- Join Vasant Lad, BAM&S, MASc, founder and director of The Ayurvedic Institute, as he walks you through his personal masala chai recipe and daily meditation as you make a cup of chai together.
In this moment of making chai we get to spend a few moments in contemplation - working with each ingredient - to make a brew that is good for our systems, as well as a gift for others in our household and community. Sharing a cup of chai with our loved ones is a blessing we can both give and receive every day!
When asked to give the exact portions for this recipe, Vasant Lad made a joke that he doesn’t measure - and in a way this is what we each do with our personal chai recipe, learn what works for us.

i am crying because this man reminds me of my grandfather for whom i made tea growing up, a very similar recipe. he wore a very similar ring, and a similar watch. he also looked similar to you. he is, however, no more and that's why im crying. thank you for reminding me about him.
❤
Aum shanti xx
It not tea he is making. It's more like a meditation in action... ❤
Sir I’m so glad I came across this channel thank you for sharing your wisdom with us 🙏
In ancient ayurveda perhaps there is no mention of tea. Tea is introduced mainly by British and other European. If there any ancient ayurvedic book mentioning uses of tea as a drink, please inform me about the book .
That is black tea from China British were just greedy the knowledge is from east
Lovely. Thank you Dr Lad for sharing this special ritual 🌷
The sadhana of chai by Dr. Lad - it does not get any better than this. Much gratitude for sharing 🙏🏻
Dr. Lad...my prostrations to u..U remind me of my Grandfather. I simply loved listening to u Sir. I am already doing the Soham meditation..but now after listening to u my faith in it has doubled. wonderful video and breakdown of each spice!
I now love Chai even more. I will add these spices from tomorrow. I only add Saunf, Sonth and Tulasi right now.
Beautiful “slow-tea” video, felt peaceful while watching it. My mother who is an Ayurvedic Doctor also makes this tea everyday. Feels so light and refreshing on the tummy.
Can this recipe aggravate pitta dosha cause reflux and acidity?
I would love to try this but suffer from GERD
Beautiful presentation... One suggestion which I normally do, before having the chai, I sprinkle the fine granular mixture on top, which gives extra aroma with taste...🙏
Dr. Lad, what is your recommendation for those who do not drink caffeinated tea, or even decaf black tea under personal Ayurvedic recommendations?
This recipe elevated my Chai experience. Thank you Dr Lad for all the ways you have healed the world. .
So is it good to have black Tea or milk tea , isn't harmful for body ,
Shud we drink tea
Just curious as a beginner... Cardamom is cooling. Cinnamon is warming. I.e they are opposites. So, can they be used together?
lovely recipe and video of GuruJi. Same as what we make at home, except without milk as adding milk to tea leaves removes all the benefits of them.
Sir, I have been watching your ayurvedic lectures, discussions; great you have posted this very useful Chai recipie; pranams, regards, Many thanks.
Such a beautiful way of explanation of making tea Dr Lad.proud of you sir 🙏🙏
Dear Dr. Lad thank you so much for showing us the original Chai recipe. Let's try to prepare it ourselves. Namaste.
Thank you. Much gratitude for sharing your routine and knowledge.
Namaskaram Guruji, what is the significance of adding milk to the chai. I feel like it is disturbing the whole essence of the decoction. May be, we are adding the milk as we get used to it out of ignorance and so we continue to have that kick. Please clarify the truth behind adding the milk to chai. Thank you.
Wondering, doesn't tea block iron absorption? What is the right way to consume tea, like not to eat anything with tea, like khakhara OR before/after consuming tea how long one should wait to eat meal, breakfast etc.
Appreciate your insights and inputs 🙏
Plants do not have spirits and are not deity. You really think a cinnamon stick is a god? Repent for this is idolatry and worship the true and living God who created these wonderful plants for our healing, sustenance and enjoyment.
Brilliant ❤❤❤ Dr Lad Sir……Respect
I give the one true God thanks for the beautiful plants he has created for our pleasure
Can you tell how to remove bitterness from tea when making . When ever I make tea there is bitterness ?

What a wonderful demonstration and reminder to bring our awareness with us in our daily lives. Thank you, Dr. Lad.
Also if you put a small piece of bread into your turbinado sugar canister it will keep the sugar from hardening. I use a small slice of sourdough and it does the trick. :)
Love your recipe, presentation and channel. Thank you 🙏
Too much milk 😮this is not 2. Tablespoon?
tea looks great but really strong. Not good for Vata Dosha.
I love your content Dr Lad. Namaste

With due respect I am just sharing traditional Maharashtrian morning tea recipe . It says never boil black tea. Add tea powder after a rolling boil and turn off heat, put lid and wait 5 min, then add milk and sugar to taste. Boiling tea releases more tannins. Science supports this as well. Definitely prevents tanned guts! Search without prejudice.
what's bad about tannins?
@@claudiaconrad5754 Tannins are good, they do not pause any health issues, they are anti-oxidising in nature. Tannins also remove harmful microbes from the body, and fight against harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi etc.. so its a bonus actually
Tannins are astringent so too much can lower absorption and affect gut flora health
Thank you, I will do this. 😊
After adding milk and sugar do i turn on the stove?
Such a lovely presentation in every way. The background, the elegance of each container, the music and of course the presence of Dr. Lad.
Much much much gratitude for sharing,😊this way i can do meditation doctor, stay blessed 🙌 always
