Amazing video. All clear. My Honda 07 Lx It makes a short circuit when removing and installing the air conditioning fuse, and it seems that the fans are going to turn on and it turns off, the compressor also does not turn on, I already checked the relays and if they work, also the internal control unit.
Thanks for making the video! Was hoping it would be the easy relay fix, but I'm now thinking it's the clutch because I've seen others mention the thing about heat causing it to stop.
Danny help me out. My AC works and the clutch engages and disengages like its supposed to for 10 minutes then it just quits and dont engage again. Does this sound like low freon? I tried recharging it with freon a while back and i tried the fuse swap nothing. Everything else looks fine like u mentioned but i don't know what to do. Should i try to recharge my ac again maybe i didn't do it right??
I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then
Hi Danny thank you. You are a teacher. I changed the relay because the AC was intermittent in my civic 2008 then the odometer cannot be modified and also the AC continue intermittent. Advice please
Hi Danny, thanks for the informative videos. I did the test on the head unit on my 2009 Honda Civic and the light was flashing 4 quick flashes repeatedly. What does that indicate? My ac doesn’t seem as cold as it should be. Thanks John
Danny, is there any danger in adding Freon if Freon is not the issue? I suspect that is the issue with mine, but I do not have a thermo to test the before and after. Is there any danger in adding some Freon and then checking if the AC blows cold after? Thanks!
Yes, if you overfill the system it will cause more problems for you. If you're able to,Buy a gauge to test it. Better to be safe than sorry. Ac's are such a blessing and for me A complete necessity. I no longer have a thyroid soo it's no beuno not having AC right now. No one can pin point wtf is wrong with mine so I'm trying to do it myself lol. Ohh ohh get a gauge that shows you BOTH the high and low side! I hope you get it figured out❤
So I have a little bit of an odd issue. When I bought the car the ac would not blow as cold at an idle but would blow very cold while driving. Now it consistently blows much warmer regardless driving or not. The clutch on the compressor engages. Both fans kick on. And the dummy gauge reads that it has refrigerant in the system. I’m thinking either blend door actuator or possible the expansion valve. I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.
Hey Danny, what if your hvac system only puts air out on the dash and not out defrost or floor, Regardless of which zone is selected? Just noticed my 2010 civic has this when trying to defrost I selected defrost and air continues coming from dashboard vents
My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!
There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness. The air gap recommended is 0.35mm to 0.65mm (about .014" to .024"). Removed 1 or 2 that give a recommended air gap between the clutch plate and pulley.
not sure if you experience this situation I am currently having on my civic aircon. After driving a while longer with AC on turned at the lowest temperature, the ac starts blowing hot air, it literally just heats up instead of just not blowing cold air. with AC on putting it to low temperature cant defog, now I can only use high temperature to defog. It does has compressor clutch engaging all but blow wrong temperature. what component do you think it could go wrong? The ac blows normal cold air varies from different temperature I set, most of the time while the car has been driven like the first 15-20mins after a certain time, that symptom starts.
I think this video needs to add changing out the fuse and relay. That fixed my problem because I saw that the clutch was not engaging when I turned on the A/C. There's no problem with the fan or the system holding pressure.
Hi danny, I have a 2008 civic lx. The AC will work when at night time, AC will work for the first 5-10 mins of driving at the hot day then it will start not blowing cold air. What can be the problems there and I have recharge the AC.
Correct me if I’m wrong but when filling the low pressure side are you not supposed to keep the can upright and 45 degrees max to keep liquid from going into the low side? Can’t compress liquid, right?
Hey Danny. I also have a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have a digital thermostat temp gauge. When holding down the recirculate and rear defogger for a few seconds my display spelled out AC. My control head does is not change the direction of the air and it’s also hot air and not blowing cold. Any ideas?
Question: 07 Civic EX. A/C wasn't charged when I bought it. I was told it just needed freon. Bought a charge kit from Walmart. Put it on the low pressure side to change it. It was empty. Turned everything on high/max, pulled the trigger, clutch activated but the gauge shot to the red/full/danger zone within 3 secs. I know it's not full. What do you think?
Danny - I didn't get any codes from the control panel at 2:09 in the video. At 2:26 in this video, the 2nd mode/button from the left on the control panel is NOT working properly. This is the button where there is an arrow pointing to the face and an arrow pointing down to the floor. The light comes on OK, but the air is ONLY coming on at the bottom toward the floor, NOT at the top toward the face. I did notice that if I select the 1st button, with the arrow to the face, and the 3rd button with arrow pointing to the floor separately they both work. What could be the issue?
Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out
Very high quality made video, thank you so much! I’m curious: I believe our ‘09 Civic needs a new compressor clutch. If i’m not mistaken, the compressor clutch SHOULD be spinning once A/C is activated, correct? Ours is not activated with A/C on and is blowing very warm air. It will only work for around 10 minutes at the start of everyday - consistently. Curious to hear yours or anyone’s thoughts.
The ac is activated when the switch is turned on and condition are met, low Freon will cause the clutch not to activate also, check out this video also ruclips.net/video/i94Bv8KaVzA/видео.htmlsi=T2czxY_4fbN0ZBe9
What are your thoughts on hotwiring a switch to my dashboard in order to get my ac running. It’s an old car, ‘96. The ac works, I just can’t get the compressor to engage no matter how many parts I replace. No one can figure it out. I’ve heard of people doing this. I understand that this could kill the compressor, but if I cycle the switch on and off, maybe I could get by. What do you think? Thank you!
I would not do a switch, I would spend more time to diagnose the problem, I don't know what diagnostics you have done, but there is a Thermal protecter in that circuit, should be somewhere left front corner of the engine compartment, two red wires going to it. check that
@@dannysdiygarage. Thank you for your timely response. You give good advice. I was blessed to find a video about my same vehicle with the very same problem. It turned out to be a burned AC control panel. I removed mine today and immediately knew by the smell that I have a bad unit. It was the same odor that I had detected just minutes before it stopped working. I’m getting one cheap tomorrow and it swaps out extremely easily. If by some strange circumstance anyone owns a 1996 Nissan Quest/mercury Villager, and has tried everything without success, just know that the head unit is trouble prone and hard to diagnose because it still functions in every way except for the AC on button which is responsible for engaging the clutch. However, the light illuminates when depressed which makes one believe that the compressor is getting a call to engage but not so. Hopefully this helps someone.
Hi Danny, great video and wanted to ask for help. The thing that has me stumped is when moving the temp. nob, the blend door doesn't move but the temp. still changes fine. I'm having an issue when I'm driving more than 30 min, air stops coming out of my vents but I can still hear the blower motor and it sounds blocked. Blend door moves fine when switching through modes. And no codes from control
I need more information to make a educated guess, but here is something that comes to mind, evaporator can freeze if they get to cold, which won’t allow air to pass through, so if airflow pass with the ac in the off mode this could be the cause, again just a guess with the information given,
Gets to cold usually caused by expansion valve or improper Freon level, sometimes you can keep max air off, and it will not freeze I have a video replacing the expansion valve
@@dannysdiygarage I have found out that my ac compressor comes on after 5 min of the car on, Then doesn't turn off despite turning off the ac and the fan on the climate control panel. I believe that is why my evaporator is freezing up.The relay for the ac clutch is fine. Would you happen to know what can cause the ac compressor clutch to stay engaged like that? Also the climate control panel shows no messages when doing the diagnostic check. I'm stumped
@@anthonyrojas9411 Most AC's have a thermistor/thermostat sensor/bulb attached to or near the downstream side of the evaporator. It's there to stop the evap from freezing up. Did you resolve the issue?

My radiator fan works but condenser fan won’t turn on, and my compressor turns on when I hit it with a screw driver, does that mean I should adjust the shim?
possibly, however I would also tap the condenser fan motor to see if it starts working, I show this in my window motor video, or even starter video, its a great way to test motors of any kind, link ruclips.net/video/8B0d4jfwGYk/видео.html
Hey so I have a 2010 Lx, mine blows very cold for about 10 minutes then becomes hot, I ran the diagnostic and it blinked 4 times as I’ve also been having trouble with the buttons, could that be the reason my ac is blowing warm also or do I have other issues?
Love your videos. I have a 2008 Honda Civic LX that I bought new. Unfortunately the AC cuts out when the car gets too hot. I've traced it to the clutch not engaging when the engine gets hot during the hottest time of the day in summer after the car has been driven for a few minutes. AC works fine every other time and season, which as you can imagine is extremely frustrating. How would I go about fixing the clutch engagement to engage when I need it most, ie when it is hottest?
i fixed mine by removing access panel in plastic shroud on passenger side with wheel off then removing clutch center bolt with an impact wrench so clutch does not spin then remover one thin shim and clean back of clutch plate put it back on and tighten it back up there is videos on you tube of people doing this it worked perfect for me we did it years ago and it has worked since then.
@@dannysdiygarage I did check the relay, fuses and freon pressure. AC works great except when the engine gets too hot, then the clutch disengages. Will attempt Gregs suggestion once the warm weather returns. Thanks to you both for your help.
Hello Sir, When i turn on the switch the two buttons has to be pushed before turning on.. and after i turn the key on the first light goes off and AC light never turned on (what’s the problem here) ??? Please suggest
Hi, I have a 2010 Civic. The AC blows cold air for the first 10-15 minutes of the day, but then it cuts out only blowing hot fan air. The car will need to cool down for a few hours or perhaps overnight before it will blow cold air again in the morning. The hotter the ambient temperature, the shorter the AC is lived. 60-70 F will last 30 minutes before cutout. 95F maybe only 5-10 minutes before cutout. Does this sound like the compressor clutch wearing out? If so, should I just buy a new compressor? Thanks!
Not yet. I can visually see the compressor clutch disengaged after the AC cuts out. And then if I tap it into place it will run for another 5 minutes. Best I can guess is there is weakness in the magnet or coil system that developed. I’m going to buy an entire new compressor and clutch assembly from Denso and have Honda install it in the next week hopefully.
Have a 2009 Honda Civic LX 4 door as well and it has the same problem. It keeps running low on Freon and I’m not sure if there’s a leak or if it’s just the expansion valve maybe. Wish I knew you because our cars are identical lol you’d help a ton
If it’s loosing Freon it has a leak, do the visual inspection, if you don’t find anything, buy a can of Freon with die and add it, then get a black light

Appreciate the response and explanation 👍🏼 sounds like it will be fixed

Amazing video. All clear. My Honda 07 Lx It makes a short circuit when removing and installing the air conditioning fuse, and it seems that the fans are going to turn on and it turns off, the compressor also does not turn on, I already checked the relays and if they work, also the internal control unit.
Thank you sir…your video was excellent and great tips to troubleshoot ac problems.
Glad to hear it, appreciate that
Thanks for making the video! Was hoping it would be the easy relay fix, but I'm now thinking it's the clutch because I've seen others mention the thing about heat causing it to stop.
You’re welcome, appreciate your feedback, thanks for that
Danny help me out.

I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then
I’ve also had that problem, years ago, thanks for sharing
Hi Danny thank you. You are a teacher. I changed the relay because the AC was intermittent in my civic 2008 then the odometer cannot be modified and also the AC continue intermittent. Advice please
THANK YOU,

Hi Danny, thanks for the informative videos. I did the test on the head unit on my 2009 Honda Civic and the light was flashing 4 quick flashes repeatedly. What does that indicate? My ac doesn’t seem as cold as it should be. Thanks John
In the description there is a list of codes that explain the flashes, check it out
Hi Danny, I see it now. The motor that redirects the airflow to the various vents . Thanks for the prompt response.👍
I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.
same issue with mine. did you you get it figured out?
Danny when I use the a/c the vent closest to the passenger window blows cold but every other blows hot air. I changed the vent actuator
DUUUUDE IS A LIFE SAVER!!! Thanks!!!
I appreciate this comment
Hey Danny, what if your hvac system only puts air out on the dash and not out defrost or floor, Regardless of which zone is selected? Just noticed my 2010 civic has this when trying to defrost
I selected defrost and air continues coming from dashboard vents
I have the same car. Ac clutch engages and freon is in the sytem but no cold air. The blend doors work fine.
Lots of possibilities, not enough Freon or expansion valve
you help me today, my relay was bad and i almost buy a new compressor 😂😂
That’s awesome, I appreciate you sharing that with me
Worked for me..thanks alot...just had to reset
Best video so far
My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!
Awesome, great information, I appreciate you sharing this👍🏼
There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness.
Great addition, thanks for adding this information
How did you know it was the expansion valve? Is that the only thing to check after everything that came before?
Expansion valve meters the Freon and it was the most logical solution and it worked
The can has special instructions on this, follow the instructions on the can, but you are correct unless the can says different
Thank you for the video I have CRV 2007 the AC is not cooling enough I add some frion but still the same could you please help me thank you
What do you think?
many reasons, I could not begin to even guess unless you installed a set of gauges and had reading of both high and low side, sorry
Did you pull system into a vacuum 1st?
Amazing video AC working perfect now thank you.

My clutch is engaging, but AC not cooling like before. Can it be a relay issue or need more r134?
Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out
Grate video danny, do you know what to do if the diagnosis blinks 4 times?
Should be in the description or in the comments
Very detailed video. I'm happy that I looked at your video!👍
Thanks appreciate it
Thanks for the very informative tips. Would you know the correct part/model of the relay for a 2008 Honda Civic Sedan DX-G?

Hi Danny, great video and wanted to ask for help. The thing that has me stumped is when moving the temp. nob, the blend door doesn't move but the temp. still changes fine. I'm having an issue when I'm driving more than 30 min, air stops coming out of my vents but I can still hear the blower motor and it sounds blocked. Blend door moves fine when switching through modes. And no codes from control
I need more information to make a educated guess, but here is something that comes to mind, evaporator can freeze if they get to cold, which won’t allow air to pass through, so if airflow pass with the ac in the off mode this could be the cause, again just a guess with the information given,
@@dannysdiygarage thanks for the feedback. What would say can cause the evaporator to freeze up?
Gets to cold usually caused by expansion valve or improper Freon level, sometimes you can keep max air off, and it will not freeze
I have a video replacing the expansion valve

So the only fan, the drivers side, turns on for me. Gotta figure out why and if that's my problem or if there's more to it.

Thanks for adding this
I would also check the relay

Hi, I have a 2010 Civic. The AC blows cold air for the first 10-15 minutes of the day, but then it cuts out only blowing hot fan air. The car will need to cool down for a few hours or perhaps overnight before it will blow cold air again in the morning. The hotter the ambient temperature, the shorter the AC is lived. 60-70 F will last 30 minutes before cutout. 95F maybe only 5-10 minutes before cutout. Does this sound like the compressor clutch wearing out? If so, should I just buy a new compressor? Thanks!
Did you ever find the issue? I’m literally having the same exact problem right now in my 2010
