There's a nice story about this in Springsteen's autobiography. After the show Dylan thanked him for performing and told Springsteen to let him know if there was ever anything he could do for him. All Springsteen could say was, "It's already been done."
That’s history
@@benjaminmyles5886 yes. Otherwise it wouldn't be described in an autobiography.
Woostock. Concierto?
Ahahaha
Bob Dylan asked Bruce to sing this.
Without Dylan there would be no Springsteen, Without Springsteen there would be no light in my world. Thank you both for the gifts of your poetry & music.
Perfecte woorden van de profeet 👍🌈🙏
I'm not going to take anything away from Dylan, but Springsteen has had plenty of influences. Woody had a lot of influence on Dylan.........don't forget that.
@@leemdynamo he’s stated that Dylan and Elvis were his two main influences ,along with the stones
My thoughts exactly
I am not so sure there would be no Bruce Springsteen without Bob Dylan. I know that Bruce Springsteen is a very talented songwriter/singer/guitarist in his own right, and for that reason alone he has emerged in popular music and consequently gets the public recognition he truly deserves.
One of the great piece of lyric writing of all time.
Bruce's cover is horrible
@@Kratos30000 you have got to be joking..or you are outside of your mind..This is an incredible job by Bruce..
Its very touching when Dylan endearingly raises his eyebrows at :40, seems like he felt understood by Bruce
Lol
Dylan thanked Bruce after this show and told him if he could do something for him. the Boss answered: Are you kidding? You have already done that
Don't think I've ever seen Dylan look so emotional. This got to him.
Thought he look bored😂
It was a poor Dylan imitation and I think, Bob was trying to keep a straight face. JMO of course.
He looks surprised at this being the best Bruce could do...
Think he was just horrified how bad Bruce sounded
These are the covers we needed in 2022.
Thank the universe for Dylan and Springsteen!
4 years ago. 5 years ago..30 years ago.God Bless Bruce Springsteen..And of course God Bless Bob
God Bless Bob & Bruce
I grew up listening to Bob Dylan as it was my dads best music to listen to along with Bruce Springsteen and Lenard cohen, every time I listen to bobs music it always brings a tear to my eye after loosing my dad,
I love you dad thank you for bringing this music into my life,,
The merging of lyrics with classy nobel prize class and singers classy grammy award. What can be said other than amazing?
Bob Dylan through his music and poetry has lived a life of substance. We should all be so fortunate to live by his creed.
Passing the torch. As a huge Springsteen fan, I am so proud that a man so in important to United States history, Bob Dylan, was early Springsteen fan. He saw himself in him, but also recognized that The Boss had his own things to say. That's passing the torch.
You are confused....Dylan walks in and silences a room and still does to this day 01/07/2023....Springsteen merely enters.
This was the first time I heard Springsteen's rendition-he sings I think he interprets it the way Dylan wanted-really something special
Not sure what you saw....but didnt look like Dylan was delighted...more confused at how lacklustre it was...that harmonica after each verse...come on Bruce try harder!
@@Dobzie795 You haven't watched a lot of Dylan have you?
Through Bob Dylan's lyrics I get peace in my life, and Bruce' music strengten this feeling
Amazing performance from Bruce thanks Bob brilliant stuff
There is no other word: Only this: Wonderful!!!
Two greatest songwriters ever as far as I am concerned.
the thing is, he sung this with heart and that's it.
***** He did. And he always does. Few if any are better.
YES!
Yes, he sang it with his heart, but certainly not his best voice......
@@firechief33317 Hmm, thought it was good. Doesn’t have to be smooth and i love the accent!
Dylan is definitely emotionally touched
Legend sings for a legend !!! Woooww
I really enjoyed this. It shows the great ability of music to inspire. I believe Springsteen and Dylan greatly appreciate and respect each other.
Bruce did great!
What can i say. i'll say this is the Beauty of Art. and the struggle that still exist in America to this Day!
If Dylan wasn't accepting the social and political impact of his songs, he never would have accepted this honor. At the end he gives Bruce some hard applause, not just a pitter-patter golf clap.
Dylan started out his career being labeled the "new Woody Guthrie" so he knew what it was like spending your career in comparison to somebody else. I think by the 90s he and Bruce had come to a mutual understanding and Dylan took it as real respect.
Well, we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school.
Maybe you should have paid better attention in school.
Keith Smith it's a lyric from a Springsteen song (No Surrender if I remember correctly) : 'we learned more from a three minute record, baby, than we ever learned in school'
considering you're probably a left wing extremist (by the looks of your avatar), I won't be taking your garbage opinion with anything remotely larger than an atom.
Everybody and their children KNOW exactly what Bob Dylan means in all of his lyrics. It's no wonder, the man stays out of the light. ONLY Mr. Dylan knows what he means about anything at anytime, including Mr. Springsteen.
One of the best covers in the history of covers.
It sure is!..tell that to kratos in the comments..I did..
Two of the greatest ever. My personal #1 and #1a...
This must have been the hardest thing to do for Bruce. Singing a hymn to your ovn idol..
Love this comment. And I'm sure Dylan liked the way Springsteen stuck to the simplicity of the original arrangement.
Today's much needed Psalmist 💛 honoring those that have come before 🙌 Sacred and so heartfelt sound
Love the harmonica!!
I always came back to this performance…two of my fav artists in the same video
Perfect words .. incrível tribute! Legend Singer for Legend . Great moment 🎤🎼🎸👏👏
Boom. Mikedrop. Seacrest out.
This is the way Bruce roll.
Semper Fi, brother❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hear listening to Bruce on Howard. Saving to watch later!!
Simply amazing and awesome 👏 thanks 🙏 wow Bruuuuuuuuve nailed that one ☝️
Springsteen is my bob dylan… still love em both❤
Awesome tribute
Bob Dylan e espetacular.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
bob is bob, bruce is bruce, i am more than thankful i found the music of both oh so many years ago
He’s called the boss cause he’s the boss
Yes . But the pupil was playing in front of the master.
Y'all friggin nuts wanting to criticize either Bob or Bruce, or both. Art travels across generations.
So amazing. I love this.
Bruce brings us Bob.
Americans need this today, a boost in morals, acceptance is a hard pill to swallow, to the young please give a listen...
Mr Bruce Springsteen ❤bob Dylan ❤️
Maestro de sus silencios,Dueño de sus palabras NUNCA ESCLAVO DE EL MEDIO
awesome stuff...an honour to listen to it....
And in 2022, they are drastically changin again, Bruce! 🎶🎸🎶
Dylan, you remain wayyyy ahead of your time brother! Salute 🇺🇸🎶🎸🎶🇺🇸
So beautiful song
So true even today
From Bruce to Bob...... "CLASH OF TITANS"
Bobs eyes and facial expression shot out love directly to Bruce . Such a cool moment in history! I'm pretty sure Bruce was singing that song to the Clintons though.🤣💙💚
Bruce at his best.
⭐⭐ Priceless ⭐⭐
Wow! Thank you, Boss.
Just wow - just wow
These snippets are awesome. You've got enough material now though that you can start offering complete shows on DVD. Would be happy to buy episodes!
Crazy good.
First time I heard his this cover and was super impressed 👏 👌
Besser kann man diesen Bob Dylan nicht huldigen
Just what I was looking for now, preparing a new year's greeting, with good luck for needed changes.
Dylan's look in Bruce's introduction is priceless, like "No, dude. Don't try and pose what you think my songs are about on a large audience"
I love Dylan and I love Bruce, and I agree with you completely, I'm sure that's exactly what Dylan was thinking, his look says it all. But that is more Dylan's problem than it is Bruce. Dylan has always fiercely divorced himself from the political and social implications of his songs, and always downplayed the notion that he was a spokesman for a generation through his songs. But, you can't write songs like The Times They are a Changin, Masters of War, Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, or The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, and then be divorce yourself from what those lyrics will mean to fans. Dylan knew exactly what is was doing when he wrote those songs, and knew they were politically charged lyrically. His reaction to those implications is just Dylan being Dylan.
Anthony Salvati Absolutely. Still, Bruce was being a little cocky, too, but I guess that's just Bruce being Bruce too, haha!
Roy de Smet Yeah as much as I love Bruce, I agree with you that his tone in that introduction was a little cocky, on the other hand Bruce historically has always treated his musical heroes with great deference, and Dylan is absolutely one of his musical heroes.
Anthony Salvati I always liked the line "beautiful call to arms" in his intro and don't thick that's cocky - but that's probably a label easily attached to anyone daring to take Dylan's lyrics verbatim? This stripped-down performance came at a time when Springsteen had toured extensively with his album "The ghost of Tom Joad" - album and tour showed that and how the times actually had changed.
David Cappel Exactly right David, I loved that line as well. I love the rocking Bruce but for me, The Tom Joad tour and the Devils and Dust tour captured Bruce at his best, just the way he auditioned for John Hammond, a guitar, his voice and his lyrics. Pure Bruce
So much love it.❤️❣️
This was 1997 and we still haven't got it right yet. I wonder if we will ever get it right? Maybe the younger people will, let's hope so.
Nobody Sings Dylan like Dylan, like Dylan and Springsteen.I agre
Nobody sings Dylan like Dylan and Springsteen like Springsteen! Aggreing?
nah
Yeah no these are my two favorite singers but this is bad
I don't like the way he delivers this. all pose. Now go listen to Springsteen cover like a rolling stone. Incredible!
Bruce, you know, you're always traying to pup in songs singing this way.
Lots of you that hate this are just taking it too seriously. None of you ever sang along to Dylan while trying to sound like him? Sure you did. I think that is why they call it entertainment. It's not as if a musical tribute should be on par with ones relationship with God, and such to be considered sacred. It's just life my friends, and enjoy the moments it allows us. I liked his version here.
Thanks Bob
🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹
3:56 19 years earlier and you can still tell why she could never be presedent. The difference in personalaties in huge.
well 65 million disagree with you ...second highest popular vote ...ever
It seems to take a lot to move Dylan ! Bruce did that there
My America.
for ever Bruce
I like listening to Bruce's work. He made James Taylor's Millworker into something way more than anybody else did, and never tried to sound like anybody but himself.
It must be something to do with Bob Dylan's status, but it seems to me that Bruce, as good as he is, puts way more effort into sounding like Bob Dylan than Bob ever tried to. I don't think I have heard Bob sing the same song the same way as he ever did before.
Bruce can do no wrong, but God he came close here.
How so?
@@boxerrobert4005 open your ears man. He sounds terrible
My personal favorite version might be Simon and Garfunkel's. It is on Wednesday Morning 3AM.
Fantástico ❤
thanks bob
rock on bruce & bob
I did see Billy Bragg do a mighty powerful version of this great song...
Ha...never knew the Boss played Dylan live for Dylan listening.
Respect
Nobody sings Dylan like....Dylan.
darrenjray No ponto!
Wow
Springsteen is one of the few Dylan imitators to actually succeed. Neil Young is another.
+Randy Bailin Sorry but Springsteen does not even come close. It's nowhere near the feeling and does not capture the meaning of Dylan. Truth be told it's laughable. He sounds like a constipated beagle,
+Ulysses432 no he is right, springsteen is not a folk singer, his lyrics are good but not poems, Dylan and springsteen are different, neil young is nothing compared to dylan, (and so bruce).the only singers you study in school are Dylan, and an italian guy(fabrizio de andrè). If you listen the words of their songs you just get wrecked by the haviness of their thoughts. springsteen was a rocker not a poet, neil young was a folk singer, nothing more
+fourever Airrival I'm not going to disagree with you, two different singers but you can see from the face Springsteen has something that he relates to this song and he sings it his way, i love Springsteen i love the original bob dylan. but i love the passion each has and each has their own memory to this song.
+fourever Airrival Well, I would consider Springsteen folk albums poem. His lyrics are often just getting lost in the crowd of his shows.
Neil Young a folk singer? LOL
mmmm esta es una buena cancion,,le gusta mucho a mi padre
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
Awesome rendition of the original.
Aprendi gostar do bob por causa minha mae
🕊🌻🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🌻🕊GOD BLESS ALGERIA 🌻🕊🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🌻🕊
0:37 Dylan's eyebrows says it all: "No it isnt."
He is another one. FLUSH.
I'M COMING.....
Reading the comments on here remind me of another Dylan line "Everybody's shouting which side are you on?"
Yeeeaaaahhhh
Bob is at times struggling to keep his poker face here
amen
Springsteen is a legend but this performance was brutal... good god
I thought it was pretty darn good. Bruce likes to sing with that twang sometimes. Ever hear Bruce do the acoustic rendition of Born in the U.S.A.? Even his guitar was twangy in that one.
Agree
I really like springsteen version 👍😊
