      I just wouldn't get this years. No replaceable ram, worse battery, and a OLED is not an "upgrade" compared to mini led, burn in and a reflective screen. I just hope next year they change it back up this seems very much a design over function change. Speaker upgrade and bigger track pad though is nice to see

    I just got a 2024 G14 with the Ryzen 9 and the 4060 about a week ago, from Best Buy, for $1600. It’s played everything I’ve thrown at it flawlessly. It has a great RGB keyboard, excellent sound (good bass for laptop speakers) and the webcam look good (it should. It’s 1080p). So far it has exceeded my expectations in performance and also appearance. It’s a solid metal construction chassis (not plastic like so many others) and the white RGB lit keys against the silver chassis looks elegant. The OLED screen and available brightness level is amazing. Definitely happy with my purchase.

    When it comes to reviewing OLED laptop displays, reviewers must besides burn-in also emphasize on pwm flickering, given latter is a huge downside for such displays, especially when employed in laptops where brightness is often set around or below 50% to extend battery life when unplugged.

    • @fidelisitor8953
      @fidelisitor8953 8 месяцев назад +1

      90% of people aren't sensitive to PWM flickering so it doesn't really do much to point it out.

    • @kostaskg4819
      @kostaskg4819 8 месяцев назад

      That is a rather arbitrary statement (check your sources) but even so refers to max or close to max brightness. When dimmed, flickering becomes much more prevalent, especially at low levels, which considering we are referring to laptop panels is often the case. Moreover, different OLED panels have different flickering frequencies, meaning the effect varies. Say, if the frequency of PWM flickering is high enough (e.g. above 500Hz), the effect won’t be noticeable, however, many panels employ frequencies of 200-300Hz. There are rumors pointing towards panels utilizing frequencies of >1000Hz in the years to come, though this is not the case today.

    Asus wasn't even on my radar until the 2022 G14 went on sale for $999 (6700S) a while ago, and never realized how much of a cult following it had/has. Fast forward a couple of years, and virtually all feedback was considered from customers and implemented. I ALMOST pulled the trigger on the Legion Slim 5 14" as an upgrade but boy am I glad I waited it out. This thing is gorgeous. And the only problem I have now is we have to wait.

      @@user-pt1qe2qq8k ohh yeah. That 14" is going to be amazing. It's perfect to be honest. You don't need a 4090 in a laptop that small. And till 4070 the graph shows that they will reach their maximum performance around that 105w anyway. So you don't lose too much there. @@michaozga7825 too high? If a smaller screen gets 3k, common sense dictates a bigger screen should get more. The reason we need higher pixel density on laptop screen is due to the way they handle the led dimming in the cheaper laptop screens as compared to your standard monitors. Last year every single (above $1.4k) 16" OLED had 3.2k resolution and 14" had 2.8k resolution screen. Rightly so. Both at 120hz.

My current desktop is just not space efficient, and even if it was, the vibration caused by driving would not be good for the hardware. This is a very, VERY tempting solution to that problem. However, I would be sacrificing some performance as the laptop version of the 4090 is not really a 4090, it's like a 4080 in disguise, and my current desktop does have a 4090 in it. As a hardware pro it's hard to recommend this laptop for gaming or creative work. For usual tasks? maybe, but then again you don't need to splash on a laptop that costs between 2-3k USD for office or light work, much cheaper laptops achieve that goal. For creative or gaming? a big no no. Why? The design is nice and the OLED display is great but that's where it ends 1. The CPU is basically a rebranded 7940HS - this is basically last year's CPU in a "new" packaging. If the 2023 G14 is already running very hot imagine what would happen with this year's thinner chassis and inadequate cooling while gaming or doing a high res video editing - it's going to thermal throttle and run super hot a lot more. 2. the 4070 GPU is slightly slower than last year's model, not by much but still slower meaning it would perform worse at an extra cost for this year's pricing. The 4050/4060/4070 are capped (voltage wise) by Nvidia to 100W-110W, anything above it is lost and you wouldn't feel any difference, and with the thinner chassis and bad heat handling it would become an issue very fast for gamers and creative/content creators related tasks. 3.The RAM is soldered! 32 GB soldered is alright but they sell a 16GB soldered RAM! this is not enough for a 2024 gaming or creative laptop, it's arguably borderline ok for current gaming but won't stay that for long, and really? stuck with a 16GB soldered ram and 1 SSD slot for an over $2000-$2500 "gaming' laptop? if you're after 32GB then you're getting closer to $3000 which is sick pricing wise! In the G14 2023 version the RAM wasn't soldered so you could add in more memory if needed. So what this year's g14 gets you? you're paying 2K-3K USD for last year's hardware with degraded performance at extra cost when you have better alternatives out there. Sure the display is great but what you end up buying is a screen and a sleek design - paying a premium for design and an OLED screen.

    RTX 4070 only, on the 14 inch...UURRGGHH!
    The 4070 is THE worst mobile 40 class GPU in the range if spending that kind of money.
    The 8GB frame buffer makes it a joke.
    Sorry but there are too many compromises on the 2024 models, especially the cut back TDPs of the graphics cards.
    If I were looking to buy a gaming laptop like these, I'd take the 2023 models any day of the week.

    I love OLED and use an OLED monitor for my desktop I think I very much rather prefer LCD for my laptops. I love the Mini LED on the MacBook Pro 14 I just got. LCD and more specifically Mini LED is brighter which is important for Laptops.

    See? There are 120hz OLEDs. Can we please get a 32" 120 hz desktop display? I dont understand the excessive 240+ hz mania going on right now. Barely anyone can run any modern games at 4K 240 hz

    It will burn in within a year, tanking resale value. MiniLED was superior plus brighter. Chassis upgrades are welcome. Keyboard font is heinous and the person who chose it should be soundly flogged for trying to appeal to 12 year old gamers who can't afford this machine in the first place. Overall, nice.

    Whenever a company says you still can buy the old one, it means they they will keep selling the year old device at the same price and the new one will be jacked up to a higher price. That’s why M1 Macbook Air is still in the market, to manipulate consumers into thinking M2/M3 Macbook Airs are worth the higher price.
