  • In this video I will be updating this 9 drawer Mid Century Modern dresser and transforming it into a piece that will last for years to come. It did need some repairs and a fresh coat of paint to compliment the new wood stain color. I’m super excited with the way this piece came out and I hope you enjoy my work.

      Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. Choosing a stain really depends on the wood you’re dealing with, but my go to is red mahogany, dark walnut and a lighter stain such and special walnut and a lighter oak color. With those you can layer and make lighter or darker color with either brown or brown red.

    60 years ago my Aunt & Uncle had built a huge gigantic garage, it was 2 stories high & you could have parked 6 to 8 cars in it. What they built it for was to do furniture apolstery & refinishing in. They used to use furniture strippers as well. I do notice though that people on You Tube don't really use as much of it as my Aunt & Uncle did. They would use double, triple, or quadruple what You Tubers use & it stripped the finish off totally in 1 coat & it did not dry out in 15 minutes. There was way too much of it to dry that quickly. You could take a plastic scraper & scrape it clean without having to work so hard to get all the finish off. You never had to sand any of it off because the stripper got it all off. You only had to sand to smoothe the wood down & prepare it for paint or new stain. My cousins & I were always fascinated with the chemical reaction during the process. We loved to help scrape it off . Which we were occasionally allowed to do under very close supervision.

      @CedarPineDesigns  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for the compliment. I truly appreciate your advice. I definitely wanted to have them contrast a lot darker but the customer wanted it more matching. Thank you s much. For this piece and any piece of similar size I spend about 5-7 hours total over the course of 2-3 days depending on the design. I price my pieces according to my area and what others price there’s at. But it also depends on the quality of the piece. There’s so much involved in pricing so I just start on the high end and work my way down if I have to.

    What do you use to clean your paint spray receptacle of residue?

    • @CedarPineDesigns
      @CedarPineDesigns  2 года назад +1

      I use either lacquer thinner or water. I clean after each coat so that it doesn’t get a chance to dry up in my gun.

    I would have spent a little more time on the scallops on the top drawers to highlight them. they are the real focus of the piece. the white is (in my opinion) too much of a contrast , and i would have chosen a more neutral color.

      Thank you so much for the constructive criticism. I always love to hear what people think and would do differently. Me personally even though the client let me do what I wanted, they still had a few requests. No dark paint and all the wood to be consistent. I wanted to have the scallops more darker and pronounced them the drawers and the white I would have like to do black because that’s my favorite color combo.
      But I also think of my content at the same time and don’t want to put out the same videos with the same colors and be to repetitive. Thank you again for sharing. Take care and have a happy new year.

    Why do you have to strip ... can you just sand without stripping?

      I could but then it would take a lot longer

    Did you use latex paint?

  • @VerdantImage

    Try putting stripper on a little heavier. Not good to let it dry out

      Thank you so much for the advice. I think I was trying to be sparingly with it when I do need to pack it on.

Was planning to do some sort of off white on the body and restain the drawers also but not sure yet. Oh and we’re now subscribed 😁 check out our channel when you get a chance, the pieces are literally shown in our most recent video lol

      That’s so weird. I’ve never met anybody in my life with my last name. Gummo is such a rare name to come across. And then you redo furniture and have the same piece. What are the odds?

    Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
