Anyone ever heard of Manifest Destiny where Americans pretend it was God's will that they displace everyone else's society in the modern USA? I'm just doing my job here when I say that during the Medieval era the Islamic Caliphates protected Armenians, Georgians and Azeris in addition to other Christian groups in the south Caucuses from pagans living to the north. They let those people live with fairly autonomous rule as well so long as they held the frontier. Christian Romans and Zoroastrian Persians were the ones who created the situation there as it was. The Caliphates just walked in on and it gave them the same deal. Jerusalem has historically been more accessible to all pilgrims under Islamic rule more so than anyone else. Another big one was in Spain where they protected Jews. As soon as the Reconquista finished they imposed the Spanish Inquisition going after everyone who wasn't Catholic. There's other instances that I won't get into because they're all over the place but you see what I'm saying here? People who follow Islam believe in the Old Testament as much as Christians while Christianity evolved from Messianic Judaism. That's where people like John the Baptist came from. I think this argument is really short sighted because Judaism has the genocide of Philistines 3,000 years ago as the basis for calling Israel their home. Christians went on to colonize the world under the auspices of God. The crusades were also something Christians started but when Muslims do it, it's some how different? I'm not a religious person, it's just my job to know and teach ancient world history. There's plenty of Christians still in the Middle East. There's Coptics and Nestorians and all kinds of other sections. There is no such thing as a peaceful religion. I say the same about Tibet 1,000 years ago and Buddhism. It's just how humanity is. Also, something everyone on both sides gets wrong is the Crusades had people from both religions fighting on each side. The only reason people go to war is for earthly gains then they just write it off on religion to get more people on board for and against it.
