If you look at an Eels head and body, the head is a little smaller than the rest of the body. A Sea Snake, however, is different. Sea Snakes have the looks of a regular Snake on the surface, which means *their* head is slightly bigger, but not an Eel. An Eels head stays almost the same size as the rest of its body, all except for the slight flattening of the sides and the jaw. I’m going off of a Moray Eel anatomy, so this may vary.
So theres Anantashesha (3000). There's also Leviathan (169). Some sort of massive infectious tentcle sex monster coral (835). A giant Call of Cthulhu Eldritch horror that messes with space-time in the antarctic (2764). And Jormungandr (722) sleeping in a block of ice. I don't think there's enough real estate on this planet for these creatures! Edit: 169
In Hindi/Sanskrit the name makes all the more sense. Ananta - अनंत - Infinite Shesha - शेष - Remaining/Remainder So SCP-3000 will remain forever, even after the time itself ends. (Thank you the person below for correction.)

I think there's one phrase that perfectly sums up 3000's effects/what it means: "So this is how the world ends; not with a bang, but with a whimper." It perfectly sums up how it erases what it actually means to be human.

Maybe the eel does need food, but it's metabolism is so painfully slow that it only needs to feed once every 100 years, and the foundation is now overfeeding the thing without knowing what that might be doing to it.
It might be like the creature from the cartoon Power Puff Girls. The creature was genetically created to only need to eat once in its life. Because the three girls each fed the creature. It tricked the creatures mind. Into thinking it had to eat all the time.
"All… all I can see is darkness. There's a chill foul wind blowing, pushing me towards a brink I can't see... on the edge of the nothingness, inches from oblivion. There's a… there's a sickness in my mind that I know can't be cured. Beyond me is only blackness, and a single pair of dark eyes... silence, only silence, my consciousness coming undone and only and only and only... and only the eel remains." Reasons I love 3000: - Aquatic nightmare creatures are always awesome - It takes vital elements of good horror and stretches them to their maximum capacity. Especially two of them. The first is that, for something to evoke more emotion, sadness must be added to the fear. This particular SCP is _depressing as fuck._ It basically gives people dementia and, because it wasn’t heartbreaking enough to watch a scientist throw himself into its open maw in fear of being forgotten as he had forgotten others, it retains his memories and spreads them around. _Ouch._ - The second thing is the idea that all monsters must represent a common fear or flaw among people to be truly effective. In this case, the fear of being forgotten after death. 3000 _takes this and runs with it._ I’m sure most of us can see this fear reflected in ourselves. We can all picture ourselves losing our sanity before Anantashesha. Taking a flaw and making it a monster takes away the feeling of immunity. A lot of series 1 SCPs are less effective because they don’t use this. A large amount just read like “oh hey, it would be kind of scary if this existed, huh?” Hell, even 173 falls prey to this mistake. It’s alarming, but not haunting. You can look at a neck-snapping sculpture and say “that’s scary, good thing that it isn’t real” but with 3000, you can’t do that- maybe there’s no giant snake causing it, but the fear of being forgotten, of being irrelevant, is extremely real.
I love the tone the SCP wiki started to take going into the 2000s and beyond. There seemed to be this battle for awhile of writers trying to one up each other with shock value horror and then you get stuff like this that is just the author exploring their own mundane personal horrors.
i started writing my own scp a few years ago and it was originally just an anomalous item with a few addendums but i was pleasantly surprised by how supportive the community was to push you to your creative limit and write an actual story worth being on the website
The SCP personnel didn’t know why they were going down there? Well, you’re approaching an eel the size of country, at some point you’re going to question every decision you’ve ever made.
Ik its all made up and stuff but it's getting pretty stupid tbh that these scp content creator (not just him) feels like they're really explaining something that actually happened in real life (yeah u can hate on me idc)
The scariest part about that is the reason why they didn't know why they were going down there is because scp 3000 releases a substance that makes you forget things and destroys your brain.
i used to think less of 3000. i think i get it now. the scp object itself is dumb as rocks and a simple concept. but the article is complex and honestly goes in very deep on the effects of 3000.
This SCP feels like an analogy for depression. The forgetfulness and feelings of inadequacy and empty mediocrity expressed by the doctor, and the desperate attempts to reconnect with spirituality by his therapist are familiar to me.
Do you ever see something and realize you have a phobia that has never manifested previously? Sea serpents above the water are fine but the pictures of the enormous eel under the water are freaking me out. I don't know why.
That's how the seed was planted. It wasn't until I was riding across a lake on a jetski with my sister that I realized dark, murky water is the single most terrifying thing I could think of. I could feel eyes on me. Thankfully my sister was driving because I seized up then.
That's what happened to me the first time I went canoeing in a lake. The water wasn't very deep, but I was fine until I looked into the water and saw a thick "forest" of underwater plants swaying about. I freaked out because they made the water look alive and I was afraid something was going to reach out and grab me.
I feel terror from oceans specifically. While few things are necessarily geared towards it, almost everything is capable of killing you if you slip up. But the deep. The deep is something else entirely. You have basking sharks, megamouths, goblin sharks, sperm whales, gulper eels, angler fish, stone fish, and those are just some of the real ones, with their generally ugly appearances just adding to the uneasiness. But then you read stories like this, and feel all desire to see what the world holds run in to the corner to hide, as you realize that even the things that aren't real can terrify us with only the knowledge. Yes, this skip fucked me up.
Stephen King wrote (paraphrased) that some things just can’t enter the door of human perception - megafauna hasn’t truly existed for millions of years, and so we feel discomfort at something so unfathomable to the human experience
I remember learning to swim my brother tossed me into the deep side i was under for a while it was scary i pictured something big down there waiting to eat me
So it's a massive eel that eats human conciousness, exudes amnesia and nihilism, and might be an extra-dimensional god. Just about what you'd expect from an SCP.
I find this concept so comforting. If nothing matters or has any purpose, than any purpose we ascribe to anything gives it infinitely more meaning than it began with, as it had none to start.
I just got into Subnautica so my feed is riddled with lore about the game. I clicked this thinking I was going to have to encounter this at some point, and I'm so glad I don't. OML. That's horrific...
SCP-3000 is really good but I was always of the opinion that it wasn't the one that should have won the horror contest. I will admit that the concept of forgetting who you are and what you are doing while under the ocean is pretty scary though.
It's more than forgetting. Your memories swirl and merge with those around you. Think of the happiest moment of your life. Now what if you weren't sure if it was your memory at all? Our past defines us. It shapes us into who we are. But if our memories aren't our own anymore, who are we? Who were we? You're not just going to die down there. You will spend up to three days, mentally disappearing before your body just forgets how to breathe.

Fun fact Dr Krishnamurti is most likely named after an Indian philosopher of the same name.(jiddu krishnamurti) Considering where the scp takes place I thought that it was a cool coincidence Or Easter egg.
I'm going to take a break from all the joke comments and give my actual feedback (even though I really doubt you'll ever read this, but who knows?). First, I love people who put work into making the Foundation more accessible. My ADHD makes it hard for me to read whole documents, and pieces like your videos are a godsend for me. Then, the video itself is really well made. I did read the 3000 file, so I can say that you summed it up really well, kept the spirit of it, and that I feel like someone watching this video really isn't missing much from the article. So, really, great job :) A few other small things that make me like this even more: the quote at the end was very fitting and proved you make quite some research, and not hearing "please like and subscribe" at the end is refreshing and keeps us in the spirit of the SCP. :) So for all those reasons, liked and subscribed! Can't wait to see more :D Small detail: this entity is pretty passive and stays deep in the see, so the pictures of eels/sea dragons attacking boats aren't too fitting; I'm sure you know this of course, you wanted to keep the video moving, dynamic, and I completely understand, but personally (and that's only me of course, but I still want to give you my personal feedback) I would rather see a video with pictures that change less often, but are more fitting of the entity. :) Once again, great job, I loved every second of it!
I love your channel and i love how you approach the scp reading format not just reading line for line but summarizing it and putting a bit of yourself and your own thought into it. It actually feels like a discussion with the viewer rather then a program reading the whole document.
Its not so much it makes you a nihilist. It basically kills your conciousness in a meta sense. Like melting your mind. Hence why people who hang around it start forgetting things, getting confused, struggle to form thoughts and sentences, or even swap memories with somebody else.
And you, a miniaturized person. It shrinks you you, actually. When you get away, you turn normal size. It's like an aoe of sorts. If you're wondering what I'm talking about, just be confused.
In Sanskrit "Ananta" means something that has no end and "shesha" means lord of the serpent deities. According to Hindu mythology AnantaShesha is the creator of all beings and incarnation of the Supreme God Narayana. When AnantaShesha uncoils time moves forward and other beings are created and when he coils back everything is destroyed.. In simple words SCP 3000 is another one of God SCP..
The phrase "there is nothing, nothing, nothing". Might be interpreted as there is nothing referring to the creature. It seems to target those who loose their sanity around it. Possibly, it consumes those who begin to figure out what it really is. SCP3000 either consumes or drives these individuals to self destruction. While those with strong enough minds to resist it's chemical and/or psychic affects are not consumed by the creature. This could also be interpreted as the individuals who are consumed by the creature have been prepared for consumption. Their madness due to its chemical/phychic manipulation making them a more appealing meal.
SetohDoesStuff how about a better idea, what if they use Y-909 on d class that have view 096. That would make them forget about have viewing 096’s face, would that make him stop?
For some reason this reminds me of the Flood from Halo. They do consume flesh and such, so they're not the best match. I think what draws the similarity for me is 3000s ability to consume memories and minds, because the Flood does something similar

So I just found out about the scp universe the other day from your video popping up in my recommendations, ane I don't know what I love more; all the scps or the names of the different mtfs
I really love this SCP. I like to think it's just an anomalous cryptid of unknown origin feeding on minds. Not a god or anything malicious, let alone something that cares about Humanity. Do I believe 3000 is sapient? With a brain of that size, yes, it would be somwhat equivalent to what we call sapience. However, its sapience is so alien to us that we couldn't even begin to understand it. It's possible that 3000 lures its preys to deliver themselves to him for him to consume. 3000 could've learned the functioning of human psyche while "digesting" human minds and has since been using the mechanisms of our own minds against us for the sole purpose of feeding and sustaining itself. It's unlikely a being that size and that age would feed exclusively on human, however. It could feed on cetaceans and could've fed on large prehistoric animals. Marine dinosaurs possibly. But since the human mind is the most complex of the Animal Kingdom, it's highly likely it has a clear preference for Human consciousness over that of modern cetaceans. But that's just my take...
complexity is relative plus there has been evidence out there suggesting that cetaceans being sapiant (or atleast nigh-sapiant) like have you ever notice how whales always surface slowly whenever a human is nearby it's almost like they know that there is a conscious mind in there
It's funny that I just heard about this SCP today, because I've been having dreams about giant sea serpents recently. One dream in which a giant eel rose from the sea and hovered menacingly, coiling and gnashing, above my island in animal crossing. Kind of funny tbh bc my first thought was "wow this isn't very relaxing why would nintendo do this?". I also had another dream in which I was a giant sea serpent, sort of eel like, who had once been an angel but fell, and then became a god? Then I was banished to the deepest part of the ocean by the other gods because they feared my power. .... So I don't know what that means but it's interesting to hear about this SCP.
Plenty of us never needed a creepy piece of fiction to ponder any of this. But it is neat that this construction is like a worldwide collaborative Twilight Zone, having us come to grips with what makes us tick.
You might be wondering why I said potholes instead of portholes, and the reason is...Anantashesha destroyed that part of my brain.

Reasons I love 3000:
- Aquatic nightmare creatures are always awesome
- It takes vital elements of good horror and stretches them to their maximum capacity. _Ouch._
- The second thing is the idea that all monsters must represent a common fear or flaw among people to be truly effective.

I realy like it won the contest.
It has something eldritch, lovcraftian horror and fear about it without being a ripoff from lovcraftian horror.
It's more than forgetting. Your memories swirl and merge with those around you. Think of the happiest moment of your life. Now what if you weren't sure if it was your memory at all? Our past defines us. It shapes us into who we are. But if our memories aren't our own anymore, who are we? Who were we?

First, I love people who put work into making the Foundation more accessible. My ADHD makes it hard for me to read whole documents, and pieces like your videos are a godsend for me.
Then, the video itself is really well made. I did read the 3000 file, so I can say that you summed it up really well, kept the spirit of it, and that I feel like someone watching this video really isn't missing much from the article. So, really, great job :)
A few other small things that make me like this even more: the quote at the end was very fitting and proved you make quite some research, and not hearing "please like and subscribe" at the end is refreshing and keeps us in the spirit of the SCP. :)
So for all those reasons, liked and subscribed! Can't wait to see more :D
Small detail: this entity is pretty passive and stays deep in the see, so the pictures of eels/sea dragons attacking boats aren't too fitting; I'm sure you know this of course, you wanted to keep the video moving, dynamic, and I completely understand, but personally (and that's only me of course, but I still want to give you my personal feedback) I would rather see a video with pictures that change less often, but are more fitting of the entity. :)

It’s snake.

I do have a deep fear of deep water, and this SCP really did lean into that fear. The images do add a lot to the video.
At about 2:04 he makes a sound that sounds like squidward walking 🤣
omg he does
Thor shoulda killed 3000 when he pulled it from the ocean
Naw Ragnarok hadn't happened yet bruv
I guess he forgot that bit...
Wrong mythology
He cant without dieing himself.
Jormungand is so powerfull even Thor cant get more the a draw out of him.
@@sodacan4840 Thor first encounters and fishes out Jormungandr while on a fishing trip with a giant. He was going to kill it then, but the giant interrupted and the serpent got away.
I've watched a large portion of the SCP videos from the Exploring Series and this one has to be my favorite one.
That quote at the end though...Off to sit in a darkened room and think about it for a while.
So I just found out about the scp universe the other day from your video popping up in my recommendations, ane I don't know what I love more; all the scps or the names of the different mtfs
Theory. What if SCP-3000 is a living wormhole. The mind wipe effect could be to protect whatever goes through the "mouth" of the wormhole.
Somewhere in the actual file it says that they did an X-ray of 3000 and found it hadn't digested any of the corpses, and they were all still there.
@@willdyer9688 oof, swallowed alive, and living down in a sea serpent?
@@far0145 oh no, dead indeed, just not digested.

I love how big some of the SCPs are. I just don't know why.
Oh yeah yeah

I literally googled "world serpent monsters" and this is one of the things that came up which wasn't God of War related

It’s like destiny is saying you should become a second eel god...

Goggling
Plenty of us never needed a creepy piece of fiction to ponder any of this.
But it is neat that this construction is like a worldwide collaborative Twilight Zone, having us come to grips with what makes us tick.
