What can I say im a simple man, I see new RX-8 content and I click.
Cheers!
Agreed!
Finally RX8 content ! More plz
Agreed!
Best part about it, is it's functional, an improvement, and looks OEM+, like it was meant to be that way.
YES! RX8 content!
New 05 sunlight silver owner here. Love the content.
I am glad you are still making content on the rx-8
More rx8 content please. I’ve missed this car on your channel.
I would love to see that RX8 get supercharged! We have one in our group and its awesome, the sound of supercharger and rotary revs is sublime.
What supercharger does he have? I really wanted a Rotrex SC kit but no one makes them anymore :(
@@TheSlipAngle He has the Pettit Racing supercharger kit on it, very hard to find one these days, he actually imported it from the USA though as we live in Australia
Sits flush. Nice and oem looking 👌
I’m here for the dyno comparison between the RX-8 and the Supra.
Double whatever the Rx8 is at
lol
I am the same way. I put andriod auto in my frontier and now hoping back in a GD sti it's like.. Well I guess I gotta put in a head unit now. Really just covers that need real nice.
I just did this a month ago to my daily driven 03 G35 coupe I've had for 8 years. It was quite the project given the install is even more involved than this one. No less than 6 interior panels have to come out. You have to jamb in steering wheel control box, differential signal convertor, and radio harness along with mic, gps and xm antennas. But all said and done it was absolutely worth it. Great way to help modernize an older but otherwise good running vehicle.
No need for separate steering wheel control boxes anymore with modern head units. You just wire the harness and map the steering wheel buttons in head unit settings.
@@assumingctrl The vast majority of aftermarket units still require the use of external steering wheel controls
@@theripper121 Not true.
@@assumingctrl Cars of this vintage in this video ...yes they absolutely do. Not sure why you are assuming you don't need them. I just shopped for a new head unit very few of them could translate the steering wheel controls without an external steering wheel control box.
@@theripper121I installed an aftermarket head unit and a Metra Kit in my RX8 and I have functional steering wheel controls without an additional access box. 😂😂😂
I hate to break it to you, but if you had Bose before pulling the radio out, you still have Bose after replacing it. The radio is not what amplifies the sound, its not even made by Bose as far as i know. There is a small amp in the trunk that powers the speakers (which are also Bose). You certainly gained car-play and other features with this upgrade, but I doubt there is any improvement in sound quality without replacing the speakers and amplifier.
This absolutely improved the sound performance of the Bose. That is no BS, 100% noticeable improvement in sound and quality. You still utilize the OEM AMP in the trunk.
Garage is looking good man, i’m glad you’re out daily driving the Rx8.
I would like to pick up a stock one to drive around during the summer since mine doesn’t have have AC anymore.
About to slap some RpF1s on mine.
Glad to see you back, spring will be here soon
Thanks man! It feels good to be back :)
Been looking for a head unit for my 04 rx8 to give it a nice update in sound and modern features. Could you possibly list the model of head unit and other parts you used to make this work?
Thx for the video Quinn! 🙌🏼
Anytime! Thanks for watching!
More rx8 content!!!!
Oh yes!
No need for separate steering wheel control boxes anymore with modern head units. You just wire the harness and map the steering wheel buttons in head unit settings.
I have got the same set-up in my mx5, but i have got an extra wireless adaptor thing that makes it wireless, do recommend, its called aawireless if you're interested, its only £60 so why not right lol, granted it takes like 5 seconds for it to connect every time i start the car.
That's awesome! I'll check them out for sure
Quinn, now that you've driven both the LFX and a rotary RX8, whats your thoughts between the two? What kind of people should go for the swap, and who should avoid it?
If you end up doing anything extreme engine wise, it would be interesting to see what those hybrid renesis builds that I’ve seen around RUclips could do. Turbo charged or naturally aspirated
Great to see rx8 content. But, how goes supra updates?
Supra landed ;) Videos will be coming soon
Hmmm... I might have to upgrade the radio in the R3 now...🤔. Although i care less about improving sound quality and more about controlling driving cameras.....
11:32 I used to think Bose made good stereo stuff also. I had a 05 Corvette with the factory Bose sound system in it and it was horrible. That experience completely changed my mind about the brand.
Bose has never been good, especially not their OEM solutions. They were a step above stock stereos in the early 2000s but for the price of the upgrade at the dealer you could get an aftermarket system that was worlds better. More recent OEM systems have made improvements, but they still don't sound good when you turn the volume up.
What did you connect the display cable to?
spooky this...
my bose amp ..has just recently died on my speed 3(MPS)
mega money for a new one...currently getting it fixed..
10 speakers as standard though... but I've uprated front tweeters to improve the sound stage....
I dont have Apple anything..apart fom a tree in the garden..
can relate though change the vehicle....untill tuneeeeees sorted...
N x
Hello how have you liked the RX8 as a daily i own a z rn thinking about getting a rx8 because its a little bigger :)
Gr8 little upgrade. That outro though 🤔
Can you do a video showcasing Versatune software for the RX8 maybe even a dyno session with the bolt ons you have.
I have since installed an Adaptronic standalone. The piggy back / flash tunes don't seem to give you enough control over the factor parameters.
Can you write link to buy it? My stereo dont give any sound and i think its anti thieft code, this code lose by last owner and i think to buy a screen
Mannnn you got the Supra sitting in your garage and you’re giving us some pioneer kenwood action??? Come onnnn mayyyyyne
This video was filmed before the Supra. In due time, it's all coming this year ;)
What’s that front lip called?
2:40 Person who owned my daily driver (not RX-8) before me put a Sony XAV-AX1000 in. Honestly, having everything but changing tracks and an option button not as a physical button totally makes sense unless you're running your audio off of bluetooth or an aux cord. With those options, you'd have to be using a weird non-Carplay setup on a Carplay head unit, and you'd absolutely want physical buttons on the head unit for that. Carplay already has the touch integration for changing tracks, so you're essentially building redundancy in case the entire screen failed...which in that case I'd probably attempt to fix the screen or get a new head unit.
I had never bothered with steering wheel controls until I gave in and upgraded my 2015 Wrangler with an Alpine CarPlay unit. I hate that it doesn't have a volume knob, and I can never hit the small buttons they give me on the bottom of the unit with accuracy (certainly not with gloves on). So I resort to the track up/down volume up/down on the back side of the steering wheel. One of these days I'll put a processor in that has its own volume knob. People like knobs, why doesn't the industry get that?
@@chrishuyler3580 Yeah that's also why I'm confused this was the one he picked. Mine has a small volume knob on the left side that I can tune without looking off the road. It just makes sense!
I wanted a shallow head unit because of the adapter box and cables that I knew I'd be dealing with. The only head units that Crutchfield had with volume knobs were no name brands I've never heard of.
@@crimesguy Volume knobs are virtually non-existent for double din head units now. Only a few cheap brands offer them on Crutchfield. Major brands like Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc just give you a big screen with touch buttons along the bottom.
@@chrishuyler3580 Mine’s not offered on Crutchfield anymore, but still offered at Best Buy and other retailers. It’s definitely still on the market. It’s unfortunate that hood button design is losing steam for bigger screen space.
Does it use the amps already in the car or just the one in the head unit?
OEM AMP stays in place so I would imagine they are both utilized at that point.
Where did you get those rx8 side view mirrors?
Arauz Motoring. They are Ganadors
@@TheSlipAngle I can't find their storefront . I can't seem to find any purchase links ?
I wanna know how you got a pristine glove box top on that thing lol mines all cracked to hell n back
We talk about this in the next RX-8 video that we are going to release lol
@@TheSlipAngle yesss! can't wait!
I had to just completely replace mine
@@fabiolean i might have to go that route..its ugly as heck lol
Lost a few pounds👍, what's next? Maybe the seats?
Mine blew up so can't say much about it besides how slow it and boring it looks it would be infinitely better with an rew swap which is probably something I'll end up doing with one if I dare wrestle with an rx8 again.
