- We had a RX8 in with a cracked radiator top tank. thought we would make this video to share some of the process in removing and replacing the defective part. - Real Deal Radiators
The oil in the intake is normal but if there’s a lot it is usually due to overfilling. If you install an oil catch can this will keep oil from getting into any of the intake areas.
i actually have the same problem and replacing it tomorrow! thanks for the video helped out alot actually
Ohhhh had the sane issue.. Broke from the same spot! So you can just buy the top of the radiator.. Too bad alrady order mine but i learned how to take it off. Thanks
I gonna replace my alternator this weekend cause the one I have is kind of old and is starting leaking by between that plastic thing on top and the aluminum. I gonna get the one is all aluminum. Without plastic. And well I'm watching your video because I have not idea about how to do it. I mean. This is my first rx8 and looks so hard to fix. Not only radiator. U mean at all 😢 thanks
Darn I needed to see the steps in taking out the coolant overflow reservoir I hear the plastic nipple is easy to break off from the radiator is there any tips or tricks to get it off without breaking and can you show more of what you are doing please thanks
Shouldn't be hard, when removing any hoses just twist them first to loosen them and pull them off in the direction of removal Dont wiggle them or apply force in any other direction other than outwards .
I don't usually post negative stuff but where is the radiator removed? Its pictures from the top and the bottom repeated and then MAGIC its out? I wish mine would remove itself.
well if you cant work that out then you should take the vehicle to a garage.
Great video, just shame your lens was a bit dirty/misty!
It's a new pump maybe the houses or thermostat is backwards or doesn't work
thanks, well done.
I don't know anyone here in South Florida that repairs aluminum radiators.
What was the total time to do the job minus time to repair the radiator, itself ?
Thanks, id say around 3 hours that includes removing the radiator, Refitting it and running the engine checking its operating correctly test/looking for any leaks. It is more difficult to remove than the average vehicle so make sure you have plenty of time and just take your time with it.
+1 for using the song from the cool spot 7-up game for sega genesis
Where did you get the bike rack on top?
It was not our car sorry,.. Just a customers car
my girlfriends broke in same spot have to fix tomorrow
I have a question about the intake tray. Can that safely be removed without negatively affecting the temperatures under the hood? It is situated in a way that looks like it acts as a guide for air flow from the fans underneath. Can this be removed? My aftermarket intake doesn't use it and it is just dead weight at the moment.
Why at the minute 16:42 you did that ? Can I just refill the coolant tank?
Where can i get that part and whats it called please. Mine just burst and I almost just bought a whole new radiator ? have you got a part number I could please have.
Its the Radiator top plastic tank, It is best a Radiator shop fits the new tank to the radiator for you.. no partnumber sorry
OMG! I got the exact same problem! I think I'll order an aftermarket all aluminum radiator so it won't happen again!
Make sure you get a good brand otherwise you may have other problems. a new tank will last many years.
RD Radiators I actually just went back to OEM since I could get it right away. Thanks for the video...it was helpful!!
Does this replacement require a flush and replacement of the air conditioner coolant? Dealer is telling me it does.
The most important part, the actual step of removing the radiator, which is what I'm having trouble with, was skipped in the video... Any instructions would be appreciated!
John Abassian the air conditioning unit is unbolted and moved out of the way (still stays connected) when radiator is loose it just comes out the bottom,. was unable to record,.. making the video and couldn't hold cam and remove rad at the same time..
Where can you get the top tank? Rx8barb
Where could I get this part shipped to canada?
do they sell this top tank separately?
Yea that's to far from Cali yea my Mazda rx8 has been over heading but it has a new radiator and engine idk what's up with it but it over heats and then cools down when I'm at a full stop
Jio Hernandez It may be your pump. Or you could have some faulty hoses, too.
is there a cheaper alternative I can use for radiator fluid instead of the fl22 fluid mazda recommends? it's expensive and I always have to add new fluid. my sensor goes off all the time... please help!!
Any good brand coolant will do just as long as you fully flush out any old fluid before replacing
Why is important to keep the power connected to an alternative battery will you're working on.??
Jimmy Hernandez So you don't lose any radio settings/clock settings etc also some vehicles inc some of the RX8's will need to re-learn how to idle again if power is lost the the computer.
+Alian X It went bad from using an alternative battery or for not using one?
Screw clamps is NOT a proper clamps for a cooling system.
Use only spring clamps!
Only spring clamps can keep tension in wide temperature range.
Why do you keep power to the car? Just curious..
Some of the RX-8 can lose there Idle memory and the computer needs to re learn how to Idle, not a big problem if you disconnect. Also keeps any radio settings the customer may have.
donde puedo comprar esa pieza!!!!saludos
+carlos ramos Hi, ask your local radiator shop they should be able to help.
where you guys located at
crap, my battery has been disconnected for a week. What's the chance that it will mess up the car? I have worked on my radiator yet, I will today. Is it too late to correct the problem? please help
It wont mess up the car chances are it wont cause any problem at worst the car may need to relearn how to idle again, think it takes approx 20mins not sure.
I did some research on the forums. Yeah, it just take time to relearn it
So my Rx8 overheated. I replaced the radiator and and thermostat. The motor cranks but won't turn over. I didn't keep power to the car. What are your suggestions?
+Paris Larkin maybe look up how to de-flood the engine and try that. because the engine still should start normally just some of them wont idle properly for little while.
I had my first attempt trying to de-flood the engine. I am going to attempt again tomorrow. I have had to de-flood her before and it took forever.
+Paris Larkin Yeap has happened to me as well bit of a worrie when it happened does take ages for them to start. most important thing is to not crank them to long each wind as the starter motor can get overheated.
+RD Radiators (CustomRD) thanks for the tips!! I'll let you know what the outcome is.
Last question I promise. Did you disconnect a hoes after you assembled everything back together? I saw around 16:40 there was one disconnected while you filled the reservoir. And I filled the reservoir twice and it has not kept coolant in it. There isn't a leak or anything that I can see.
Hi there , where could I get this part ?
Geo Gig Most radiator shops should be able to supply and fit this part.
Thank you for your reply , could you let me know a supplier's site ?
Mine has heaps of oil too.
Miia Raven add an oil catch can. Cost about $20 and very easy to install.
