Andy is the guitarist. Sadly, it was revealed at the RRHOF induction ceremony a couple of years ago that Andy has stage 4 prostate cancer.
Loved this whole album. Murderess would be a good one to do next. Think you’ll like the horn parts and the bass is fantastic as usual. And guitarist Andy Taylor is criminally underrated
I remember being so gutted when Duran Duran split, but Power Station was a necessary stretching of completely different styles that were being stifled in DD. Power Station was great and I still have my LP. This was such an incredible release and I was then heartbroken to see Palmer go back to solo albums because I greedily wanted more of this. I also love that the girl in the video is Caroline (Tula) Cossey.
One of their finest songs is called notoriety and it seems to get overlooked. God bless you Jay and Amber. With Respect always Brant Heavner.❤️❤️❤️♦️♦️👋👋👋
I absolutely love this by The Power Station. Andy's guitar in this just rocks. It gets played regularly at the record parties I attend. Let's get it on people. Cheers, Paul.🤪📀🎶❤️
For anyone who are familiar with the movie Commando starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the end credits a song preformed by Power Station was being played and it was called "We Fight For Love" and immediately after hearing it I fell in love with the song. The song does have that typical Power Station vibe to it.
It was Jay’s face that was the best part of the reaction for me. Amber is beautiful as always and she was jamming too but this just reminded me of high school
Drummer Tony Thompson was in the 70s band Chic and the producer of The Power Station was Bernard Edwards he was the bassist of Chic one of Duran Duran influences and on Robert Palmers Riptide album Andy Taylor played lead guitar Tony played drums n I think Bernard played on it too
What was uncommon in 1984/85 was that all parts were recorded in different countries. The band never even played in the same same room. They passed the tapes around and each member recorded their parts. The album was produced and mixed by Chic member Bernard Edwards (R.I.P.).
That was his trademark. Tony Thompson was self taught-no lessons. He learned drums listening to Led Zeppelin records. His drums are on the Bowie "Let's Dance," and the Madonna "Like A Virgin" album sessions. He was selected by Plant & Page for the drums at their LIVE AID concert in Philadelphia. My girlfriend and I worked backstage.
I love that this song is driven by the murderous sound of Chic drummer Tony Thompson. Andy and John Taylor kept the molten rhythm flowing to let Robert Palmer bring home the vocals. Never cared much for the intro to this song, but once it gets going, forget about it. And we really need you guys to bring in Robert Palmer's great hit, DOCTOR, DOCTOR (BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU). It's made for your ears, feet, and hips to dance to.
A BANGER of a cover! This is a Supergroup with John Taylor (bass) & Andy Taylor (guitar) from Duran Duran, Robert Palmer, and the one and only - Chic Drummer Tony Thompson. The band's name came from the recording studio where they created this music THE POWER STATION. A very well known studio used by so many great artists to produce their music. This band was formed by John & Andy who at the time were still a part of Duran Duran but the band had taken a break, some thought they may split up. John & Andy wanted to dive into a harder edge so they formed this band. Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor formed an amazing band called ARCADIA - "Election Day", "Goodbye is Forever". The band did end up getting back together but without guitarist Andy Taylor who wanted to make solo efforts and Roger Taylor (drums) who had grown tired of the craziness the band was in the middle of. Duran Duran went back with just Simon, Nick and John, eventually making the incredible album NOTORIOUS. The POWER STATION, as a band, made an incredible album though - "Harvest For The World", "Murderess" and "Communication" among other songs on this album. They made two albums. LIVING IN FEAR in in the 90's but it didn't have the success that this album did. Unfortunately, Robert Palmer passed away in 2003 so another album was never possible. Check out ARCADIA. A much different sounding album than this but critically acclaimed.
Power Station were awesome 80's band, and what a great cover! I also really liked their cover of Harvest For the World, originally of the Isley Brothers!
Summer of '85 when this came out...I was 14. My neighbor had this on vinyl, I had a P-Bass copy but no amp. I practiced the bass line unamped for about 3 hours in his garage playing along to the record. His mother left and we plugged it in and I had the bass line down to a gnat's ass. I'm 53 now and it is still one of the greatest memories of my life.
John Taylor, hands down my favorite Bass guitarist. He and Andy Taylor(lead guitar) made Duran Duran sound so funky and forward at the same time. Shredding screaming guitars and Spreading the funky bass.
Oh, Boy….i saw them in concert when they first came on the scene….i loved John Taylor from Duran Duran! 😃🥰 This was one of two of my favorite songs by Power Station!
Amber, you’re right that this is from the late 80s. A friend of mine used to play backup keyboards for Robert Palmer on tour and told me he was the kindest musician he ever worked with (among many big names). I hope you’ll play Palmer’s first US hit Every Kinda People for some true blue-eyed soul. It’s beautiful!

Yay! Glad you did this one, excellent! Y'all rock!
Man, the 80's were great for music.
Dude is whipping the drums on this classic
Love Robert Palmer’s voice. Tony Thompson killed it on the drums. This whole album is worth a listen.
One of their finest songs is called notoriety and it seems to get overlooked. God bless you Jay and Amber. With Respect always Brant Heavner.❤️❤️❤️♦️♦️👋👋👋
That bass guitar is being played by John Taylor from Duran Duran. He's incredibly talented in the bass!! ❤
Tony's drums really rock this track out ❤❤❤
Until today I never realized Robert Palmer and Tony Thompson died within 2 months of each other in 2003.
Best concert I ever went to; Robert Palmer. A fantastic artist. RIP, died too young.
I really loved The Power Station, specially for Mr. Robert Palmer (RIP) and the Duran Duran guys. Extraordinary music. Thanks!!
Rob Squad Reactions, Your videos are fantastic! I just had to subscribe!
One of my favorite albums of the 80’s! Played it to death.
I know that Jay will love the instruments and production of this 80's banger.
Man, Tony Thompson's kit sounds like a machine gun!
So Big 80's!! Love both versions. They both have their pleasures.
Power Station also had "Some Like It Hot" 😉👍
It was Jay’s face that was the best part of the reaction for me. Amber is beautiful as always and she was jamming too but this just reminded me of high school
Drummer Tony Thompson was in the 70s band Chic and the producer of The Power Station was Bernard Edwards he was the bassist of Chic one of Duran Duran influences and on Robert Palmers Riptide album Andy Taylor played lead guitar Tony played drums n I think Bernard played on it too
Gotta love that 80's "gated reverb" drum sound.
What was uncommon in 1984/85 was that all parts were recorded in different countries. The band never even played in the same same room. They passed the tapes around and each member recorded their parts. The album was produced and mixed by Chic member Bernard Edwards (R.I.P.).
Tony Thompson hitting the drums like he’s mad at them!!
Such A Baddass Colab Of Talent Here.Damm !!! What A Smokin Tune..
Now do the other half of Duran Duran in Arcadia! That was a fantastic album!
This has got Palmer's swagger all over it.
Now this is good👍 Greet Tony Thompson pounding. Two Taylor’s and Robert Palmer. Such a lineup.
John Taylor, hands down my favorite Bass guitarist. He and Andy Taylor(lead guitar) made Duran Duran sound so funky and forward at the same time. Shredding screaming guitars and Spreading the funky bass.
Yes!! You finally watched it!!
Oh, Boy….i saw them in concert when they first came on the scene….i loved John Taylor from Duran Duran! 😃🥰
This was one of two of my favorite songs by Power Station!
Mid 80s. Album came out in 85.
I'm so happy you did this one! It rocks! Talent overload.
The Bass God..John Taylor! And Andy Taylor on Lead Guitar!!
