  • In this video I build a really useful scrap cart using only 1 single sheet of 3/4 plywood.
This was a challenge for myself to design something that utilized only 1 sheet to build something that I desperately needed.
I have FREE plans available on my website if you'd like to build one yourself.

In this day of greedy lumber yards and home centers jacking the price of plywood out of all proportion to the shortages the lumber industry hasn't actually suffered due to the pandemic; being able to make an actually useful scrap lumber rack out of a single sheet of plywood is amazing. Great job using what looked like every tiny scrap of that sheet. Totally ripping this off for my shop.

Just finished making my second one of these. My first used Baltic Birch. Second was the economy model. OMG people stick with the good plywood. After an hour of cussing the splits, voids and failing glue I was ready to burn my entire house down in a fit of stupid rage. After a beer tranquilizer I finished but I genuinely recommend the extra few dollars to avoid quitting woodworking all together. Thanks for the epic video and keep up the good work. From one former frustrated saw dust maker.

Jason s I was in a rush and bought a warped piece of plywood from HD...big mistake. I’m enjoying making this cart but will have to do it again with a nicer piece of plywood.

I was thinking the same thing on the plywood...why does everyone's plywood look so much better on these videos??? The plywood at Lowe's and Home Depot usually looks like crap. And I'll have to remember your beer tranquilizer comment...love it!!

@MakeEverything thanks for the lesson and tips...I have one for you!
I recently had to improvise to reach a hard area. Unfortunately I don't have a 90° head for my drill. I threw the driver bit into the end of a socket wrench! One hand to guide and one to turn worked really well.

I guess that means I probably also need two of them.

Built one of these this week, really pleased with the unit, thanks for taking the time to put this video and plans together, really handy this is all from a single sheet and being straightforward.
I’m hoping this will help me sort out scrap wood stashed in various parts of my garage.
I picked up a sheet of 12mm ply from a neighbour who was giving it away, a useful way to use the gift. I had to make some small adjustments from the plans based on a 3/4 inch board. 😎

I try to use reclaimed wood as much as possible but sometimes you really need a new sheet of 4x8 plywood. This project makes complete use of that wood, no waste, and your efficient design fits the spirit of using only what's needed. I was impressed with the speed and precision of your work. I'm going to build this cart but I'll probably use pocket holes because I don't think I can accurately position screws through plywood into 3/4" edges like you can.

Thank you my friend. I have been wanting to build one of these but the plans I have seen either call for a cart that is too big or require tools I don't have. This cart is the perfect size for my needs and requires only basic tools. Had it built before lunch and that included a trip to buy the plywood.

During my apprenticeship I had to do everything (including curves) on a worm drive and since then I've always made fun of guys using track saws, mitre saws, table saws, jig saws ect. As I was watching this I was amazed how fast you were able to lay down the track and make a cut. It's as fast if not faster then I can lay down a chalk line. Combine that with the fact that it's almost completely dustless and I think you just sold a track saw to this hater!
Great vid! This would be a great addition to any shop!

    • @felix4525

@@bouncer812 Yes everything is more expensive. The inflation portion appears to be due to the interests rates raised by the Fed Chairman Powell since 2018. The Fed supposedly operates independently for obvious reasons. So not directly tied to any administration.
Anyway, time to search for scrap boards for a scrap cart. 🙂

I finally got around to building this project. I have a few observations. Breaking down plywood with a dull blade, poor technique, and no saw guide went poorly. Also, I used much lower grade plywood (half inch) than you. One thing I changed that worked well was attaching G to E and I and J to F so that both sides of the dividers can be screwed down. With all the hollows in my plywood, I felt better having as many mechanical fasteners as possible. Despite changes and issues, it came together quite well. Thanks for designing something for those of us without an acre of shop space.

Thanks for this! It’s super handy to be able to do this with one sheet of plywood.
I ended up building this out of 1/2” plywood to save money and weight, and it’s still quite solid. though I didn’t take that into account when cutting the inner dividers so they all ended up a half inch short. Oops! I was able to make it work with some scrap pieces.
The other modification I made was to move the casters on the back towards the edge of the plywood. I found that when I had them located at the edge of the box part, it tended to get tippy when I stacked too much weight in sheet goods on that back lip.

Loved it! Regarding those extra scraps, you could fashion handles out of them to mount on the sides so you have a natural place to hold when pulling it around the shop.
I'm looking to do something like this myself, but I'll be using scraps of wood I'm salvaging from my job. We receive a lot of crated material and can't really repurpose the crates here, so I have a practically limitless supply of good quality plywood & OSB already cut into smallish pieces.
