    I think one of Disney's mistakes is always trying to do sonething over the top with them. Yes, they're chaotic a lot of the time, but there's a lot of quieter moments too that round them out, like when Kermit talks to himself in the desert or when everyone temporarily splits up in Muppets Take Manhattan. I want more of those kinds of Muppet moments and unfortunately I dont think Disney is capable of any kind of sincerity anymore.
    What makes The Muppets themselves, imo, is that they're essentially a community theater troope who stays together because they like to put on shows despite the ups and downs. Except for Miss Piggy, they're fairly humble characters, and Disney doesn't get it.

    I adore the Muppets, I grew up watching the show, then the movies and all the spin-offs, I think that Jim Henson was a genius as were all the cast and crew that made the Muppets what they are (Not so much some of the ones in the last handful of years, though The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted were fun).
    Gonzo has been one of my favorites since the beginning, so when Muppets from Space came out, I drank it up! I love that movie so much, I relate to it and to Gonzo, never really feeling quite a part of life, always being the outsider, being the weird one in both family and friend circles. So that movie touched me in a really deep way, and I do tear up still even after watching and rewatching it for years. It will always hold a very special place in my heart.

    This is a great first video. You've already set the algorithm on fire. It's not often I get recommended someone's very first video. Either you cheated the system, and completely manipulated the AI, or you got very, very lucky. But if you keep it up with this level of quality video (hopefully about more than just the Muppets), than you'll become bigger than Mr beast in no time, and you'll completely forget about all the little people who got you there.

    For that Muppet Avengers crossover, I'm thinking Kermit would fit better for Captain America, and Animal would be Hulk.
    I would also love to see the Swedish Chef as Thor, Gonzo as Iron Man, Scooter as Hawkeye, Fozzie as Nick Fury, Janice as Black Widow, Miss Piggy as Captain Marvel, Bunson as Vision, and Rizzo as Ant-Man, and I'm thinking that the title would either be called “The Muppet Avengers” or “A MARVELous Muppets Adventure to Save the World.”
    As for the storyline, I’m thinking that after a successive show, the Muppets discover Beaker has been kidnapped by a mysterious supervillain who is trying to destroy their theatre, and that they discover a music box that turns them into the Avengers; Kermit becomes Captain America by wielding a Vibranium shield, Gonzo gets equipped with an Iron Man suit, the Swedish Chef is able to wield Thor's hammer, and Fozzie becomes the new director of SHIELD, and they all unexpectedly join forces with the Avengers. It is up to the two heroic teams to save Beaker from this mysterious villain before their theatre gets destroyed.

    The Muppets franchise was a lot better prior to the Disney buyout when Sony was distributing most of the films. It was clear that Jim Henson was very anxious about the Disney negotiations and the fact that Jeffery Katzenburg and Michael Eisner were practically breathing in his ears about a potential buyout. Frank Oz even thinks that the stress over the Disney buyout is what killed Jim.
    When you consider Jim’s stress that came with this Disney buyout, I believe that sticking to Sony Pictures as the Muppet’s primary distributor would have been a much better decision. The relationship between the two entities started with Muppets take Manhattan, and it was clearly working. But no.

    • @retroruckus
      @retroruckus  Год назад +5

      That’s an interesting point. I would argue that a lot of their longevity is owed to Disney, however you feel about the recent projects. I think Kermit’s Swamp Years and A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (and that naked Animal merch) show where the direction of the Muppets was headed with Sony. Perhaps without the massive success of their 2011 theatrical return, their relevancy would be a bit more boiled down to a thing of the past.

      Cripes, every time I hear about Disney buying out something I love, I get nervous.
      The very worst instance I ever heard of was when Walt himself and his goons kept pestering the author P. L. Travers for the rights to a Mary Poppins movie, and she kept turning them down because she was afraid they'd mess it up. After YEARS of badgering, she finally gave in, they made a "Mary Poppins" movie, she hated it, and spent the rest of her life denouncing Walt and the Disney Corporation for ruining her character . . .
      . . . But that's not the worst part.
      The worst part is, the Disney Corp. waited until after she died -- so she couldn't defend herself or set the record straight, natch -- to make a smear film called "Saving Mr. Banks," in which Kindly Old Uncle Walt (who loves absolutely everyone), calmly, gently, and caringly talks the shrill, stubborn, emotionaly damaged Travers into making the Mary Poppins movie, purely so he could bring joy to the children of the world. 🤮🤮🤮 Typical Hollywood history-rewriting.

    • @MuppetCore
      @MuppetCore Год назад +1

      I love and respect Frank Oz, but blaming “the stress of the Disney deal” for Jim’s death is dubious. Jim Henson was a grown man. He wanted to sell the company to Disney. Disney, or whatever “stress” came with a $150 million business deal, did not kill Jim Henson. An untreated bacterial infection that ravaged his body in a matter of days is what killed him.
      As for Sony, the Muppets Take Manhattan came out in ‘84 (before TriStar was even owned by Sony). Sony and Henson formed Jim Henson Pictures in the mid-90s. Three pictures came out of that-Buddy, MFS, and Grouchland-they all BOMBED. Though I guess Sony had some success distributing Henson stuff on video during that same period. In ‘03, when Henson was up for sale by EMTV, Sony was reportedly bankrolling a bid for Henson by Classic Media (now DreamWorks Classics) and Sesame Workshop, but that was thwarted when the Hensons stepped in.

      @@MuppetCore I don't know where you're coming with this "grown man" nonsense, like grown men shouldn't ever have emotions when their entire life's legacy is being aggressively bought out from under them by a rapacious company that screws up every property it buys from the original creators.

    In December of 2020, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Lynch in regards to The Next Muppet Movie's script over on Twitter. One of the few details he divulged to me was that the audition scenes in which Kermit found the more obscure Muppets was to involve "Muppets that hadn't been seen or heard from in decades."
    I had questioned those cameos meant going all the way back to the days of the vintage Jim Henson commercials of the 1960s or even Sam & Friends-- but Lynch did confirm that the cameos weren't going to consist of Muppets from that far back. Aside from that, he didn't reveal much else. I personally think they should've gone with this movie in 1998-99 instead of Muppets From Space.
