First time I saw that light on my old 8, I was just cruising at a high rpm and was like WTF, why is there a Lincoln memorial building light on in my cluster. Wankels and low coolant aren't a mix I'm willing to hope for the best on :p Damn, I thought I was going to take a break from rotaries (and Mazda in general, incompetent dealerships, throw my local Honda dealer under the bus with this as well) ... but between you and Rob Dahm, I have an itch I'm too broke to afford to scratch :p I want an 8, FC, FD, NA/NB Miata ... bastards! @@TheSlipAngle you know what! about 2 weeks ago I got in the car and the radiator light was on. I opened the tank and it was half empty. No we had about 3 days work of 100⁰F days on a row so since it was leaking anywhere else I thought ok....maybe it was hot enough in there to open the radiator cap and flow out the drip tube....but I honestly don't know.
When I did mine I also did new silicone hoses at the same time.......long store short I ended up having to replace the radiator, I went with a missimoto radiator and missimoto fans.
I don’t find any videos showcasing longer overflow hose routing to not dump coolant at PS relay or in your case at the level sensor connector. Please do a video for documentation sake
lol only just got my rx8 here in Australia and have been watching the videos and doing similar mods to mine. thanks for the awesome and fun content love how its getting shit done but having a laugh at the same time. oh and thanks for the blood shed mat.
Reached out to Bennett Built Performance for this upgraded reservoir, they processed my order and charged my card, but never delivered and never responded to any of my emails or phone calls. Would not recommend
Hey this sadly just happen to me as well, did he ended up delivering or should i just give up? He said he “shipped it” but its been a week and the tracking info still says that usps does not have the item
@@TheSlipAngle nice. We also purchased one from BB but my son & I are still waiting for the warmer temp to arrive. It's kinda PIA when you don't have a heated garage.
I didnt have a good experience with Bennett personally i think at this point i been scam, purchase thru his website and its been to weeks and he wont reply to my emails and the item still hasn’t shipped :(. Im extremely disappointed because i really like the design on the tank
The Slip Angle - and there in lies the design flaw of this tank. As cool as it looks, I’d rather get a new Mazda unit and spray paint the top Black while leaving the sides clear to view coolant level. Oh btw, oh my 04 RX-8, I just cut off the sensor to eliminate the dash light and said, SCREW THE LEVEL FLOAT.
Is it really a flaw though? If coolant gets low for some reason the sensor will indicate it for you. I check fluids when I do routine maintenance anyways. For me this is not a big deal. To each their own.
@@TheSlipAngle yeah I haven't installed mine yet but just ordered the oem. I like being able to see the level without having to open the cap and I keep hearing these things leak one way or another. Just installed mine. Somehow my OEM cap refused to give me an easy installation. I had to push down the cap so hard to get it aligned...BTW, is it necessary to twist the cap all the way in CW direction?
Michael Zachary - why dump money into a new engine when there’s a chance that yours is fine and just needs new ignition components. Lol. As a rotary owner, you NEED to have a compression tester on hand to KNOW the health of the engine. It’s very easy to see the loss in compression as it ages and wears down. This allows you to plan accordingly and KNOW that your engine will be toast soon and prepare for a swap.
I agree with Artem. To add, I am pretty sure a lot of the 04-05 cars had their engines replaced when they just needed coils. Something also along the lines of the throttle body not opening via the DBW played a factor in this as well.
I'm sorry I called them idiots!. If you know about rx8s it's real easy to Install that product, pull battery box out,and the complete intake breather assembly!.. it only takes about 20 minutes!,, be aware nubies..if not careful, plastic parts can break pulling apart intake components!
Once agian..even pros need to be mindful or the bottom hose! It's a plastic nipple, fused directly into the radiator!.. if you snap it off flush ,you might as well order a new radiator!
Might no have been the most professional job but it was damn entertaining!
Lol
Nothing better than car mods with good friends! Blood makes the process, almost dare I say, sacred.
Absolutely Ian!
Honestly can't think of a better word for it!
great video as always!!! still don't know why this channel hasn't blown up yet its such a good channel keep up the rx8 vids man

Oh sure. NOW Bennet makes one. I bought a Moroso tank a while back for 195. It's polished aluminum
I got the same tank even in black. When I changed mine I did new silicon hoses, mishimoto radiator and mishimoto fan shroud at the same time.
Does yours leak too? I think I'm going back to stock.

just ordered one for my 06 rx8, thanks for the vid!
1- I appreciate the sacrifice
2- I love the vid
3- Thanks for revealing how to run cooler! 🤣

I just ordered one hope it fits my 2005 Mazda Rx8 manual transmission. ✌🏼 previous one melted from the cap and all the coolant came out lol
It's not a project car until it's been bled in. Glad everyone is ok. That Bennett built part looks awesome in the bay.

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but why couldn't you just stick something in there to get the float unstuck?
It's the sensor that fails

Any coolant leaks at the sensor area for the Bennett built reservoir?
No leaks there
👍 all it takes is a little blood, nuts and coolant to get the job done.
Here here lol
If the little radiator light keeps coming on, but your coolant is still full...just disconnect the sensor...done.
Pas mal le réservoir de refoidissement tout alu j'aime bien👍👍👍👍
How do you keep an eye on your coolant level with the new tank? Nice install tho!

No, but this can seems to get pressurized too easily and dumps coolant out the overflow.

Yeah the cap fitment is tight. Mine took a bit of effort as well.

If you have hot start failure get a compression test done with a rotary compression tester, before you buy anything. Assuming yours is still rotary
I second what Jake says.

Just fill it up close to the top. No high or low mark.
