    Wheel of Time was my first major foray into high fantasy. I personally loved (for the most part) what Sanderson did with the last 3 books, so I was interested to explore his work when I finished WOT. I read Mistborn and OH BOY. I immediately became a Sanderstan and have since then read everything in the Cosmere. There’s nothing like that first trilogy. It has a special place in my heart.

      Was looking for a new series found stormlight heard it was part of something larger(cosmere) wanted to do that in the most chronological order I could and mistborn was the starter . Within two months I also had read almost all the cosmere and was even a few books into wheel of time🤣

    Mistborn was my first fantasy book and it drew me into Fantasy Fiction completely. The lessons, the growth, the careful planning and the twists. The reveals at the end. More cultures and worlds you get introduced to even at the end of the book when you're literally hanging on a thread at the edge of your seat. It's crazy and phenomenal. 10000% recommend this book. It's also a very easy read

      @snozzmcberry2366 Год назад +1

      @@bookreviewsfromareadingmac1148There **is** a chronology though. There are tangible benefits of enjoyment to be had from reading Warbreaker and Mistborn Era 1 before Stormlight, for example. You don't really LOSE anything from reading the Cosmere out of order, but you do gain something from staying in order. Then again, Cosmere series require rereads to fully appreciate everything (and there is no such thing as reading Cosmere and not wanting to reread), so it works out eventually anyway.

      @adamnesico whether that's true or not, Sanderson knew what quote to use, who to have use it, when in the book for it to be used, etc...... good writing isn't just saying a cool thing first (after all, everything worth saying has already been said) its knowing *when* to say it

  • @Trepur349

    First Era mistborn remains my favourite fantasy trilogy, the hero of ages prophecy is by far my favourite phrophecy in all of fiction (and I'm normally not a huge fan of chosen one prophecies) and I love Vin so much, she's such a well written victim of childhood abuse and seeing her grow over the three books was such a joy, and I loved rereading it after knowing the ending and paying attention to how Ruin was trying to influence things in the first two books. It's just so perfect.

  • @karohe

    it is funny that I just finished my first reread. I had forgotten how much action packed the first book is. The second book is such a drag though. The third book has the least action, but is very rich in lore. Chapter epigraphs are the most important part of the third book.

    • @jackoster7115
      @jackoster7115 11 месяцев назад

      I realized that while the second book is quite forgettable in the grand scheme of the series, it has some very crucial character development in it. While the major moments don't come from the second book, non of the great payoffs exist w/o it. First book will still always be the most special tho :)

After Elantris, Warbreaker and Emperor's Soul I'm excited for what the second Mistborn series will bring. I stopped at the first trilogy thinking it can't be improved and I'd be disappointed when they expand upon it, but I trust Sanderson does everything well now.

I would say that Mistborn (Era 1 and 2) are my favorites from him but the Stormlight Archive is shaping up to be something truly special with the planned 10 books series so it's a slower burn but it feels like it'll have a bigger payout towards the end.

    I read the Way of Kings but didn't go any further with that series, as I wanted to wait until it was finished rather than invest time in something I can't (yet) complete. So I read his Mistborn Trilogy. I like all three of those books and the Way of Kings, but there's a big J-Lo sized BUT... BUT, the end of the Way of Kings and the last book of the Mistborn Trilogy are all given over to Gods, or at the very least, beings with God-like powers. Gods tak away all the struggle, all the meaning, all the consequences of the actual main characters that have been there throughout the books because it can all be done, undone or redone by a God without any of those struggles etc. They can do everything the characters have struggled three books for with a raise of their eyebrows. It's total BS and ruins everything; especially considering Sanderson's second law of magic:
    "Weaknesses, limits and costs are more interesting than powers"
    This just all disappears when Godly powers get thrown around. I don't have a problem with Fantasy's predilection towards including Gods that are less faith-based and ethereal and more physical and material, but it needs to be in the vein of GRRM's Ice and Fire; there's a Many-Faced God, the Lord of Light and by the things that occur in the books (and TV series) it is obvious that these aren't "faiths" in the purest sense, as the supernatural powers are very much real and don't require faith. There are very real example, sporadic as they may be, of their godly powers. But that's it, they're sporadic and not decisive in terms of the story. If a God swept in at the end and overthrew King's Landing, or killed the Dragons or defeated the Others/White Walkers with a wave of their godly finger it would make you question why the hell you'd invested so much damn time in the characters, their struggles, consequences, arc, growth, defeats etc over 1000's and 1000's of pages when a God just waltzes in at the end and, well, ends it. It would render it all useless.
    Alas, as such, as much as I enjoyed the Way of Kings, I can't seem myself re-entering the Cosmere for these reasons; as it is a pointless (and meaningless) exercise.

    Problem I have with Sanderson compared to say, an Erickson is quantity of quality. Brandon is pumping out books way too quickly for any proper depth to be built, like the Malazan books.

    WORST FICTION TRILOGY EVER!
    *spoilers* the whole plot is about the skaa rebellion (class of underprivileged people) and yet there is no insights on their livelihood, the rebellion is led by Kelsier who is not even a skaa and does not have any concrete reason for wanting to overthow the final empire THAN TO KILL THE LORD RULER. there are so many contradictions, Kelsier is shown to have lost his wife when she was killed by the lord ruler which could have been a good reason for his rebellion BUT he started growing unusual feelings towards his own apprentice and even doubts his wife to have betrayed him, which makes the whole rebellion look stupid. The skaa (after 1000 years of oppression) were not interested in fighting and kelsier claims to lead the rebellion for the skaa but he has absolutely no idea about the real struggles of skaa and seems to live in his own world and impossible goals. His own apprentice kills the lord ruler with a simple trick which has no explanation even though lord ruler had more powers than anyone and even believed to be immortal. Kelsier's own brother helped the apprentice to kill the lord ruler but there is no mention of him in the second book and nobody even thought or spoke about him. Elend, who had no magical powers was difficult to like in the beginning but I started liking his character because of his core principles and how he held on to it, but once he got his powers, he became the same as any other character which made me hate him even more. By the second book, I already wanted to give up reading. There is unnecessary drama and twists without any explanation. Few main characters are killed off just for the story but nobody is even shown mourning for them. Every conversation in the story feels empty, even the philosophical debates are having no depth. The love story between the apprentice and Elend is the lamest thing, they are started off as an unconventional pair, which could have a huge scope for developing into a deep romance but all they do is hide things from each other and it feels shallow to the point that all they do is just maintain their "duty" of protecting and trusting each other but it just seems like a facade because they never actually understood each other or even try to be real with each other, which made me cringe so bad when they had any sort of physical affection. This was a complete waste of time for me. The story is good upto the point where the apprentice killed the lord ruler but after that it is simply dragged to the author could make more money.
    Some side characters have been given no relevance to the actual storyline and the author has just added them in conversations to make them look involved.
    I would highly recommend reading scythe if you are looking for a meaningful and solid plot.
