In the city where I live, there's a fairly popular art museum that would do free admission on the first Friday of the month (before Covid). Speaking of Dylan lyrics, one line that I've thought about this past year is from "Sweetheart Like You". "Patriotism is the last refuge to which a scoundrel clings." It reminds me of a certain someone we all know.
I like his analogy of a band being like a ship. Very true. And his bit about the car with "all the yous" is the best description of life experience. A smart man, and a great story teller. I think he qualifies for Dolly Parton's title of "Storyteller".

Hey Bruce, it's nice to reconnect with you and your music. I have many many great stories about hearing and even playing your music. One day in 1979, I was hanging out with some friends on the balcony across the street. There was a real heavy rainstorm presence in the area around Calgary but we were sheltered with a roof and comfortable. A friend and I were singing Born to Run and really hitting it up. We were approaching the climax of the refrain, "Baby we were born to . . . " and there was a monstrous bolt of lightning right there and then so we couldn't hear ourselves sing "RUN!" That's ok -- I hate posts where the comments are all fanatical supporters, like Jordan Peterson where you get bumped off with a hint of criticism. Really appreciate your comment. No-one is perfect; I was very moved by The Kennedy Center Honours for Bruce when he sat beside Michelle Obama and was totally overwhelmed; very human. I know he celebrates 50 yrs of his group but heh he put out way more single albums than Tom Petty who I keep bringing up who truly would have been bereft without a band even during the Jeff Lynne period. I am not convinced Springsteen was as attached as Tom but that's life.
I love the comment on listening to the whole album. Indeed the experience of the artist and the music is deeper and the memories flood back each time you put on an album of a season past.
No question Dylan is the consummate surrealist poet. Mr Tamborine Man taken up by The Byrds has to be part of our public shared musical landmarks. He has inspired so many great artists justifiably, but he's not God and had some seriously shitty periods and I would hate to have him for a father, don't know how Jacob Dylan turned out to be such a sane brilliant musician In His Own Write to quote John .Lennon.
@@Chapps1941 yeah as you may know Dylan says a lot of things...John Lennon said Abbey Road was junk...Brahms tore up an entire symphony...and came close to doing the same for his piano concerto in D minor...what a loss that would have been!

I would have to pick the "hurricane" as my favorite Dylan song, I imagine Bruce would approve ? I feel like I have known Bruce since my 1970s HS days. He's important to me, no other way to put it.
Well it would tie in with their shared political conscience, so yeah. I also grew up with his music since the '70s so I get it; just don't want to one of those guys who say to people who have just discovered something, well I was there at the beginning so I have special rights which in no way are you saying at all! Great comment.
Except Lay Lady Lay has to be in the top 3 or it is not the top 3. I was just a kid, and way too young to understand lyrics about big brass brass beds and morning light when I first heard that song. Yet it blew me away. Sounded so different. So unique. It opened my mind to the fact that there was an alternative to 'ordinary music'. Not talking about the lyric. Just the sound/music. And simple has its own elegance. Stay lady stay, stay with your man a while.

Bruce Springsteen is one of the few people that can laugh without moving his face! 🤘
Botox possibly?
@@david-pb4bi it looks like his skin is pulled back. ..a facelift I think.
Greetings from Asbury park. I got my record in Australia imported from Seattle when I was 14. It's hard to be a saint in the city bent my brain.
Whoohoo yes!
The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle must be listened to from beginning to end. It's not just an album. It's a song cycle.
Love his metaphor - having himself in a car - the 23 year old, the 40 year old, and all versions of himself - and having the 70 year old now giving voice to all of his selves. Not bragging but I was named after visions of Johanna. 💕
Love his laugh! Keeps me strong! I do my exercises to "Born to run"!!
Wow!! Bruce.. Hit it on the nail, with time traveling thing, within you at moments.. Genius.. So true!! Forever young at spirit and soul.. ❤🌿🙏😎👍.. Much respect to you Sr. Rock and Roll.. Lifestyle
He’s matured like a fine wine that gets better with age.and decanted boss has some of the sweetest songs I’ve ever heard in my life. Thanks dude!
i think those songs he wrote in early 70's were his best, funny how he says he is sorry he abandoned it so soon
Bruce is a very intelligent person. I hope he and his entire crew and Roadies live well and peaceful lives. Thank you Bruce
Colbert is the perfect host for a Springsteen interview. I love how he asks full questions and explains everything to the audience.
YOU are ONE heck of a conduit there Mr. Bruce Springsteen receiver transmitter!
I see THE RISING!!!
I thank Our Creator for YOU, your connection with the BOSS!!!
Has seen M3 through some mighty dark times to where NOW I FEEL THE LIGHT, I FEEL THE LOVE, AND SEE THE RISING!!! It brought M3 to my knees when I first heard it, first time in April of this year. When YOU were finished, I made a vow to get up from my knees and STAND for the ONE that sent YOU, AWESOME ✌🙏🏿🙏🏼🙏🏽❤🖤💙
His voice attracts others. Blend together.
I love Like A Rolling Stone too! Also Mr. Tambourine Man and others. Dylan's a clear inspiration for Bruce.
"You've got a lotta nerve. To say you are my friend." - My favorite Dylan opener.
That song's loaded with good lines. "I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes-- you'd know what a drag it is to see you."
@@frigginjerk yep love that line
Bruce i was never a great fan but he is a real guy, gotta love him
That's ok -- I hate posts where the comments are all fanatical supporters, like Jordan Peterson where you get bumped off with a hint of criticism.
Imagine Lana making Bruce references in her songs as a fan, and now Bruce is talking about her! Wow.
Pretty cool 😎
What is a Lana?
Was anticipating him to be talking then outta nowhere go
!TWO! !THREE! !FOUR!
🎶 Nowhere to run 🎶
I love the comment on listening to the whole album. Indeed the experience of the artist and the music is deeper and the memories flood back each time you put on an album of a season past.
Top 3 Bruce songs:
Thunder Road
10th Ave Freeze Out
The River
You gave me shivers. I think I agree!!!!!!
"to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, silhouetted by the sea"
circled by the circus sands, with all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
My favorite verse from that song!
Here is a forgotten Dylan song, so moving and sung with such tenderness:
BALLAD IN PLAIN D !
Dylan says he was a schmuck for writing it.
@@Chapps1941 yeah as you may know Dylan says a lot of things...John Lennon said Abbey Road was junk...Brahms tore up an entire symphony...and came close to doing the same for his piano concerto in D minor...what a loss that would have been!
@@tenisalot was he not more referring to the acerbic nature of the topic of the song?
Oh, the union central is pullin' out
The orchids are in bloom
I've only got me one good shirt left and it smells of stale perfume
In fourteen months I've only smiled once and I didn't do it consciously
Somebody's got to find your trail
I guess it must be up to me
Adore that song
it should have been on blood on the tracks. superb track.
"Hey, Mister Tangerine Man,
Be responsible for me.
I can't breath,
And there is life i'm clingin' to!"
listen to "The Greatest" by Lana Del Rey
Amazing song
i love how regularly he praises lana, in fact she's also repeatedly praised springsteen throughout her career which many know and is beautiful. legends appreciating each other.
I had dismissed her as a shallow pop princess. Guess I got to go listen now.
@@jamesmccormick211 Shallow pop princess? You couldn't have been more wrong
@@jamesmccormick211 lmao, Lana as a pop artist 😂😂😂
I would have to pick the "hurricane" as my favorite Dylan song, I imagine Bruce would approve ? I feel like I have known Bruce since my 1970s HS days. He's important to me, no other way to put it.
Well it would tie in with their shared political conscience, so yeah. I also grew up with his music since the '70s so I get it; just don't want to one of those guys who say to people who have just discovered something, well I was there at the beginning so I have special rights which in no way are you saying at all! Great comment.
I'm not particularly a fan of Springsteen, but this clip is worth it for that excellent and accurate description of consciousness.
Agreed! His reflection about all the “yous in the car” was something I’ve been needing to hear.
What a boring interview!
@@matthewhartt5887 I don’t know what you were watching but Bruce is not known for exciting interviews I thought Stephen did a great job here!

Such a lovely heart...such a lovely man. Forgiveness...The love outweighs the differences.❤️❤️
They are all YOU! You evolve...my gosh if you stayed as you were at 20...you wouldn't be who you are today! Like minds!❤️
Jungleland is my heart..
My fav Springsteen songs are usually not the damn athems:
Dancing in the Dark, Rosalita, Atlantic City, Prove it all Night, Hungry Heart, Tunnel of Love, Murder Inc . Bruce i rate a 7
Dylan's best for me: Most Likely to go your way and I'll go Mine, You're a Big Girl Now, Positively 4th street, like a Rolling Stone, Stuck inside of Memphis.., Girl from the North Country, I threw it all away, Knocking on Heavens Door, Subterranean Homesick blues . Dylan I rate a 9 1/2

“It depends on how I’mmmmm a feelin” surely

I listen to whole albums over and over - Dylan and Queen mostly.
Good choice. I re-read books over and over again, listen to music -- have an acquaintance who doesn't get it their loss!!
The Lana Del Rey album he mentioned is Norman Fucking Rockwell. Shame on RUclips for censoring The Boss. There are some things you just don't do, You Fucking Tube!

The last album I listened to all the way through was Nebraska. The story that weaves its way through that album I never tire of listening to.
First Dylan line that comes to me: "If today, was not an endless highway" ("Tomorrow is a long time" -- but only the Elvis-sung version).
Inspired by the Odetta version
ruclips.net/video/KPyCJIPtJps/видео.html
So many amazing songs, impossible to just choose three, but I'll say Just like Tom Thumb's Blues, Sign on the Window, and Going to Acapulco.
My favorite is the river. I prefer listening to whole albums then singles, but i am definitely old school and Bruce's age.
The screen doors slams, Mary’s dress waves
Like a vision, she dances across the porch, while the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely...hey that’s me and I want you to hold me...
My top 3 Dylan songs are:
1. It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)
2. Red River Shore
3. Desolation Row
~ “Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred”
~Dylan
The 3 so you don't have to scrub through the video
1. Like A Rolling Stone
2. Visions of Joanna
3. Ring Them Bells
First Dylan line that comes to his head:
"Once upon a time/A girl so fine
/Threw the bums a dime in their prime, didn't you?" [although the line is actually "Once upon a time you dressed so fine/Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?"]
We learned more from a three minute record baby then we ever learned in school. 😊
Favorite Dylan:
Masters of War
Just like Tom Thumbs Blues
If You See Her, Say Hello
"I try my best to be just like I am
But everyone wants you to be just like them"
Good grief, this man will ALWAYS be a true Poet Laureate of the USA & World... the re-tracking of “If I Were A Priest” on the new album is one of his Top 10 best songs. 🔥🤟🏼
Not more tender but confident and brave enough to show your tenderness and generous enough to forgive others and tolerate minor behaviours in others. But also more likely to call out idiots.......
Visions Of Johanah (Free Trade Hall)
Desolation Row (Studio)
Not Dark Yet (Studio)
add ballad of a thin man/ like a rolling stone from free trade hall. simply stunning.
Mr Tambourine Man, It's alright Ma, My Back Pages, Like a rolling stone. Love the line "a self ordained professors' tongue to serious to fool" reminds me of many professors I had - but I was so much older then I'm younger than that now.
