Season 4 Episode1 "Alone"
When an office building collapses, House has to work fast to diagnose a young woman, Megan (Bevin Prince), who has managed to survive the disaster. Without a team, House talks through his ideas with a janitor at Princeton-Plainsboro. As House persists in diagnosing Megan by himself, he soon realizes the case is not what it appears to be and that solitude may not be the answer.

On one hand, they found out their loved one is dead. On the other hand, one man found out his loved one is alive. A devastatingly sad scene while an uplifting moment for another.
Agreed, the most fucked up episode ever.
I laughed
we have a saying "مصائب قوم عند قوم فوائد" which means some people's disasters are other's benefits. it applies for this episode perfectly.
There was a true case similar to this shown on Oprah. Two friends were in a car crash and one family buried who they thought was their daughter, whilst the other family sat around the other girl praying whilst she was in a coma! I can remember saying to my boyfriend at the time that I'd only have to see one of his toes and I'd know if it was him or not!
ALI sensei هاي شنو علاوي 😂
As a healthcare provider and first responder, this episode always ROCKED me. I cannot even fathom having to tell a family that we had improperly identified their daughter and that she had actually passed days prior with no one she knew at her side. Absolutely devastating.
Unfortunately it's even worse, the hospital didn't misidentify her, her own family did and the doctors didn't second guess
@@fangsabre to be honest, denial probably plays a part in the misidentification
@@fangsabre But they did figure it out.
Best I can say is think of something to mellow you out and be ready to amscray after giving the news. The akward part is you don't feel anything and make them angry in their grief for appearing callous

“Your girlfriend never lied to you.”
That was an unusually kind thing for House to say!?
I mean the dude lost his other, so he really can't be pushed any lower
It was just true
Yeah, but “why are you still here?” Was rather harsh, even for House.
House may be rough be he still has a heart
Honestly if he didn’t he wouldn’t work so hard to get the right diagnosis
It's hilarious how low the bar for kindness is for House.
"Your girlfriend never lied to you." One of the few times when House made a small, human gesture to console a patient or family member.
He wasn't consoling him. He was twisting the knife.
He was saying, you were willing to leave her in this broken state because you thought she lied, instead of just being grateful she was alive.
NOW, you have the girlfriend you always thought you had, but she's dead. Happy?
Both are reasonable ways of interpreting what he said.
@@cryptojihadi265 knowing house, it was both. he likes his double meanings.
@@cryptojihadi265 house is never cruel for the heck of it.
This was meant to comfort.
House has a kind of radical honesty that spares no one, including himself. It doesn't bring him any pleasure.
This same mix-up happened with the Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus accident in 2018. About half the team & staff was killed, the rest injured, from minor to paralyzed. The players were about the same age, height, build, fitness, skin color and hair color (having dyed their hair for the playoffs). The bodies were ID'd as well as they could. Two days later, "Xavier woke up and said, 'I'm not Parker Tobin." Brutal.
Injuries so bad that the Parent's couldn't even tell that it wasn't their own Son's, yet everyone was super ticked-off at the Hospital for making the incorrect Identification of both Xavier and Parker. If the Parent's couldn't tell that they weren't dealing with their own Child, how would "strangers" be able to tell. With such a horrific accident and the boy's looking so much alike because of colouring their hair for the playoff's etc. ; I think that the EMS personnel, the Doctors, and the Hospital staff did a terrific job by only mixing up two of the boys. Sad and shocking yes, however I feel that given the urgency required to ID the "similar looking" team mates, the Hospital personnel should have been commended rather than ridiculed and criticized for the mix up.
I was about to mention this as well. As Cristine Cristine pointed out, if parents can't tell how can first responders. In an accident that bad a mix up bound to happen, I honestly wasn't surprised by that news(would have been surprising if there hadn't been a mix up). But I did feel bad for the parents, and the medical personnel who were working on the team, they were probably equally as surprised and distressed by the news.
They didn't deserve the backlash people gave them, they were doing so much at one time and with little time for some of the players
Lauren Quist I recall an accident when a school bus collided with a train. There were so many badly injured kids that the hospital staff wrote their names on their foreheads with markers. It seemed a bit weird to me. Like, maybe just write it on a chart and put the chart in front of them?
@@daerdevvyl4314 Likely the Congers School Bus incident. 1972. Overloaded school bus with 50 students aboard failed to stop at a rural grade crossing at the bottom of a hill. 15000 ton coal train cut the bus in half and dragged the front part of the bus over 1000 feet before the engineer got her stopped. Several kids were killed, most were maimed, and the closest hospital only had 7 surgical rooms. First police officer on scene confirmed that at least 5 of the kids had suffered full amputation of limbs at the crash site. Since it was 1972, there was no 911, no Life-Flight, no cell phones, and the only reason help arrived so fast was the mother of one of the boys that had just boarded the bus was doing dishes and watched the crash from her kitchen window up the hill. He was ejected from the bus and was crushed between the remains of the front part of the bus and the leading locomotive.
I remember this clearly because I read a part of an interview with the train engineer as an example of evocative writing as part of a journalism class. "The memory that remains etched in his (the engineer, I have forgotten his name, sadly) mind is the sight of the rows of faces pressed against the windows, mouths open in silent screams, their tiny hands raised as if to ward off the 15000 ton monster that now roared down upon them."
I cannot imagine what that man went through. Or the lady that saw her son die from her kitchen window, but didn't know it until the next day when they found his body between the metal pieces. Or the policeman who arrived first, or the firemen and paramedics and doctors that worked to save what could be saved. The parents that had to find out their child was dead, or mangled, or maimed. The priest that had to give what comfort could be given in such a situation, or the neighbor whose child had been spared and still had to face his/her friend whose child had not. I am thankful that I do not know.

This episode was bittersweet and heartbreaking. On one hand, the guy never lost his love. But the one that did never got to be with his gf before she passed. It’s extremely sad
I guess this was a happy ending for someone. Just not for Meghan's boyfriend. So tragic and uplifting all at once. One of my favorite episodes on the show
One of my favorite House Eureka moments. I also loved House's hesitation in telling them.
It says on IMDB that this is based on a real medical case that actually happened.
A lot of them are. There was an episode of Grey's where there was a live, unexploded bomb inside a body cavity and that actually happened to an infantryman overseas. They both survived
Whitney Cerak and Laura Van Ryan
Damn....can you imagine being that mom thinking "omg please save my daughter, please dear god don't let her die" then house comes in "that's not your daughter your daughter is the girl that died, your daughter is dead".......Just damn ....sitting there all that time waiting for your daughter to be released and better but they're dead and you don't even know.....
3:50 "which patient is that?" Well played writers.
"she's bleeding everywhere, unless the guy was preforming an abortion with a shotgun" is possibly my favorite line from this episode.
Honestly, the idea of being horribly injured, barely conscious, and constantly being mistaken for the wrong person would be truly horrifying. No wonder she’s screaming...
I love this show so much that I completely missed the giant HIPAA violation after 6:30.
Can we talk about how brave it is for the show to cast a dead fish as the mother in this episode?
What I found most upsetting about this is that these two people stayed by the side of someone they believed to be their loved one, but wasn't. Megan passed away and they weren't there because of a misidentification 😥.
But at least she had Liz's boyfriend even though he was a stranger?
Well that's what hurt me the most
Neither girl ever knew
Or they felt that love vibe if at all
So it was all good
Megan wasn’t alone when she lived her last n died and Liz wasn’t either in what they thot was her last.
Quarantine had me up a night watching House M.D. and I ain't even mad. He's like the Sherlock Holmes of the medical department 😂
House is inspired by Sherlock Holmes actually from what I know.
house is in fact a copy of sherlock
“I know her smell”
Yeah, what a very helpful skill when she was covered in soot, rubble, and smoke when the building collapsed on her.
I get he’s in denial but did he really have to say that?
Wilson is an angel sent to give House signs lol he always says something that make things click for House
This is not my beautiful wife!
when the days go by...
Once in a lifetime
Isaac Hidalgo
Same as it ever was3
letting the days go by
Working at PPTH sounds like an absolute nightmare. You're doing your job normally and out of nowhere House can pop up, insult you, interrupt whatever you're doing and being a pain in the ass to everybody around.
Worst part, the dean won't ever do anything to stop him and he gets away with anything.
Plot twist: the girl died later because he didn't wear a mask.
I wonder if you saw this coming ☹️
These mask comments, man. Nostradamus is quaking in his boots.
The irony of this comment now
Cuz he's a badass
This comment is relevant this time of the year
“Stop enabling him” 🤣🤣🤣
Wow, that's crazy!
The writers much have had such a great time !
This was a conclusion I did not see coming.
Damn House episodes how do they do it, even when you expect to be shocked you still end up shocked in a different way then what you expected what a show
Fun fact, this concept is actually inspired by a true story
People who are surprised that House said: ''your girlfriend never lied to you'' must be people who only watch clips of the show on RUclips. There's absolutely nothing surprising about House saying that, House *always* apologizes when he's wrong. He's just rarely wrong.

"Congratulations, you would suck at playing Jeopardy."
I love how this episode is all about house needing a team, house not needing a team, yada yada. but the show only ever needs a team so they can be wrong long enough for house to come up with the solution in the end
