I've not read these but you guys definitely have the best covers by a mile. I'm currently reading a trilogy "The First Law". I'll maybe star these next.
The art on the Polish editions are amazing! I feel like those are the editions that suit the series the most. I think I like the old school editions more then any of the modern American ones. I own the first modern American Mistborn editions you showed as well as the UK covers, and of course the UK covers are much better imo. You should do this for the Witcher Saga and The Stormlight Archive as well!! :D
My favorite Mistborn (and cosmere) covers are actually the Chinese covers! I love the stained glass look and how many details are included in the images-you can tell the cover artist really knows the stories
Kaylee Ding I just looked them up and they are beautiful. I saw another comment about German editions and being unsure as to which ones are new this year, I saw ones that just had these symbols on the front in blue, red, and green. I like those as well. I haven’t read the series yet, but I decided to go with the UK edition of the Final Empire...even though I don’t 100% like those covers. 😅
For Sanderson, I love the UK covers so much more. The art is beautiful, and they all fit so nicely together since they have the same style. But I wish I could afford the sexy leatherbound editions.
I love these old school covers, the style is just beautiful. Really all of them except the modern US ones are nice, though I was a bit disappointed that the UK editions are so stiff, they're as hard to read as a mass market.
The last ones are actually my favorites. But they are also the most expensive and I don't have the money to spend on all of them at the moment. I'd also have to read things by Brandon Sanderson to know if I'll even like the books first.
I really love the UK and 10th anniversary editions. I have both and they look so pretty on my shelves! The UK edition was not released in hardback but era 2 was. If anyone is interested in learning more about the UK editions (or any nonUS editions really), I recommend the Sanderson Collector youtube channel. He has a great video detailing all of the UK editions. Plus his collection of Sanderson translations is amazing!
In one of Sanderson's many college lectures available on YT, he talks about why literary agents are still useful once you've been published. He mentions having to use his literary agent to request different covers for his Mistborn novels as he felt the original covers were preventing the books from reaching the intended audience. He calls them the 'Grim Reaper' covers.
I own the “YA” covers and I totally agree about The Hero of Ages. It’s just.... WHO thought that was a good idea 😭 IMO: Polish > YA/ modern American (excluding Hero of Ages) > Classic > U.K. > tenth anniversary. I live in the U.K. atm and I actually don’t like the most of Sanderson’s UK covers. I like the idea behind them but not the execution. I will always go for the U.K. Warbreaker over the US version though - the US artwork looks really outdated.
I just discovered brandon's website and those signed old school hardcover looks amazing, just wish the print was on the hardback instead of a dust jacket
oh my goodness i wish they would release an English version of the Polish version. They look amazing! And that character at the front of The Well of Ascension is my favorite! ...I’m sorry I think I mentioned that in one of your videos. I apologize to whoever read it and had it spoiled for them. 😅
There was lately released (or to be released) 10th anniversary of The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett with illustrations of Dominik Broniek who is the creator of Polish Covers for most of Sanderson's books (you can find his site on fb under this name). So who knows, maybe one day you'll have the English version with his illustrations ^^
@@DanicaChristin from the US, I think I might agree. I mean, my personal favorite cover of these is the first book from that second set (but only the first). Now that I take a closer look at these covers though, I'm starting to try and figure out if they're all purposefully depicting big moments within the books. The broken window is the only one that's truly clear to me. I have an inkling of what that smalk round sphere in the second one might be but I'm not certain. I have no idea what the third cover is supposed to represent. Well, regardless, I'm still partial to the Polish.
Here in Germany, we got really beautiful new editions this year! I think you might like them: They are white with a pop of color and Allomantic symbols on them 😍 Nowadays I mostly read novels in their OV - if possible - but I vividly remember reading "Kinder des Nebels" (the German edition of The Final Empire) about 10 years ago when my English wasn't as good - and it was the one novel that made me absolutely fall in love with epic fantasy. Sooo happy to finally add a pretty German edition to my collection. The nostalgia! 😊 (Btw, you're of course right: the Polish editions ARE gorgeous!)
@@buchdrache1409 I usually also tend to like more intricate covers (Polish covers ftw!), but the quality of the new German editions is super good, even though they are paperback! Pretty floppy, sturdy material/spine... And I really love the colored details. But all of that aside and most importantly: I hope you enjoy your read! 😊
4:25 are the editions I got for Christmas 2020, but I really like how Vin looks in the US version (2:20) for the 1st book. She looks determined & how described, albeit, she kinda looks older or something. The modern editions have nice colors, but are kinda plain without any characters on them. Really liking this series, though! I might end up liking Mistborn trilogy as much as Mass Effect and Lord of the Rings.
I have the UK version (must be the taller version since the layout is a little different and it has a pretty blue metallic boarder) and while they are stuff at first, I was really happy how they broke in with reading. After one read they are quite floppy and comfortable!
The Polish covers are awesome, but the oldschool ones give that painting-ish vibe (as you said). This makes the trilogy feel more like history to me, which is exactly what sanderson wants the trilogy to be for his mistborn books: ancient history.
I love the new german covers so much, I'm very tempted to buy them just for the looks even tho I only ever read original (as long as I speak it ofc) nowadays! You should have a look, excited to see what you think.
I love these edition comparison videos! It would be great to see a quick flick through of the font, size and spacing on the pages, and the floppiness of the books. These are also really big factors for me when deciding what editions to buy! 😊
Apart from the illustrations, I also don’t like the typography on the modern US versions. I got the UK covers, I like that they have a simple, stylized aesthetic. Those details on the Polish covers tho...
Well, I initially learned English to read books not available/not yet available in Polish, so... Everything is possible if you have strong motivation😉 (Also, interesting fact nobody asked for: in Poland, sans few rare exceptions, the paperback covers and hardcovers are published at once, so it's your choice which one you buy. You are not made to wait half a year if you can not afford the HC😏...)
If Im being honest I picked Brandon Sanderson up only this year because I don't really love any of them. I don't like people on covers and I really don't like typography of most of these.
YOOOO, JUST LOOKED THEM UP, they're like stained class! Those are so pretty!!! What the heck, almost every addition of the Mistborn Trilogy books are super pretty, i've never seen this before in any series i've come across. XD
I was genuinely excited that there might be different versions of the story. That’s not what’s discussed here I realized after longer than I want to admit
I love this video!!! I just want to add that a broken spine means nothing if you struggle or wrestle with a tome the whole time you’re reading. Reading for a long period of time, floppiness and larger inside margin are more important than if a book looks read. I wish more bktubers spoke on editions like this - and spoke on comfort during a read (floppiness, inside margin, size, etc). Les Mis started my obsession with edition specs as the first ones I bought sight unseen, were so short in height that I realized why that novel is nicknamed “the brick”. So PLEASE keep talking about editions- paperback(!!) as well as hardcover. I don’t believe I’m alone - I’d bet most people buy books to actually read them and less for an aesthetic. Btw - I totally agree with your taste in covers. I love the first modern American covers - except for book 3. I love the UK paperbacks- except I can’t do stiff bounded tomes and Tor Books paperbacks are where I think I’ll end up even though I think the covers are good, they aren’t great but reviews say they’re worth it because of floppiness. (A funny word considering its importance to me. Lol) Lastly - Tor Books has a trilogy set which are slightly larger (6.2x9.4) as opposed to single issue (6.19 x 9.25) (same exact covers) and you can usually double check the sizes on Amazon if that’s where you get your books. Some folks are disappointed when their Tor published books come in different heights. Best bet is to buy all single editions from same publisher and published date - AND double check hxlxw. And compare page count for copies that share the same covers. You never know. Very lastly the box may very easily be the size differential. But seeing the differences on other reader’s bookshelves I don’t want to chance it. It would drive me & my ocd up a wall. 😂 ✌🏻
It sucks to be me, really! I'm a Pole living in Poland, but I read in English. And guess which edition of "Mistborn" was easiest to procure? The modern USA edition, the one that was first in the vid. Now, I don't hate them, but whenever I visit a local bookstore and see the Polish covers on display, I just get. So. Jelly. I wish I could buy an edition with Polish covers but English everything else, you know.
i'm a sucker for the modern covers and that classic look that fantasy mass paperbacks have. Something about that style (same as wheel of time) just makes me happy. Maybe because of how "nerdy" they seem to me. And they also age well I think!
10:30 These ones are my favorites. They're so different while still having a distinctive style to them. I especially love the Hero of Ages one, it's simply one of my most favorite artworks I've seen in a while, with this shot composition and color selection. Also, shootout for depicting Vin in dresses, I always found her liking this stuff a very important facet of her character that doesn't get brought up often enough.
I like the first two in the tenth anniversary editions, but the third one makes Vin look like she is in her mid 30's to early 40's. As for the UK editions... I love the first one, second is okay, and the third is a cop out since it's just a crop of Vin's face from the second book. If I consider the entire Trilogy the Polish one's are the overall winner for me as each cover is unique, and clearly inspired by the contents of the book. P.S. You may look into getting your Polish edition rebound to include the English text by a professional if you're interested in that sort of thing, but you might be against it if you prefer to keep the edition intact.
I think the Polish covers are fantastic but also really like the old school. What is it with the American versions dropping The Final Empire from the title of the first book?
I love and collect the UK covers, but I moved a few years and had to store my books in the garage for a few months. The page edges yellowed badly during that time, which was very disappointing. I'll still buy them, but will do my best to keep them out of conditions like the garage.
I got the Nova Edition in Spanish... I love the fact that the 3 books combine in one big image. From what you showed today... I agree the polish are the best ones.
Oh man, those polish covers are drool worthy. I've seen them in the background of some videos but I didn't know what they were. Picking second favorite I'd say modern covers are the best with my single favorite cover being Hero of Ages Old School. That is just a beautiful piece of art there. The first two old school covers, not so much.
Well I am probably biased so of course the Polish ones are my favourite. But it's also because they are sooo my style. The artist who did them is amazing and you can follow his instagram @dominikbroniek (you're welcome). I think in The Netherlands and Portugal they bought rights to the Polish covers so they have the same ones. I actually like the 10th anniversary ones, they have this nice dark feeling I love. And it's nice that they made the UK editions to work with other Sanderson books. It looks nice on shelves later.
The UK ones are my favorite! They were the first covers I saw while I was reading Mistborn for the first time (can you be nostalgic for just a few months ago? Haha), and I also feel like it "matches" a whole bunch of other Sanderson book covers!
My ideal choice would be the modern American YA covers (the ones you show at 3:30) for the first two books, and then Polish edition (the ones you show at 6:40) for HERO OF AGES.
I need to collect the entire Cosmere collection in UK editions, it would look so good on the shelf and I would still be able to read them lol the Polish ones are awesome though, I just can't justify getting the books just for the cover : /
I'm in the UK and I haven't ever seen any hardback copies of mistborn. Also, I can confirm that the UK paperbacks are not flexible but they fair better if you stretch the spine before reading
Good to know. I’ve got one of each of the modern American lmao how unfortunate. Vin jumping in the mists for book 1, the shattered seal with the bead of metal for book 2, and vin and elend for book 3
just curious-why did you buy the Polish ones? Do you have links to Poland or was it just bc the covers are awesome? (Which a totally perfect reason btw)
I have the mistborn book cover Brandon Sanderson hated. It was the one with the Steel Inquisitor wielding a scythe and looking like the grim reaper. I will never get rid of it and hopefully one day be able to ask Brandon Sanderson to sign it.
Awesome video, the anniversary covers look the best in my opinion. I have the YA American and they look so smooth on a shelf, prob my third fav. Also, as for your comment on who the guy is on the second and third, if you didn’t mention it was a spoiler, I would’ve figured Kelsier. But now my mind goes to that other rando they associate as a love interest for Vin (I’m only a third of the way through the first book lol) - it’s not a big deal but spoiled more than otherwise
Not sure if someone else mentioned but the cover that Sanderson didn’t like was for the first printing of the final empire. The first edition is actually not the first printing of the book. I think they only printed a couple thousand to test in a few book stores, as a new author, he didn’t have any control over that cover. but I remember it being pretty awful and looked more horrific than magical. If I remember correctly it was of a depiction of a steal inquisitor. It was confusing and didn’t market or sell the book very well. If I remember correctly it was once the book was reprinted that the book took off. He sold out of those printed copies immediately and they published the book. My memory is fuzzy on that last point.
You guys should take a look at the spanish covers. They are amazing. I could say that they are a little better than the polish ones. And the reason is because I don't like covers where it looks like it's a photo, the characters posing and looking at the camera doing nothing.
I just bought the white UK covers and while they’re gorgeous I’m a bit disappointed with how short they are. This is my first time with a UK edition so I didn’t realize there would be a size difference. I know it’s a bit of a weird thing to be disappointed about but I personally avoid US mass market paperbacks at all costs for their size.
I'm between the Polish and the UK covers. The Polish, while beautiful, to me, are more of for the people who care art of the covers. Meanwhile, I like the UK because how well they fit together when stacked on the shelf, and how different they are, compared to other books. Seriously, throw a pile of 100 books, you can find the UK editions, in a literal second.
Elliot: "We are going to be comparing different covers of the Mistborn trilogy today."
Also Elliot: *Takes down half her books*
I realize it's pretty randomly asking but does anyone know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
@River Killian i would suggest Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
I'm Polish so I'm sooo proud that the Polish editions are winning in the poll :D
You've got the best depiction of Vin and that other character that I've ever seen. It was an easy choice.
They are so beautiful and the fact that the image is on the hardback instead of a cover is amazing. I dont know why this doesn't happen more!
I've not read these but you guys definitely have the best covers by a mile. I'm currently reading a trilogy "The First Law". I'll maybe star these next.
Stormlight archaiv are prety nice in Polish cover not amazing but nice
nie wierzę, że jesteś Polakiem
Old school covers were my fav until You showed those Polish covers. Love them
The "old school" editions are defiantly my favorite. I wish I could find them.

wtfff they are so epic i want them :(
I like the Spanish editions because I think it represents the characters (Kelsier, Vin and Elend) very well. Also I love the polish editions.
They look GREAT
I really like The Hero of Ages Old School cover. The other two not nearly as much.
Same!
I like them all, but I agree that The Hero of Ages old school cover is the best.
I feel like the old school ones look like graphic novel covers. They always remind me of Fables covers.
For Sanderson, I love the UK covers so much more. The art is beautiful, and they all fit so nicely together since they have the same style. But I wish I could afford the sexy leatherbound editions.
LOVE the "old school" covers! They remind me of the wonderfully old school covers on The Wheel of Time series in paperback.
Yes I love the UK ones too, white ones with the sketch-like drawings. Best version in my opinion.
I love these old school covers, the style is just beautiful. Really all of them except the modern US ones are nice, though I was a bit disappointed that the UK editions are so stiff, they're as hard to read as a mass market.
The brazilian covers are amazing as well , you should see them.
Yes!!!! Those are the same cover we have here in Spain for the Spanish edition. First and second era follow the same style. Pretty awesome!!
I freaking love the old school covers!!
I really like the old school. I don't know why, the oil painting-ness just really appeals to me.
The last ones are actually my favorites. But they are also the most expensive and I don't have the money to spend on all of them at the moment. I'd also have to read things by Brandon Sanderson to know if I'll even like the books first.

The polish covers are so good! Also the polish cover of Elantris? Heartbreakingly good. 😭

I really don't get the UK covers appeal, at all.
But I love all the Sam Weber covers, all of them, he's a genius, I guess to each their own.
I'm so jealous of the Polish covers! I'd really love to get my hands on those versions but so far I've not found anywhere that sells them :(

I have no idea how to find the voting thing but I like the UK covers best.
I loved the old school style!😍💖💖
The UK ones are my favorite! They were the first covers I saw while I was reading Mistborn for the first time (can you be nostalgic for just a few months ago? Haha), and I also feel like it "matches" a whole bunch of other Sanderson book covers!
My ideal choice would be the modern American YA covers (the ones you show at 3:30) for the first two books, and then Polish edition (the ones you show at 6:40) for HERO OF AGES.
Just check the new Spanish ones. The art is too awesome💖 I decided to buy the first volume because of the cover
Such a warm voice 🤞🏻
the old school cover :) Love them and I have them on my shelf too...
Where did you buy the polish I really want them!!
(Spoiler)
I love how its vin then elend then both together:D
I actually really liked the newest modern American covers. But nothing compares to the glory of the Polish covers lol
Polish covers are amazing !! What the hell!! i think i might need to learn Polish !!
I also love the version we have in Brazil, you guys should take a look
It's paperback only though
I am loving these types of videos! keep them coming!! Haven't even read this series yet but I can vote right? lol
I need to collect the entire Cosmere collection in UK editions, it would look so good on the shelf and I would still be able to read them lol the Polish ones are awesome though, I just can't justify getting the books just for the cover : /
I just like how clean and consistent the UK covers look
I'm in the UK and I haven't ever seen any hardback copies of mistborn. Also, I can confirm that the UK paperbacks are not flexible but they fair better if you stretch the spine before reading
Good to know. I’ve got one of each of the modern American lmao how unfortunate. Vin jumping in the mists for book 1, the shattered seal with the bead of metal for book 2, and vin and elend for book 3
just curious-why did you buy the Polish ones? Do you have links to Poland or was it just bc the covers are awesome? (Which a totally perfect reason btw)
Brandon Sanderson signed my "old school" edition Mistborn books and he commented that he really loved this edition. 💁
I like the UK cover most. But that could be just because they're ones I own.
My favorite are the covers from the brazilian edition. They are beautiful
My favorite ones are the brazillian, they are amazing. Unfortunately they are not sold anymore
Watching Mistborn videos without having read them yet (currently waiting for them to arrive) do be risky af
When I was in Ireland, I saw some editions that were taller. If I’d known, I would’ve made sure to get those!
We get the white ones in NZ, but I imported the american stormlight ones since they are one book where british was split into 2
I'm between the Polish and the UK covers. The Polish, while beautiful, to me, are more of for the people who care art of the covers. Meanwhile, I like the UK because how well they fit together when stacked on the shelf, and how different they are, compared to other books. Seriously, throw a pile of 100 books, you can find the UK editions, in a literal second.
i really like the old school edition and the us version (2:20) but the polish edition is so beautiful
My personal favourite are the Chinese editions. The artwork is very busy by its so stunning 😍
