An officer used his weapon at Columbia and there are snipers at many universities. Rifles and guns are pointing at students all around the country. The students are posting videos, while guns are pointing at them, saying that there are no universities left in Gaza so they will keep protesting.
What point are you trying to make? Those troublemakers didn't shorten the war one bit, but they did manage to erode support for our military enough that the Communists won, condemning the South Vietnamese to live under a bloodthirsty dictatorship to this day. They also made it take twenty years longer and cost 10 million more civilian lives than it needed to.

We thought we were fighting communism but we were fighting people who were fighting to be independent of what most of them saw as an imperialist foreign power. Our war there to them was continuation of giant powerful countries robbing them of self determination. That war was known to be lost years before the political elite admitted it. Look up Nixon secret talks, when he was a candidate in 68, with the south Vietnamese government about extending the war if they pulled out of the 68 peace talks with the LBJ administration. I would be suspect of any graduate who chooses party over lives if they end up in a job that has control over people's health and wellbeing.

I generally would have agreed with your sentiment a few days ago; students should "grow up" and get over their emotions, i.e. "stop feeling scared".
I recently visited an encampment (u of toronto) and was surprised by the intensity of the signs and chants there: "all zionists are racist", "bankers=jews=devils", "zionazis", etc. Large crowds of students blocked me from walking on the same sidewalk as them (I've always had a little flag-of-israel pin on my knapsack).
I understand that students are emotional and passionate about what is happening in gaza.
But I would say the general level of hostility was intense enough to justify reasonable jews feeling insecure on the campus.
I recommend you visit an encampment yourself, if you haven't already!

Your concentration on non-students involved in protests on campus is curious. I protested in the 1970s on the campus of ASU while I was in High School. Non-students can use the public spaces as an area for assembly to redress our government. These are constitutional rights guaranteed by the Government.

There’s a strong case that the creation of Israel, which was indisputably a real catastrophe for the local Palestinian population, was a grave injustice, in part made possible by racist beliefs that led the West to ignore the impact of displacing local Arabs. There’s also clear evidence that Israel has been a bad actor since Netanyahu came to power (continued settlement expansion, strengthening Hamas at the expense of the PLO, human rights violations against Palestinians). The issue of Israel-Palestine has been a mask-off moments for many of these intellectuals. With that said, you don't need to beat yourself up over agreeing with them on certain issues. I still can on some things. But it's hard to deny that their opinion in the matter does affect how you see them. On this, I sympathize with you.
Personally I never put anyone on a pedestal or expect much from any of these experts. So knowing that some of them turned out to have opinions that I disagree strongly with simply reminds me that they're human and their words should not be treated as gospel.
