One of the best versions of House. He tells her what she’s in for immediately, he doesn’t sugarcoat it, but he takes her hand and tells her a little joke to put her at ease. He was merciful and full of genuine kindness, and did everything he could

R3d is a corruption of Red, making any attempts to define it in the same fashion incompatible and pointless. The 3 represents the number of letter spaces the word has, in addition to being an extension of "1337 5p34k" from the early 1980's nerd culture.
An octave is the number of note intervals in any scale diatonic or otherwise (Major, Minor, Dim, Aug, etc) which finishes on the same note as the "root" at a higher or lower sound register. In classic notation the octave is labelled as "8ve" to signify playing the note 12 semitones up or down.

Those sounds instantly make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, but fortunately I enjoy it because there is nothing else quite like making a difference in somebody's life. @Constantine Constans Except that his decision, and thus his wife's decision to go against it cost him his wife, any friends he had except Wilson, strained his relationship with Cuddy, and make him a bitter cynic who had nothing and nobody but his job.
House knows better than anyone what it's like to be in that situation and the value of a leg. He even said it himself that he regrets it, and that's why he told her to let them amputate. He wanted her to give up half her leg to save her life and everything in it, rather than risk all of it on the chance that she might get to keep her leg and retain almost full use of it.

Fun fact from wikipedia: This episode was shot entirely using Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras. These digital SLRcameras are primarily designed for still-picture photographs, but are one of the first to include high-definition video recording capability. These allowed the production team to work in very tight spaces, using minimal lighting, while also offering a very shallow depth of field putting the backgrounds out of focus, and making the work very challenging for the focus pullers.

Corrupted Cyborg When they amputate they usually can knock them out but in this situation they cant and Unfortunetly lidocaine wont do shit in the situation. He's cutting the bone. So you're correct. In this situation they give them the highest form of pain medication possible and if they feel like it won't harm the patient they will give them a drug like klonopin so they're out of it aka twilight zone. To where they are not anesthetized but they aren't fully awake either. There's unfortunately so easy or non painful way to amputate in the field. I hope I never have to do this. But as a trauma surgeon I would have to before most surgeons.

This episode closed House's character arc. This is the true final episode imo. They pushed the show on a while longer, but the final episode, thematically speaking, is just this episode but stilted and dragged out longer. House realizes he needs to change. He finally moves beyond the various injuries of his past. He leaves his cane behind as they carry the girl out to the ambulance. No coincidence obviously, its very important symbolically, and from that moment on we understand House has reconciled his past.

Season 6 was my favorite season of House. It had a great premiere episode and a great finale episode. This whole episode was so touching, and when House said that he wished he had amputated his leg, we could all feel his pain. It was for me, the first time I really got to know the degree of pain he's been feeling. For once, he really connected to a patient. He got vulnerable with his story about his leg not only to convince her to do the right thing but he got vulnerable to show her what the reality would be if she didn't amputate.

Maybe it's because I kind of understand the person House is, but what Cuddy said was a bit harsh. Someone may not have anything (career or relationship) in their life, but it doesn't mean it's worthless and there's no permission to act as so. I'm not looking for anything in my life. I don't want a big money career where I'm the boss or a relationship or children. For someone who's spent a lot of her life depressed and little to no motivation to actually live, if I can hit the age 50, I think I've accomplished something great. House has shown he is very suicidal and doesn't really care about others or even making himself happy. Maybe he doesn't want anything but acting like that's pathetic is kind of mean. Not everyone wants the world

I always got that House is at his happiest when diagnosing weird/rare diseases and actually saving people's lives. What happens when he has to retire? He doesn't have anything else to fall back on for, and he might become a drug-addled lunatic because of that.
He's not suicidal (he's willing to try anything on his leg)...but the pain and the cynical nature he has makes him pull away from everybody like a mofo. I mean, look at the fact that he treats everyone like dirt...plus his motto ("Everyone lies.")

NeijiHina, nobody seems to have actually solved "the existential crisis" of meaning in life... many find "purpose" in relationships, which are, ultimately, just extension of the "pyramid scheme" … being conscious is a confounding "gift" from the universe and is only available presently.

@Constantine Constans You know, amputation doesn’t happen because of some future inconvenience in life. It’s a last resort. Without amputating it, it can cause infection to spread or become useless anyways, in which it begins to rot and eventually falls off. If that happens though, your entire body would be too sick to cure. So no, in this case it’s not stupid, it’s literally the safest option they had.

    • @reinburhythm3215
      @reinburhythm3215 2 года назад

@Constantine Constans you also have to take into account that the treatment house underwent was not only within a certain time frame, *in* a hospital, and *with proper medical equipment,* but it was also extremely risky. Even riskier than doing an amputation like that.

House hates that there's any futility to life. When "Esther" died, he couldn't figure out WHY and it became an obsession for him until "All-in". House WANTS to know that all of his insights, all of his intelligence can so easily be rendered impotent just like a simple clot can resign House to a lifetime of agony and misery!

You know, medieval doctors really didn't amputate often at all. For one, bone-setting was well known about, and they knew that a simple break when reset would heal in time. They often didn't partake in many complex surgeries like amputation due to religious reasons.

the actress (china shavers) portrays pain really well here, a lot better than they usually do in this show which makes me think it wasn't just direction. she isn't just screaming bloody murder constantly thrashing around, she's moaning because she can't make any other vocalization and writhing likes she's trying to get away from something inescapable.

This scene was amazing. It’s nice to see House treat patients like this, obviously because he relates to her so much. I still need to watch the whole series but I know he isn’t like this with all of his patients and I think it’s refreshing to see him take care of a patient like this. It almost made me cry because this scene was more real than others are in my opinion. House is usually snarky and keeps a distance to some extent but he got on a personal level with this woman and I loved that.

I have watched this series over and over and I think I found where House developed his motto that "Everybody Lies" it came with him losing the ability of his leg. His girlfriend at the time I forget her name and Cuddy his friend both schemed behind his back to do an operation on his leg Yes it probably saved his life but in his mind the two people he trusted the most went behind his back against what he wanted. And throughout the series they really don't do anything to help him with this realization. Wilson and Cuddy talk about him behind his back and he finds out because he is very calculated and has studied their behaviors to figure when something is up. And I bet it hurts everytime they tell him something or hide something from him just because they're afraid to face him and deal with his shouting. It's sad that the people who shouldn't be lying to him, have lied to him for 8 Seasons and if I remember their dates the show takes place from 2004-2008 so that's four years of it and longer because of his leg.

This really is a powerful scene, expecially with the continuation that really drives home the point, life isn't fair. House finally broke, realizing his flaw of how hard he was and how much he regrets keeping his leg.
He realize how much better his life might have been had he gotten it cut off but after all that, that growth he felt, the growth they saw and the heart he poured in... She never got to experience it. House never got to see what could have been. He cared and someone died. The happy do gooders in love should get to walk free and live.
