LAY HO MA! This is a recipe worth cozying up to - it's chocolatey, sweet, rich, and really full-bodied. Join me in this episode and learn how to make a delicious hojicha chai tea plus the best homemade coconut milk from scratch today!
COCONUT CASHEW MILK INGREDIENTS:
8 cups filtered water
250g coconut meat (mature coconut)
pinch of salt
1/4 cup cashews
COCONUT MILK DIRECTIONS:
1. Blend 6 cups of filtered water with the coconut meat and a pinch of salt on high for 3-4min (use warm water if not using a high powered blender)
2. Pour the coconut milk through a milk bag and into a large bowl. Squeeze out the liquid and keep the coconut pulp for future recipes
3. Rinse out the blender. Then, blend the cashews with 2 cups of filtered water on high for 45 seconds (soak the cashews overnight or boil them if not using a high powered blender)
4. Combine the cashew milk with the coconut milk (not necessary to strain through milk bag)
HOJICHA CHAI TEA INGREDIENTS:
2 cardamom pods
1/2 tsp coriander seeds
1 star anise
1/4 tsp all spice
3 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp black peppercorns
10g dark chocolate
pinch of salt
small piece ginger
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
2 cups coconut milk
1 generous tbsp hojicha
HOJICHA CHAI TEA DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat up a frying pan to medium heat. Add the dry spices (minus the salt and hojicha) and toast for a couple of minutes
2. Set the cinnamon stick aside and transfer the rest to a pestle and mortar. Coarsely crush the spices and transfer to a heat proof bowl
3. Add back in the cinnamon stick along with the remaining ingredients
4. Heat up a little bit of water in a small saucepan. Then, place the heat proof bowl on top using the steam to heat up the milk
5. Stir occasionally until the milk is hot. Then, turn the heat off and add the hojicha. Give it a stir and let the tea steep for about 45 seconds
6. Place the cinnamon stick into the serving cup. Then, pour the tea into the serving cup through a strainer

Great to drink in cold weather! Yummy!
Coconut milk, banana, vanilla, chai seeds, honey, salt… I bought this pudding And added protein powder. It’s good. Merry Christmas 🎄💕
I wish we cud have this beautiful vegan chai accessible... coconut milk..i donno if I will ever be able to have vegan chai
If you ran a café in my area, I would be heading out the door right now to get a cup of this! 😍
🤗
Or a restaurant... i would be heading out to get any delicious food he made with absolutlely confidence. 😋
I’d be rushing there too. 😊
I agree w this 100%! I can see this happen v likely lol
Thanks a lot, this recipe is really nice, During winter, we want to drink something hot.
Namh shivay.
Being a compulsive South Asian tea drinker... love masala chai, love coconut and love Hojicha.
This is pretty much the best of everything for me. Thank you!
🥳🥳🥳
🇿🇦❤️
What’s not to like? Throw in some pakoras, wear a jumper and you COULD be somewhere warm reminiscing! Too cold fo any other tea!😁
Also had a nut milk business myself! Happy to hear you did too! In indian cuisine we make a ton of coconut milk so I learned how to make it from my mum, so it's about a 1:1 ratio of coconut meat and water, I think you used a lot more water. Also start with half the water first, warm water like you said it needs heat to break down but you don't have to rely on the heat from the motor. Then add the other half a blend. It doesn't need to be blended for longer than 30 seconds each time if you use the warm water and less water.
Thanks Shivani for sharing the coconut milk recipe. Will give it a try. 🙏😊
Caribbean countries usually use that coconut milk in their gastronomy, in Costa Rica, for example, they prepare Rice 'n beans and in Cartagena, a sweet rice made from that coconut milk.
It is a legacy from Africa
😋🥥🙌🏻
Looks delicious, Wil!!!
For viewers in London (Ontario, Canada), just a tip: in the Covent Garden Market, The Tea Haus sells hojicha. They have amazing customer service, and when I wasn't able to get my family to ship me some from Japan, I found The Tea Haus's tea to be quite good quality for a reasonable price.
thanks for the tip!
@@araani8740, no problem ( ^ - ^ )/
They really are great there....
It is really new recipe! I who like Chai Tea a lot. And drink twice a week. So I will try.
Thank you for sharing this video. I will do and let my daughter (who likes Chai Tea too). Great for VEGAN people :-) Best wishes from STOCKHOLM - SWEDEN
This is Exotic cha. I know of adding coconut milk to coffee but not tea. Another exotic chai / tea is kashmiri cha I had at a house warming party. Its called Kahwa made & served in a samovar. It has a reddish tinge & has all these spices & saffron plus nuts in it like almonds
You should be on Netflix doing vegan cooking! I love your videos, they are always so amazing and you so everything so effortlessly! 🙏🏻♥️
I “like” your videos before I watch them. Always sure I’m going to love them! This one is absolutely delicious
🤗
Oh my. Looks delicious😊comfort food🤗 🙏🙏🙏
I do the same thing 😊
From Boston, MA there's no doubt it's came a part of my life thanks will for your luxurious, delicious recipes " always presentable "😊❤👍👑
So it’s basically, Indian tea, with dairy milk substituted by nut milk, sugar by maple syrup and a bit of chocolate. Ggs
Man that looks so smooth and delish....you just took herbs to another level for me 🥰😍🤩
You know why I subscribed to your channel, you’re on details, you mentioned how long and the temperature, for us that we don’t know how to cook those are important and fast not waisting our gigabytes 😀
Is there anything we can substitute the hojicha with if we don’t have it on hand? I’d love to make this recipe for the holiday party.
You could use your fav black tea 🥳
I have been appreciating the amount of puns in your videos these days. Never stop.
😎
Wil - Lay Ho Lay Ho! What other uses would you recommend for the coconut milk other than the chai recipe?
4:41 - that cabinet with uniform containers and labels…🥰🥰 We would be friends IRL. 😝
Also just wondering - Why didn’t you strain the cashew nut milk?
That's some very grown up hot chocolate you're making there, Wil.
What's the best one off Amazon? I can't get to an Asian store as I live on an island off the west coast of Canada
If ****bucks happened to put this on their menu, I calculate they’d owe you approximately £50,000,0000. Fingers crossed 😂😂🤞🏻
That looks good! I also liked the "cozy" scenario that you described...a cup of this chai, sitting in front of a fireplace, listening to classical music! That's my idea of relaxation! 😊
Wonderful, something very new for me, i will try for sure, it is a big project
Por lo que entiendo es leche de coco automatizada.. ..uma excelente opción para desayunar.. ..amo estás recetas....
Un molcajete... Aka mortero no maple syrup. We have agave syrup and wild honey...
Well no tea either lol. Well I will figure it out. But of course i live in the land where chocolate comes from!
Can we use the coconut milk instead of coconut meat? In the town where I live, coconut meat is not available
WOW what a blender. Coconut is fresh here, can I use it or i have to use old coco..we have dried coco here however. Not like the stuff you buy in USA. I live in Mexico. Muchos cocos here.
You had me at coconut 🤩. Looks so good, will definitely try.
🥥🙌🏻
I’ll buy a Coconut milk. 😂 then I’ll follow the rest of the steps.
Great recipe for wintertime! Are you using hojicha gold roast? Could you recommend a website to purchase the tea? This is the very first time I heard about the tea, and definitely would like to try. Can I use the can coconut milk in this recipe?
Just FYI, Chai is the Indian equivalent for the word Tea. So Chai Tea would translate to Tea Tea.
Good day Chef. This looks absolutely delicious 😋. Thinking about this on Christmas morning!
Thanks for sharing. Do enjoy your day 😊
P.s. love your kitchen 👍🏼
🥳🥳🥳
Yeung man, can you please tell me where you got those wonderfull storage boxes. They are amazing and I also wanna have them for my soon new kitchen
If we heat the coconut milk directly.
Will it get broken in pieces chhena type.
Why do you use a double boiler for heating the milk? Why not just heat it slowly in a saucepan?
Can we use store-bought coconut milk?
Oh wow! I would love to try this!!! We are a lover of chai And chocolate as well as green teas in this house. ☕️
🥳🥳🥳
Hi love you recipes videos l want a make that recipe is so delicious 😋
🙌🏻🥳
This recipe is really interesting ... will make it! Hoijchicha is a very smoky tea with no theine ... very healthy! 🍵
What a warm and elegant gentleman. Brilliant chef! Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes with us!!
🙌🏻🥳
To save time and trouble, can i use coconut milk or coconut cream or coconut slice to make this tea?
Nice holiday party hot drink. Thanks
cha = tea and chai = tea so saying hojicha chai tea = hoji tea tea tea... smh... :/
In the Caribbean we always do this, we call the hard brown coconuts dry coconut
I never have it and can't imagine how it taste with all the ingredients
I love fresh-brewed chai. Will definitely have to have it with coconut milk...yum.
Hi Tanya, Hojicha is a type of tea leaves, and totally different flavor than chai. I think Wil put the " - " in the title to make a play on words - they are both awesome teas though!! Happy holidays :))
Chai tea is not different tea means chai in Hindi it's the same thing
this looks really hearty for the winter, i ll be sure to try it out later, keep up the good work 💪
🙌🏻
I love love love all your videos. Your kitchen cabinets are so well stocked, where do you get your spices from?
I know you can find some at the local grocery stores, but the quality doesn’t seem to be as good.
That was fascinating to watch . I hope you reuse that cinnamon again . Its hardly had its flavour extracted . wash it dry it , re use it .
🙌🏻👨🏻🍳👌🏻
Ooh I can't wait to make this during the holidays for family! I know you have fans from all over the world, but I am also in the LM area, like you. Is there a local place where you like to get your hojicha? Thank you so much for this beautiful recipe and video!
“Small piece of ginger” 😂 proceeds to had a huge chunk
😎
Omg I need to get my hands on some hojicha, I’m hearing everyone talk about it!!
Hojicha is a delicious roasted green tea. Yum! Many Oriental markets sell an organic version!
Delicious as always👌🏻 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a wonderful day everyone 🌻
🙌🏻🥳🙋🏻♂️
Hi! What blender do you recommend? I don't think mine will handle these items
If a high powered blender is not available, you could simply make the cashew milk. Soak them over night or in hot water for a few hours before blending.
Looks delicious and I love the organization of those cabinets! 🙂
Can u answer me the name of the blender
You are an artist of balance, delicate harmony and flavor!
I’m an avid coconut milk fan and I’ve understood that soaking the coconut pieces in room temperature water for 30 minutes, softens the pieces and ensures better milk and oil extraction from them.
Interesting!
Ayyyyee~ Par-tea, par-tea yeah!
Esta bebida se antoja deliciosa . Todo lo que cocinas me encanta y tus videos son muy buenos . Sencillos e impecables .
Perfect for chilly rainy days like today🥶 Thank you for sharing!
🥳🥳🥳
Will, the recipe is superb! My whole house smelled mouthwatering when I started grinding the toasted spices. Yummy! So far I know only matcha and genmaicha (any suggestions how to drink it pls), but hojica is a surprise! Keep the drinks coming😂 Thank you!
Genmaicha, I think you brew it with water that is just before boiling. Add a few grains of sea salt if you have it. Drink plain. It's good with sushi, Japanese food, or by itself.
This looks soo delicious... 😋
What can be the substitute for hojicha
Black tea would work as well 🙌🏻
We also make our own coconut oil by reducing the same shredded coconut, its a lovely process
How?
It's just CHAI not CHAI TEA
Get a satisfying taste and a variety of aromas. The richness of the coconut milk and chocolate adds a nice flavor even when you drink it over ice. It just adds a little more sweetness. I live in a hot country. Drink cold, delicious and very refreshing. Thank you for the good recipe.🙏🥰🌱
OMG... what a drink!!
I'd love a recipe for oat/rice horchata. The oat would make it creamy and the rice more authentic. I've tried making horchata but it wasn't very good. Maybe you could work out some kinks, Wil?
Ahhh, love horchata 🙌🏻👨🏻🍳👌🏻 Definitely will keep this in mind
@@YEUNGMANCOOKING Thanks for considering! Cannot say how much I enjoy your recipes, your skills and presentation, and your punny sense of humor. (Two can play at that!)
Sarah Dee I like Emeril’s horchata recipe made with rice and almonds.
Amazing chai recipe. Will try it definitely . Can I use coconut milk from supermarket ? Thanks for sharing this comforting chai recipe.😊😋
Podrías ayudarnos con un menú navideño ?
Tendré visitas que no son veganos y quiero sorprenderlos . Muchas gracias 🥰
QUESTION. Why add cashew milk in with the coconut milk ???
Really? O God you ar so good! About the,, confidence "it's really hard to keep. You have really beautiful recipes.
Nice nut bag.
Chai Tea time ⌚ with the surprise of the 🥥 coconut, cashews and chocolate for unbelievable drink 🥤
Greetings from Germany. Could you heat everything up straight away in the pot instead of putting it in an extra bowl and then heating it up? I find your dishes very delicious, but unfortunately I don't always get all the ingredients. So sometimes I dare to change things up.
Tbh, the cinnamon is way too much. It will overpower the chai. However, I don’t see you boil it for long. That might help. 🤔
There's no such thing as chai tea. It's westerners that coined this word. Chai is Hindi word for tea that's it!
☺️👍🏽
Eye just came here to emotionally cut myself when seeing your cupboards...
Awesome recipe, just that when I heat the coconut milk it breaks down.
Please don't waste Cinnamon. For a lot of poor and underprivileged like me it's almost like melange. Use it in an efficient way.
What is the name of the high-power blender you are using?
This one is the a3500 series from Vitamix 👨🏻🍳🙌🏻
Thank you!
When am I going to get time to make all these delicious things to eat & drink? Desperately need & want this Hojicha chai. Will you be opening up a tea bar near me?
Tea-rific, Wil! 🤗
😉😎
Inspirational!
Great one! But why the salt …does it help to make it last longer? Just out of curiosity!✌️
What would happen to the milk if you simmered it directly in the pan? The bain marie style bowl over the water method is a great touch.
We make the same traditional tea and coffee with coconut milk but we don't boil the milk. We add the sugared milk into the decaution just before we serve the tea.
hey yeung :)
i would really apreciate it if you added israel to the countries you are shipping too. i want to buy a milk bag :)
Imagine doing a tea so good, when you take a sip you loose a little balance for a split second?
This is it. That's the tea.
Yumm
I would like to know where you get the spice containers in your cupboard?
Amazing ,it is out of this world.Thank You so much for sharing
Wow never seen or taught that tea can be made like this very interesting recipe I’ll definitely try this but i think I can’t find the Japanese tea leafs
Not worth making. Much better chai out there than this recipe. Disappointing.
I wish I could taste through the screen
😋☕️
Does hojicha have a green tea taste or black tea taste associated with it? Or is it just chocolatey taste?
Thanks !
I personally feel like it has more of a black tea taste🧡
Cha = Chai = Tea
Is the dar chocolate sweetened? Is there anything special about the dark chocolate?
Looks great! And thank you for introducing me to something brand new, hojicha!
🥳🙌🏻
