Many wondered how Jim Henson and crew convinced Orson Welles to make a cameo, the answer was simple: they didn't. It turns out Welles and his family were Muppet fans, and he was happy to make an appearance. Welles even had Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Kermit, and Fozzie as guest stars on his talk show pilot, which sadly wasn't picked up.

    • @daniexists6

He even drew Kermit fanart for Jim during the production of The Muppet Movie.

"Surprisingly meta?" You don't know the half of it!
The whole movie is LITERALLY a retelling of "how the muppets met" with certain beats and characters representing Jim Henson and company's own career paths on their way to making this very movie! (There's a reason the villain of the piece wants Kermit to stick to advertising!)

Man that’s so cool. I used to watch this movie constantly as a child and it just worked as a good kids film back then. But to know it’s basically a road trip comedy about the show I loved as a kid with real world ties to the creators I adore as an adult is poetically beautiful.

Remember seeing this for the first time before “The Muppets” (2011) so I’d have some context on the revamp and immediately falling in love with the franchise. The gang meeting Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem will never get old for me lol

4:21 is my favourite shot in the movie. It conveys "Done with your crap" while the bad guys would see it as "This broad is crazy!" It says "fed up" and "nuts" at the same time, and it's done by only adjusting Miss Piggy's face a little bit. That's amazing.

This was probably my favorite Muppet movie as a kid! Decades later I still remember many of the scenes and songs! I mean, the Great Muppet Caper, Muppets Take Manhattan, and the some of the others were great, but, to me, this movie felt like the best representation of the Muppets. It was a Muppets origin story and it had great pacing, the songs were good, the jokes were corny (but cute) and it just had so much heart poured into it. It also was just a fun movie that anyone could enjoy young or old!

  • @austinmitchell2652

God. Damn. I am so pumped for this series. As a kid I watched this one and Treasure Island the most (Also From Space but not as much).
To this day my dad and I still laugh about and quote the moment when they enter the church and see the band, and Fozzy says "They don't look like Presbyterians to me"
ALSO I always gotta give props for the new cinematic Junko techniques. Big props for the Nostalgia Critic gag, and what I assume was you projecting the movie on a wall to emulate bootleg theater recording, which is an absolutely genius move.

Okay, tmi, but I gotta share this bro:
A thought that always makes me tear up a little inside is that, according to family lore, this exact movie was the last ever piece of cinema my grandpa gary (who I never got to meet because he sadly passed away long before I was ever even a thought) ever watched/experienced in life. He passed away from a heart attack caused by faulty heart pills sometime in 1980 when my dad was only 10 years old. When I get to Heaven someday, I'm def gonna ask him what he thought about this film, but I have a theory that he genuinely loved this film, and my reasoning is cuz I know his all-time favorite film was Christopher Reeves 1st Superman film, I happen to think he really enjoyed this movie.
But anyways, that's just another reason why I love this goofy awesome film. I feel kinda connected to it in a way through what I know about my grandpa's life, a man I never met, but who I most likely would've absolutely loved to have hungout with.
