Pasticcio (AKA Pastichio - Παστίτσιο in Greek) is maybe the most favorite dish in Greece, especially among children, teenagers and pasta lovers of all ages. Akis has strayed a little bit from the standard recipe 'enhancing' the pasta with feta cheese, but that's actually pretty clever, since I've always thought the pasta layer to be a little 'flat' flavorwise. Of course, feta cheese has a salty, sort of tangy flavor, which might not be well liked by everybody, but one might well use some other, sweeter and smoother type of cheese (Gruyère or even Parmesan).

Persians, Greeks and Italians are fundamentally, culturally, historically and emotionally for ever intertwined and connected. We are branches of the same tree. Cousins. Siblings.

It's actually a very easy recipe but requires ample time to perfect it - will be attempting this on a lazy Sunday!

@@paulocastrogarrido3499 do you have anything similar (or native pasta dishes in general) in Portugal?

    • @paulocastrogarrido3499

@@giannisb2721 we have many baked dishes, but nothing typically Portuguese with pasta. Our most famous tray treat is "bacalhau com natas" (codfish with cream), not fresh cod, and with meat we have "arroz de pato" (rice with pulled duck). Both very nice.

@@paulocastrogarrido3499 In Greece we have many pasta dishes, possibly thanks to venetians and Genovese who occupied and colonized most of the country in many parts of history, as well as naval communications between the two countries. if you google "hilopites", "Krytharaki", "makarounes" or "Gogkes" you will see ingredients and dishes very similar to italian pasta

delightful, I can't wait to make it- i am gluten intolerant so I'll have to create your recipe with gluten free ingredients....but I am determined and this looks so amazing , thank you for your fun, fast, fabulous videos for Greek Recipes. I was recently in Alaska with my sisters and we attended a Greek Festival, my favorite part was touring the church, beautiful lifesize paintins of saints all over every wall. So I always think of this when watching and listening to your videos.
