The house is situated in the hills near São Conrado beach, offering a picturesque setting surrounded by nature.
Studio Arthur Casas adopted a design philosophy that prioritized integrating the house with its natural surroundings, ensuring that every living space provided access to the stunning views of Rio's mountains and sea.
The owner's clear goal was to enjoy the stunning views of Rio's mountains and sea. As a long-time client of Studio Arthur Casas, a businessman and bachelor, he wanted to design a house from scratch with the architects, starting with selecting the right plot.
The chosen plot, situated in the hills near São Conrado beach, didn't offer a direct view of the sea, but the client was intrigued nonetheless. Arthur Casas assured him that they could achieve the desired view by integrating the social areas with the landscape.
The solution involved elevating the entrance, social areas, and pool to the second floor, above the guestrooms and service quarters, which were surrounded by a garden. This arrangement ensured that the spectacular views were accessible from all the living spaces.
Large glass panels were incorporated, sliding and concealing behind walls to blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. This design technique aimed to amplify the sense of space, despite conforming to conventional construction dimensions.
Additionally, a third floor, with smaller proportions, housed private dependencies like the master suite and home office, both oriented towards the horizon.
The choice of materials drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape, featuring local stone and cumaru wood. The interior design focused on comfort and casualness, blending Brazilian furniture with foreign elements to create a harmonious living space.
Carefully planned lighting design accentuates the architectural features of the house while also illuminating key outdoor areas such as the pool and garden. Soft, ambient lighting enhances the atmosphere, creating a warm and inviting environment.
