And not a SINGLE one of these has a good old fashioned ROTARY VOLUME KNOB. Can't believe these car stereo manufacturers aren't picking up on the fact that everyone HATES the push button style volume controls.
Wished i’d found this video at the start of my journey of looking into head units, as opposed to the end of it! I’ve spent many evenings looking at many dozens of websites to determine the way forward. What is in this video pretty much sums up my findings. A well presented summary, without all the guff and marketing!

I have a $2000 Kenwood hero unit in one of my vehicles. Half of the features have been depricated due to changes with android. It also refuses to auto start Android Auto. I also have a $120 PLZ in my Miata (because I didnt want to have an expensive deck in my convertible). Guess which one works better software wise? Never wasting money on expensive head units ever again.
Sony xav ax7000 and android auto is a pita sounds great but still pita. Probably gonna go with something that doesn't limit or control what I can and cannot do,maybe a joying or dudu auto 7? Gotta check more into them first .
Awesome video, really really good. I was inclined to buy the Alpine ILX-705D but when i saw your in-depth video I was a little disappointed as the Android Auto is only WIRED connection (during this video you said it was wireless carplay and android auto, but it's only wired) I've checked your website and it does say it's wired, only the US version (ILX-507) has both wired and wireless. Nonetheless, great video, now I'm more inclined towards the Sony XAV AX-6050, beautiful head unit, very minimalistic, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to audio, but I've heard good things about the Sony. Cheers!
I need something that has a bright screen. My Sony 6000 is very dim and can barely see it in the sun. My pioneer DMH7600nex is really nice in the sun and I can see it just fine
As with all this high tech, it’s only when you fit them that you realise what really matters. I’ve had a DMX7017DABS for a number of years and on bright days, I can barely read the screen. It would be nice to have wireless Apple CarPlay and a unit that can handle the glare.
These double dins look good, might look further at the JVC KW-M875DBW, considering installing a rearview camera for my brothers car. Thank you for the review Blayde, very informative!
I'm not very knowledgeable about this kind of equipment but one thing that annoys me with my current Bluetooth head unit is it takes some time after start up to connect with my phone (and I don't want to connect it via wires). Is there an option out there for a head unit with internal storage? That way I could download my songs directly into the head unit and not have to worry about connecting to anything before listening to them (also would guarantee that I don't lose my music when my phone is on low battery)
Some will read music off usb stick, that's what I did in my old car that had a pioneer touch screen head unit with a usb port on the front, a tiny usb stick that was only maybe 5mm high so you couldn't even really see it when plugged in, put my music on that
I'm completely new to all this. Does this work in any old car or how do you figure out the compatibility? I'm getting and old Lexus LS 600hL from 2008. Can I just install any of these advices? Great video. Thanx
Hey guys, I recently got the sony xav-ax6050 and I am very happy with it. Soap water got into the screen (open window in the washing machine, stupid me!) and now there is some fog/rainbow marks inside of the screen, possibly between the lcd and the touch panel. What to do?? And the phonelink with my iphone 13 won’t work when connected to the usb c port on the back (tho connected without the sony usb c extension cabel, is that the reason why? Thanks
Great guide. I’m looking to upgrade a 9th Gen (2014) Civic that currently has a stock Clarion type B with Navigation. Which of these would be most compatible with my existing tech & wiring? Thanks.
What ever happened to 4 volt pre amp outs? On board GPS WITHOUT a paid subscription. I just want something that has a great file viewer for my 100 gigs of music
Good radios but too expensive. There are several alternatives under $500. Considering the insane car theft these days, who wants to throw away $800-$1,000K in a car radio??
Hello, friend! I am a staff member of ATOTO Excel. Our company is recently launching several new products. If you are interested in car stereos, you can reply to me and we can get in touch. I will send you our products for experience.
Man i used to work in a retail store that sold these equipments back in 2017, they all still look the same or at least very simialir in the UI department. Quite sad none of these companies step up or have the drive to redesign their UI to make it more inuitive / visually appealing.
It's 2024 and not one major OEM mentioned here has a full Android headunit on the market. You'd think Sony, maker of Android phones, would dabble with a full Android Automotive headunit to test the market.
Use to be a huge Apline fan boy. I got and was so excited about the Halo 9 when it came out. First floater on the market. It was so disappointing. The final straw for me was that Alpine had zero provision to make a software update. They rushed it to market and denied its problems and they could not be patched.. a big F you to the consumer.
I purchased an Alpine ILX705 D and Sony XAV AX5650 at the same time for two of my vehicles. The Alpine is a serious disappointment IMO. It only beats the Sony in slightly better sound quality and that's it. Terrible glossy screen that smudges easily and is not very responsive. It freezes when you do fine adjustments on the EQ or Crossover settings with moments of silence between each touch on the screen. No dimmer wire, so you have to manually set your day/ night mode or the sensors on the front get confused whenever you pass under lights at night or switch your overhead light on. The Sony is a pleasure compared to the Alpine.
I understand some people still look for the corporate names, but many of the chinese android head units are better than any of these and much more customizable. And they cost less.
@@florider_hd @florider_hd I have the atoto a6 and pretty happy with it. I bought it with the backup cam on the jungle site, then bought the dash cam on ebay. It's in a 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee fwiw. Wireless Android Auto worked out of the box, full access to the google play store, and the ability to play youtube podcasts while driving makes this a much better deal, and I spent less than 300 total. It has a dual bluetooth connection which uses my cell phone's internet as the head units internet, while still having the bluetooth connection for audio or phone calls as needed.
One is audio quality. You cant get good audio quality with android players. Second the OS itself. Most android players come with old android 12 and their performance is tied to RAM and processor they use. think of it like smartphone. Will get slow and laggy over time.
