Danny, don’t ever stop making videos about your Civic, you have helped me tremendously. I just bought a 10’ LX Sedan for a commuter and it needs some TLC
Appreciate your comment and you watching , I will keep working on video content 👍🏼
this man singlehandedly making me a mechanic. Atleast for my car.
Glad I can help
Followed this step by step to flush out and refill my refrigerant after an expansion valve replacement. I went from 🥵83° in the cabin to 29°🥶 on my 08 Acura Tsx.
Thanks for this awesome video Danny!!
Appreciate your comment
Danny, thank you very much for putting these videos of the ac system up. I have been following you step by step for a complete ac system replacement on my son's 2008 Civic. Your videos are awesome and extremely helpful. I've used quite a few of your videos as I get this car in shape. Your videos have saved me approximately $1500 in dealer labor in the past few weeks! I only wish you had an Accord as I need to go through my 20013 Accord with 210,000 miles. That Accord has not had a single repair or replacement other than tires and battery so I have some work ahead.
I appreciate your gratitude ❤
Awesome videos sir very informative step-by-step guide..exactly the job I'm having to get done on my wife's 06 ..thank you sir
Thank you
Amazing video, very helpful, the way you did it, step by step, it’s amazing I’m very impressed, thank you
so kind, I really appreciate that.
Awesome video!! Doing mine here in a few mins!
That was an awesome demonstration. I learned something new. Ty
You’re welcome, I appreciate your gratitude
Great videos Danny!
Thank you
It would be nice if you have a video of how to use the AC gauges properly, a beginners guide.
Great video!!! I like that thermometer.
Thanks and Yes, the thermometer works well and doesn’t break the bank
thank you so much for your videos you do know how to explain everything so fine thank you Danny
Appreciate you,
I think you demonstration was good and clear. Thank you very much
appreciate that
Danny your awesome keep making theese videos very professional! I sent u a message on Fb I need your help !
BEST FKN VIDEO COMPARED TO ALL OTHERS! U FKN ROCK DANNY!
Appreciate that ❤
Thank you uncle. God bless.
Appreciate you watching and commenting
I congratulate you, your video has been very helpful I have a 2010 Honda Civic, I was able to replace the expansion valve, all your instructions were very important, I congratulate you
I appreciate your gratitude
great job mister👍
Thank Carlinho 👍🏼
Everything good, the bad step done in your video is to warn the viewers about the burn on the skin if the gas touches your skin as it did while you purge the air in the line.
I did that following other video and i got the brown spots on my hands
Great point, yeah hard to remember everything when you’re a one man show, I always remember something that I forgot to mention after I post it, I wish RUclips let you update a video without loosing the link
Thanks for the video ! need to know, hold vac doesn't mean no leak, it may leak from the valves X2, happen all the time .😀
Great info, thanks for adding
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
Appreciate you
I bet you used to work with Honda right? Love your channel.
Actually a General Motors tech, 30 years, I do own Hondas and Toyotas because they have been dependable for me
Such a great job ! you are a great teacher and the video was awesome. Thanks thanks thanks! was your problem AC hot at idle? That what mine is doing and its the same car. once the RPMS go up on the engine it works great. I did a charge and it didn't help me. I think the expansion valve is my issue , Thoughts?
Yes, that was my issue exactly
3:16 mine stays stuck at -19 psi and loses the vacuum slowly. I have replaced both hoses and valves and the condenser is still good. What could be causing this?
2013 Toyota Venza V6 my ac was cold, but not cold enough. I know theres no leaks because the AC still works just need some time to get cold. I evacuated and recharged by weight, and even adjusted for the freon in the lines (find the volume of pipe). The result? 100 degress outside, and almost immediately my AC blows 38 degrees. I also have a 2016 CRV, much newer but cannot blow this cold especially on a hot day!
thanks for sharing
Question, I need your help, before replacing, the compressor worked?, or this part help to active the compressor, because my car everything work, has Freon , relay replaced, still not work the compressor,
Hi Danny I have the same car of you I have leak on the evaporator , I can hear the gas leak from the dash do you think. If I use stp seal or a/C pro seal it's good ideia to fix ? Thanks for your videos great work
It’s not recommended, here is a video on how to replace the evaporator ruclips.net/video/IszUT0cwvQM/видео.htmlsi=wwioFlv0l3QaQUp-
With the ac on, was it with recirculating on or off didn’t catch that and how many Oz does it hold? Thanks again uncle Danny for showing us how ❤
record on and I think I said it held 14 oz in the video
Great video, wondering do I need to add pag oil into the system after vaccum?
I did not, what comes out is minimal, I only add when I replace a major part
Thanks..
You’re welcome
What about the oil ?
What was the low and high reading???????????
I have 2007 civic hybrid and I’m replacing the evaporator, expansion valve, condenser, and compressor. How much oil should I put and where to put it? And when recharging with Freon, do have the ac on high(blower)? Thanks!
AC on high. You should be able to look up the amount of oil for each component and add it to the component when you install.
Danny, I want to just vacuum and top off or add any refrigerant to my 2010 Accord that I may be low on.
So, if I haven't replaced a component and my system has freon already in it, then what would my procedure be then?
There are no leaks, and it blows fairly cold, however, like you, I want to get my temperature as low and cold as possible.
Any advice appreciated,
Over the years your ac system can develop a small leak and not cool as good as it could, unless you own ac machine that will properly remove recycle and evacuate the system, you’ll be limited to adding Freon, monitoring the air ducts temperature while adding a little Freon can help, just don’t add to much, go slow, you can always add more, check out this video at around 10 minutes ruclips.net/video/WbPGVfQjAU8/видео.htmlsi=HI_inFKT_7lgxU94
Good luck, buy Freon with die and never buy anything that says it will seal leaks, I should have a link for Freon in one of my ac videos description
Hi Danny hopefully you see my comment I have a 2005 Jeep grand Cherokee I was not having any reading so I replaced the compressor and clean the system no leaks now I have static pressure I add Freon when I am adding Freon everything looks good but once it stop. Low pressure drops negative and high pressure stays on static even though compressor is running. What can it be? Thank you
Sounds like a possibility of blockage
@7:36 May I know what were the final readings on gages after everything done? I think it is important. I believe I've read somewhere (I think someone on Amazon wrote) that we can go not by the weight of the refrigerant added, but rather by readings on the gauges. In many films I see they put those cans w/refrigerant on scales. This part is a bit confusing to me. Thank you.
I don’t remember the final reading sorry
@@dannysdiygarage That is O'k, thank you for reviewing my comment. Actually I think it might depend on a particular car. I found what those readings should be fm/Shop Manual (3 huge books) for the car (2001 Saturn SL2) I'm working on, they depend on temperature and humidity. The car requires 24oz of R-134a, so I think I'll go w/this amount, but keep eye on gauges, not to go over the limits for advised in the book pressure.
about low 32psi and high about 220 psi, your air cond pump older may need more gas, some models new pump only need 22psi.
use scale, because every cars gas have there own quantity, is old school, exe if this air cond still have problem like block somewhere, put this quantity will damage the system!
@@alanw5812 Thank you for the detailed explanations. I fixed out 2001 Saturn SL2 HVAC system and it works great, but it is always good to know more details.
Have you encountered issues on civic where the car vibrates for a little when the rad fan turns on?
no, not really, is it the compressor or the fans causing the vibration? I can tell when my compressor kicks in due to a slight vibration, however nothing out of the ordinary, you should possibly look at your engine and transmission mounts
Y ur ac clutch keep kick in and off like that
Next summer I’ll address that in a video, ac videos do better in the summer time
Hi Danny how were you able to measure the exact amount of freon? Considering that you had 2 12oz can and the system called for 14oz
Great question, I added slowly the 1st can which should be 12oz, then I monitored the outlet middle vent while slowly adding more Freon from the second can until it reached its lowest temperature reading, when you add more Freon and the temperature starts to climb stop, and that’s the amount, I used a full can and approx 6oz out of the other, which is normal because some Freon is left in the 1st can and some was left in the hose, if you have a scale, that would be best
Hopefully I explained this correctly
@@dannysdiygarageI read it takes 17-19 oz. So would make sense you added another 6 oz.
Mine drops down to 39 F on the road. Think I’m good or should it be lower?
It was over 90 degrees outside.
The temperature will probably only go higher from there, 39 is exceptional, stop, you’re good
@@dannysdiygarage thanks Mr. Danny. You’re the best! Keep up the good work!
In total ,how long did the job take, 1 day or two? Good job, very good video capture of all essential elements to do the job. I am thinking of attempting this to replace the evaporator as I believe it is leaking.
To replace the expansion valve, if you go slow it should take 4 hours, it took me about 7 with filming, recharging the system 2 to 3 hours due to filming. Hope this helps, if I did it again, probably 4 hours start to finish
Do you have a link for the gauges you used? The “recharge hose” link is the same as the 3 cans of Freon.
It’s in the description
@@dannysdiygarage no it’s not
Sir, please could you tell how to purge the car AC system with dry nitrogen after solvent flushing? Is it very complicated procedure? Probably it is, since nothing on YT on this subject (including this rather detailed film, purging w/N_2 was not done though. I've read that if the AC system was opened to the air it should be purged w/N_2). Thank you in advance.
I’m not the person for that question, sorry
@@dannysdiygarage I've learned that actually that N_2 purging is mostly for the large HVAC systems, not for cars. And your film confirms that, since you obtained 42F and without that procedure.
Appreciate you clarifying
@@dannysdiygarage My pleasure.
When filling back up with Freon , do you only open up the low side or both low and high ?
Only the low side
@@dannysdiygarage thank you boss.
when I opened the low side to charge the high side needle didn't go up like it did on your video. and my air is still not blowing cold, I installed a new ac condenser and valve
Hi did your solution worked? AC still blow cold after 2 weeks?
Yes, we have had some hot days lately, ac is COLD , the job was a total success
Hi! just I didn't saw you put any oil in ?
Wasn’t needed
What is the purpose of the “H” line? Is it only opened when purging the system of air and moisture? Newbie to AC systems here!
High side and low side readings helps determine proper balance of Freon or pressure, most cars are charged by the low side
@@dannysdiygarage Thanks Danny. Another question: when you evacuated the old freon, how did you collect it? I want to do this entire procedure on my 1996 Camry, but the collection of the old R134a intimidates and confuses me…
Edit: I want to add that out of all of the videos on RUclips that I have watched on performing this job, yours is the easiest to understand!
Local shops usually will remove Freon for free, not all, but some do
Links for all the tools you used plz & thank you😊
sorry these are tools I've had for a while, I don't have links
Do you have to add pag oil when you do this if so how much oil?
No, not unless you’re replacing components
What were the high and low pressure readings when you finished adding Freon?
high side reading @ 1500 rpm, fan in front of the Radiator 175 to 200 PSI and low side 25psi to 35PSI 90 degree day and 5% humidity outlet temp air duct fluctuates 41degrees to 44 degrees
Question my fans won’t come on do I need to charge the system with Freon or it don’t matter
I have a video on my channel about fans not coming on , I suggest watching it for explanation
Do you need to add oil with a new refrigerant?
Only if you are replacing a component
What's the name of the valve that you put on the r134?
Can tap valve R134
Any updates? Still freezing in this heat?
Yep, everything is perfect ice 🧊 ice cold👌
Hi! Great video. What should I do if I preform a leak test and the gauge moved ever so slightly? I preformed my leak test overnight (instead of the hour you did) but only pulled the vacuum for 15 mins. Could this be why?
It should hold vacuum for 1hour, there is no spec for overnight, you’re probably fine
@@dannysdiygarage what happens if the high pressure loses vacuum, but the low stays.
@@hankhoxter6828 they should both hold a vacuum
What am I supposed to do if the high doesn't hold vacuum
Mine blows cold air fir like an hour in the morning and then the compressor stops for the rest of the day, what would be the problem?
I have a video on possible air conditioning causes on my channel which could possibly help you, please check it out
Hi, i watched that video but i didn't catch the problem yet, freon is good condenser is new, fans working, even on the scanner it says ac on, clutch on but the compressor is not working i poured water on the compressor and it worked again then stopped after like 30 mins. Could it be a sensor like a speed sensor?
@@user-ni7xu7lc3j did you watch my diagnostic videos, here is a link ruclips.net/video/WbPGVfQjAU8/видео.htmlsi=PZ2sklL0DaxzcDce
Not sure how to read the gauges any tips ?
Best to look up a chart on Google, gauge readings change depending on outside temperature, ask Google for AC gauge readings for a Honda Civic chart, my experience is usually: low side is typically 35 to 40 high side around 180 220 depending on outside temperature
@@dannysdiygarage thank you!!!! Saved me literally a thousand bucks you got yourself another subscriber 👍
There is also the hillbilly way of removing the Freon. It works fine if you hold your breath.
not good for the environment tho
You didn't put oil back
That’s correct, I did not, I didn’t replace any components other then the expansion valve
You dont explain how much fryonnto put into the AC system, you didnt explain how to tell when the system is not leaking and how to read the gages properly, you didnt explain why you had to purge the line, and the fact that if you put in more refrigerant into the system it can actually damage the system itself, how to calculate the correct amount.
I’ll do an update later April explaining all this in detail, thanks for the heads ups
I can’t get my ac to 43 degrees
Depends on humidity, temperature and many other factors
@@dannysdiygarage can u help me the low I get too is 49 degrees I replace everything did I do something wrong low side 36 high side 198
Did you watch my other ac diagnosis videos?
Did you check the blend door to make sure it’s moving all the way
@@dannysdiygarage yes I did am in Houston Texas
