must be the Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil!!!!!
i'm going for a Greek week. i start with your Moussaka (always pronounced that wrong ). day 2 chicken souflaki and Greek pita's. Day 3 chicken gyros and tzatziki. day 4 this soutzoukakia and the rest i don't know yet. Thank you for all the recipi's. it's great!! Greetings from Holland
If you do not want to deep fry them because you will waste a bottle of oil you can put a few cm of oil and just turn them when they are ready from one side if you want it to be lite you can bake them it will still be a very tasty food
WOW I have never seen so much bread in a meatball recipe before, BUT, ahh this is why my meatballs are not so soft and juicy, I NEED more bread in my recipe - well wonderful, I will be making them like this from now on.....woohooooooo mixy mix lol thank you Akis xx
I ate lots of meatballs in Greece but one is the most delicious is in Alexandroupoli. A great family restaurant, they make great balkan style but with a great greek touch of meatballs. We ate great and drinked lots of Alfa beers :)) Also we discussed in a very funny way, Greek vs Turkish football and basketball success :)
Kathy VP all Greek dishes are quite simple and have good flavor. I guess Akis has stuck to this style of cooking staying true to his culture even though he studied culinary school in London
I watched and made the vegetarian version of this that you posted a while back and it was absolutely delicious. I really appreciate your work in creating simple yet delicious recipes. Keep up the great work, love this channel!
I will check out your rice recipe so I can use it with these wonderful looking meatballs. Also, I will try them with pasta. Thank you for another great presentation.
Made this tonight worked out great, I just added Onion to the meatballs for this reason. Alexander did not invade most of the middle east for power, in fact he was searching for the his chef who failed to put Onions in his Meatballs. Finally after attempting to invade India, Alexander found the chef and stopped the invasions. But before Alexander could put the chef to death, the chef poisoned Alexander. This whole tragedy could have been avoided if only the chef had put onions in the meatballs. Anyways Thank You
Lane Romel haha actually in this recipe Greeks normally put onions in as well not sure why Akis didn’t BUT we don’t put them in raw, we cook the onions first and then add them. I guess Akis didn’t do it because he did it for the sauce! Maybe he didn’t want to do it twice lol
Great looking recipe. I see you use an egg to bind the meat mixture. Other recipes use oil and put meat mixture in fridge instead(?). I hate deep frying because of the oil . I intend to pan fry with 1/2 inch oil and flip them to avoid disposing so much oil. Would cooking the meatballs for thirty minutes( to make sure they are cooked) adversely affect the recipe?
Loving this recipe. Missing Greece so much but your videos are putting me right back there. What olive oil do you use and do use different oil for cooking to dressing? Doing Greek night dish share with my Mum during lock down...... def going to use your Soutzoukakia recipe.
He is putting extra because he adds the tomato sauce later. You usually add sugar when you add tomato paste and sauce because they are a bit acidic this time of the year. If you make this recipe at summer you won't add the extra sugar. You will add it only to help the onions caramelize so you cut it in half
I'm from NORTH CAROLINA,, OUR GREEK FESTIVAL IS COMING UP 05/17/2024 TIL 05/19.... I Will be getting this, GREEK MOUSSAKA, CHICKEN RIGATONI TO ALL OTHER THINGS..😋😋
Another great recipe! Now after Pascha,I’m back to eating meat! Mouthwatering meatballs. I need to know what knife you use and where can I get that little food processor? It’s amazing. Almost as as amazing as you. 😘
Looks wonderful!! But I have to ask.. is there an acceptable substitute for the mint? 😬. I just can’t with the mint. Childhood trauma …it’s a long story. Don’t ask!
Saki mou you have the best recipes brother and I follow them like a disciple. But the gloves is too much "Athens airport" brother. :D I can't remember any time my mother or my aunts used gloves to prepare food.
Greek food needs more recognition, it's so underated. ❤
Love and respect from Serbia! 🇷🇸❤️🇬🇷
Best I had was at the railroad station in Belgrade on my way to Thessaloniki. Beer and salt.

akis you are everything in one a complete package 💖💖💖
Thank you Akis for all these videos!
These are so good, he is actually underselling them.
Learning Greek language and cooking. 💥 Wonderful recipe
Wow Greek food is very diverse so many spices. Do u think you can bake the meatballs instead of frying ?
Yes, of course, you can. They will be lighter, but definitely not as tasty! If you want the real, authentic texture, fry them.
If you do not want to deep fry them because you will waste a bottle of oil you can put a few cm of oil and just turn them when they are ready from one side if you want it to be lite you can bake them it will still be a very tasty food
Just made this recipe. It is delicious 💗. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

Soutzoukakia is one of my food fetishes.
Looks wonderful!! But I have to ask.. is there an acceptable substitute for the mint? 😬. I just can’t with the mint. Childhood trauma …it’s a long story. Don’t ask!
Ok I won't ask. You can omit it or you can use basil.
What does uso to meatballs?
Surprised you didn't use oregano but looks great
