I just had this happen today on my 2009. When I went to remove the piece of pipe still stuck in the hose, it completely disintegrated. I guess after 14 years the plastic degrades with the heat. Glad it happened in my driveway and not on the road. That sort of failure could ruin your engine pretty quick. Replacing the radiator with an all-aluminum Koyo. No more plastic garbage.

Good informative video. Regrettably, rusted bolts are a fact of life. Having the right tools to get them out does sometimes involve a circular saw. At least they weren't broken off in the engine block.
Thanks, glad you liked it :) True that... Hopefully i had plenty stressful experiences in the past that made me buy all the necessary tools to remove any rusted, rounded or welded bolts and nuts. Thank god i didn't have that experience yet.
my man, I'm trying to replace the radiator in my 06 now and thought it'd be a pretty straightforward job, guess I should have known with it being an rx8 it'd not be lol. easy enough though, with the help of this video I see what I need to do so thanks... 5 years later lol. I'm off now though, to see if you have any videos of the car on track and how you like drifting it.
If you have a stuck bolt,,,get a small propane torch most hardware stores have them for $14 and liquid wrench. Torch it spray,,,torch it spray it. Tighten it losen it and repeat until the bolt wants to act right, breaking bolts or stripping bolts on any job makes the job 100 times harder.

Driven by madness I wanna ask you something... Left of the steering wheel there is a panel with buttons...the the full version of the 231 hp 8 has 3 or 4 ? I don't know if the headlights are adjustable
I did this mod 2 months ago, was only going to replace the hose's and the same thing happen to me with the plastic snapping off. So I purchase a Fenix alloy radiator and definitely a good mod to do.

Hey, bro. Cheers for putting this video up, hey. i had to do the same job on my RX-8, and your video showed me the steps to take. legend. except, i held the condenser up with zip ties. thank god i didn't need to bust out a grinder.

Man, a radiator install sure is a bitch on our cars! I won't lie, I had my KOYO aluminum radiator professionally installed because I didn't trust myself not to break off a bunch of those delicate little decade-old plastic connectors on all the crazy stuff you have to remove. A radiator refresh is definitely great for our cars though; I went with the triple-combo of a KOYO all-aluminum rad, a RE-Medy Series II style water pump, and RE-Medy upgraded thermostat from MazMart. Definitely cooled the 8 down a few degrees.

Mine is still in good shape, but still this would be really helpful when I need it.

Damn Kris, i see you had much struggle while Changing the intercooler and radiator, Zero Wing doesnt gave up easily on it huh? :) well, i have other problems... ill need to change coolant, (its already dark brown ew.. by the way i want to install blue silicone hoses) and my Clutch is slippin trough, wgich means, only slowy accelerating is possible... but Yuu-Chan needs rev's im puttin some money month by month aside to restore her chassis, got rust on the bottom, aswell at the right rear, inside the trunk in the factory welding... it needs to be replaced. Aswell i want ro zinkcoat my whole bottom, aswell as make a sealing from the inside with Mika Sanders :) still getting very expensive dough, but i dont want to give up on my beloved Yuu-Chan , greeting from her and me from germany, ill hope the best and always i stay tuned bud! #Brap #JustRotaryThings #RX8 #Z00MZ00M #JDM

This car will never be left alone, cause it has a very stubborn and perfectionist owner :D I see that your issues are mine also! I had in plan after summer to take care of the rust and chassis in general, before installing the bodykit. Hopefully i will have a video for the hoses, in case you should need it :) Without any doubt this will be expensive... for both of us, but if done properly, the car will be like new, and will last for a very long time. As long as it's done slowly, and saving money at a good rate, the investment will be worth while, and also we'll be happy because we get to eat 1 piece of bread more :D Greetings for a very summerish Slovenia :D Hope you can make it down here one summer to experience it!

This exact same thing just happened to my second rx8 lol. God those radiators are crap if you own this car just get it replaced with a good full aluminum one so you never have this problem and improve your extremely important cooling system.
What year is your rx8 ? I don’t have one yet but i subscribed because I’m interested in learning new things about this car, I’m in the process of getting a 2007 one

So i got a question, I have a 2005 rx8 and I'm not too savvy with newer vehicles as well as rotarys, I am familiar and understand how they work, but when it's warmed up fully it will not want to start for about another 20 mins or so. It just cranks and cranks, the lo get I wait, the faster it cranks over and will eventually start again, and I do rev it to 3k everytime before I the. It off, any suggestions to help? Also wants to die at idle if I have a/c on, had to push it way too many times on summer days lol. Anything is worth a try, thanks

why not put aliminum radiator ?
You ever see the prices for an rx8 aluminum radiator, like $400+. Personally I bought a $130 aluminum radiator off ebay. Believe it or not you can actually get a decent quality alum rad off ebay if you know what you're looking for. Look for the term vacuum brazed in the listing, most cheap alum rads get a bad rep because the tubes are epoxied on instead of brazed to lower costs. My rx8 never see's temps above 176° while moving and 189° while sitting at a stop light even with stock fans.
My radiator has just done exactly the same, that's rotten plastic for you, I tapped it and will put a metal threaded pipe in, and test it

You mean the thing in front of the radiator? That's the AC Condenser :)

Hey man, so the other day I was driving my RX8 on the highway and when I downshifted into 4th and began to accelerate, the RPMs shot up and then went back down to where they should be before the car would gain any speed. Im sure its the clutch but in low gears at low speeds it seems to drive normal. Clutch seems to grab ok when taking of from a stop aswell. Is it possible to need a new clutch even if It launches ok like that? The car is a 2008 and has around 150,000 kilometers on it. The engine has good compression.
Does that happen everytime or just that time?

Why remove the bumper cover?
Way easier to work on the radiator and access all bolts. + I can show you guys a better viewing angle, to make the video clear :)
