As an engineer I disapprove of this message. It is not 'special' to make a car drive properly with practically unlimited weight, size and such a high price bracket at hand. Still like the video though, great presentation and proper explanation of the car for what it is.
“If it couldn’t do the Range Rover I would have not be bothered to drive it” should be the tag line and to me (far from having the deep pockets to buy one) make this SV a car to like. Thanks as always.
The reason why there was a left hand drive and a right hand drive was probably down to the right hand drive got stolen just outside of Birmingham. He was secretly tracking in down across Europe, making out it was a 'track day'.
2001 AHC equipped land cruisers have hydraulic suspension which includes anti dive,.anti squat, anti roll, with height adjustable across 5" of travel and 4 different power settings including off road and high speed.
Given the fact that the stated point of differentiation here is the off-road ability, I'd like to see that tested in the review. Yes, it was taken down some tracks, but I've driven the roads shown in the film (and far steeper and more remote) in an underpowered 2wd Fiat Panda hire car without an issue, so that case hasn't yet been made for me...
A Russian channel AcademeG compared the previous svr against an Lexus lx570 (essentially a Land cruiser lc200) the svr went everywhere the lc200 went with less effort. It easily beat the lc200 on every hillclimb due to it's diffs and power. Both cars had smaller wheels with similar at tires.
Interesting car but too expensive for what it is. Personally if I was after a performance SUV I would be looking across the dealership at a Jaguar F Pace SVR. it might be a bit smaller but on paper it's 90% the capability of this Range Rover for 60% of the price (and you can probably get some discount on the Jag too).
Good video, as always but jeez I can’t build any enthusiasm for this. So much so that all I can think is “how much will that 6d system cost to repair when it starts to break eventually”.
There will only be 675 Range rover sport SV Edition 1s in the world. In 2025,26 the regular sport SV will come out with a slightly lower price tag and there will be more built then
Because car companies need to respect the total fleet emission quota by government and / or by making this a limited series, they can ask way more for it. It really is a strategy these days.
Very true! For all the hate on Tesla fit and finish, at least their cars are near bulletproof and maintenance free. I wish the Range Rover could give up a few marks on "quality" to gain more "reliability".@@myhandlewastakenandIgaveup
Definitely blurs the lines from the opposite direction. I'd argue the Serrato or Dakar make those respective cars more usable (even in a daily driving scenario), whereas this RR SV becomes less usable than it's base variant.
Honestly if you want this buy a used Aston Martin DBX or a X6M, paying so much for an X5 50i engine makes no sense to me I love Range Rover and I think the hybrid version is the best version

All that being said...another great Hagerty video. Henry is awesome.
Seriously……why does this exist? It’s not going to be as good as a standard car for off road and it’s inferior to something like an M3 estate on road. Yea….nah not for me.
It exists because there is a public that will buy it, if you are land rover, why would you turn your back to a large segment of the public with lots of money, just because a minority is asking for MuH WaGOnS
Having had an e90 m3 and an X5m I agree with you that the M3 is certainly more dynamic and better on road than a “super SUV.” That said, the X5m was genuinely fun to drive, faster than my m3 and could deal with snow and some light off-roading where the m3 was hopeless in snow (long story, was only car and had to and it was quite the white knuckle drive). I think the absurdity of what the suv could do and its exaggerated dynamics with its high seating position led to a more “silly” fun driving experience.
It’s the jump in price over the previous SVR model. ~£60k. That’s a lot. It’s a superb car, I’d have one over the Aston DBX any day of the week. Better looking without a doubt. And still a genuine off roader.
Carwow very recently tested the new Range Rover Sport SV and it already had to visit the repair shop for a failure of the transfercase. Land Rover has consistently been building unreliable vehicles. Never change Land Rover 🤣🤣🤣
The Xantia Activa was more mechanical. The 6D setup isn't all that different to what is in the McLaren, with zero anti-roll bars, and the diagonally linked suspension.
It’s commendable what they’ve achieved with such a large vehicle, but I still really don’t get this ongoing trend by car companies to make SUVs ‘sporty’. SUVs are marketed to and mainly bought by families as ‘people carriers’. 99.9% of the time they are used to drop the kids off at school, go grocery shopping, family road trips and towing a trailer. I’d highly doubt that even the remaining 0.1% of drivers would take them to a track day or cruise a B road for the sake of a sporty drive. Adding a ‘Sport’ badge to something like an SUV will make it sound cooler than the standard version to a lot of buyers so they’ll feel they need to buy that one in order to get the better handling version even though they’ll drive it no different to a non sport version. It is impressive that this hulking great car can move but let’s be real, no Range Rover Sport owner is ever going to drive it like this.
I agree, but I don't want a car that is not "sporty" whatever its size. I dislike the ride height but at least I don't need to worry about clearance from snow etc. as well as having room for a family trip across Europe, while enjoying the way it drives.
