    My husband is Egyptian, I am Mexican and he is always asking me if I know how to make a meatball white soup that he ate in Greece and I was very confused, but thanks I will make it soon. In Mexico we also add rice to meatballs.

    I just made this for dinner tonight. Wow! I should be Greek! Sooo good. Simple clean ingredients. I loved it.i By the time you cut up the meatballs with your spoon and get some broth on there too..you end up slurping the broth through the meatball which is perfect coz it has a tiny bit of arborio rice in it..I used my homemade chicken bone broth that had hints of lemon in it. What a winner of a dish. 3 meatballs & broth, I'm full. I forgot about the feta & bread. Oh well, next time. 👌😋💛

    Akis, I love to watch you cook and to listen to you speak English with your Greek accent! 😄 I grew up (in the US) with Greek grandparents and many other Greek relatives and listening to you brings so many memories. You remind me so much of my cousin Stathis, (although he doesn't cook 😂.) I remember Yiayia used to make this dish and I loved it. She's been gone a very long time, 50 years, but watching you make this I can almost taste it from memory!

    In Russia we have a pretty common dish called “yozhiki” (the hedgehogs) - it’s almost the same but without lemon and this sauce. We cook it the same way and serve without water (but my Grandma has used to serve it with a little bit of water). Delicious one!

    • @murzik191
      @murzik191 2 года назад +1

      It is not the same. I have always hated the yozhikis, and i absolutely love the Greek meatballs. The Russian ones have too plain taste. If you want to find some similarity in the ex-USSR cuisine, this will be the Azerbaijani Kufta soup with the meatballs. But of course, the avgolemono sauce is something supertasty and uncomparable.

    • @terro3842
      @terro3842 Год назад

      @@murzik191 Azeri Kufta has completely different flavor profile. Imo too heavy, gamey and greasy in comparison to this recipe where mint and lemon reign supreme.

    The word "yuvarlama" comes from "rounding" in Turkish. Turks' "Yuvarlama" soup is much different. The meatballs are much smaller, and there are pieces of meat and chickpeas in the soup, and they marinate them with yoghurt. They also use lamb as meat. Ottoman food culture is very influential especially in the Balkans and Anatolia. For example, Arabic food is quite different, but Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian and Bosnian dishes are very similar to each other. It is a simple and delicious soup. 👍

Many of the countries in the Balkan region share similar dishes and This seems to be one of them, didn’t know until watching this video.

      It is originated in the Ottoman Empire, and it is originally called "yuvarlama" or "sulu köfte" (yuvarlak means round in turkish) so greece peoples lived 500 years with turks(also Balkan countries) and they learnt that from turks and gave another name(they did this to other foods too, so you can see turk-greece cuisine is almost the same.), changed the food a little bit(we are doing that smaller and more) but at finally, it is normal.I hope you understand me 😉have a nice day✌
