- In this video I will be updating this 9 drawer Mid Century Modern dresser and transforming it into a piece that will last for years to come. It did need some repairs and a fresh coat of paint to compliment the new wood stain color. I’m super excited with the way this piece came out and I hope you enjoy my work.

Interesting piece. Next summer my treasure piece will be stained and painted emerald green for our new house. So this video was inspirational
Thank you. I’m glad it was helpful
Very beautiful piece.. You did an amazing job.. I would have preferred the entire dresser with the wood stain used on top and drawers.
Thank you so much. All stain original restoration was the plan but unfortunately there’s was to many defects so I had to paint a little.
Great job! Very classy
Tha m you brother. I appreciate your kind words.
Beautiful piece. I wouldn't have chosen white for it but hey, that's just a personal preference thing. Love that stain. Bet it was a royal pain to sand all those channels. Well done.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Those channels definitely were a challenge. As for the white, my client didn’t want anything dark, so I just went with a classic white.
@@CedarPineDesigns Classic for a reason. Lot of people love it.
Thank you again. Have a happy new year
@@CedarPineDesigns You too. Hope it's your best one yet. Looking forward to seeing what pieces you'll be working your magic on in '22.
@@bluecurlygirl I have at least 15 pieces rite now. I just have to get to them.
Absolutely gorgeous Samuel 🥰👍
Thank you so much. I’m very much appreciative of your positive feedback. Take care and have a happy new year
X turned out gorgeous……..God bless you in all your endeavors!
Thank you so much!
You did an amazing job on this piece and what I wouldn't die for to get my hands on a piece like this. It made me think would it be possible using my router to carve that design....Lucky find I would say. Beautiful finish.
You could use a router but would need some type of template
AMAZING TRANSFORMATION!!!
Thank you so much. I’m glad you think so
So beautiful and timeless finish! I’m not good with choosing stain colors so I’m learning from you…
Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. Choosing a stain really depends on the wood you’re dealing with, but my go to is red mahogany, dark walnut and a lighter stain such and special walnut and a lighter oak color. With those you can layer and make lighter or darker color with either brown or brown red.
@@CedarPineDesigns I will try!! Thanks
@@zonyasvintage7859 no problem
Another beautiful makeover Samuel.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the support
A lot of work, amazing with the white, love te staan 👍
Thank you so much for the compliment. I really appreciate it. Take care and have a happy new year.
Gorgeous, the combination made the wood look like leather, soft and velvety.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I hadn’t thought of it in that way but that makes a lot of sense after looking at it. Take care and have a happy new year.
Just 😲. I love two-toned looks. Especially pieces that have some type of decorative element on the drawer fronts.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you like my work and the pieces I work on. Take care and have a wonderful new year.
You probably already know this, but if you cover the paint stripper with saran wrap (cling film here in the UK) then it stops it from drying too quickly. Love how this piece turned out :)
That is a super awesome idea and I didn’t even know this. Very good tip. Thank you so much for the advice and compliment. Take care.
@@CedarPineDesigns also use a bit thicker coat of stripper before you cover with saran wrap. This combo works like a charm. Loved how this turned out. You’ve got a new sub.
@@apfarms8612 thank you so much. I appreciate the support as well as all the advice. I’m still learning the art of furniture makeovers and restoration so any tips I can get are always useful to me. Thank you again
Awesome! I love this piece.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful job, I saw this exact dresser on ig just a minute ago. Hope I can get my hands on one of these beauties, it is gorgeous.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Definitely is a good looking dresser. I wish I had to room to keep some of these projects. You’ll get one.
If you could get hold of a router, that top row of drawers might be easy to replicate, on a plain dresser.
@@lizh1988 it is possible. It’s just figure out how to make a jig for it.
That piece turned out so classy,,,,, beautiful
Thank you so much for the compliment. Take care and have a happy new year

They are original to the piece and the client wanted it to stay that way.

Love this piece. Very professional and great job! Looks fantastic.
Thank you so much Kathaleen. I really appreciate your kind words. Take care.
Samuel, this piece came out amazing. Watching this video I was not sure if the white would make it look to country (there is nothing wrong with country) but it did not at all. It’s beautiful!
Thank you so much. I’m so glad you like the way it turned out. I was hoping for the same thing. Take care.
All your pieces amaze me your so talented ! Just beautiful ! Keep up the awesome work . I look forward to all of your videos .

Beautiful job Bro!!!!!!! This is absolutely stunning, keep up the great work!!!!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your support and compliment. It means a lot when people can appreciate the work I do. Take care and have a happy new year.
it's neat, but I think if you replace the white paint with black paint it's even more beautiful
Evelien, I couldn’t agree more. I absolutely love black paint, but the client wanted white or something really light. Stain and black are my favorite color combo.
Just found your channel tonight while browsing. And SO happy I did! This dresser turned out absolutely gorgeous. I love how the stain looks two toned on the top drawers. I subscribed and will definitely be back to watch more!
Wow. Thank you so much for the compliment and support. It really means a lot to me that you enjoy my content and my work. I’m blown away that I’m getting this type of positive feedback and definitely motivates me to continue to make these videos. Thank you again and take care.
Little tip! Put more stripper on for it to come off fully. Looks amazing 👏 😍
Thank you so much for the compliment and advice. I’ll definitely add more next time. Take care.
Very nice.
Thank you Kim
Turned out beautifully. The wood and white combine well. Pleasing and calming colors. Why did you not add drawer pulls to all the drawers? Customer preference?
Thank you so much. I didn’t want to drill into the drawers and keep it original
It looks really good. And I'm not really into midcentury mod, but I like what you did. Great job. 👍
Thank you so much. The fact that I took a style you don’t particularly like I appreciate that you still like my work. Stay tuned for my next video, I’m not going mid Century on my next project.
Awesome peice.
Thank you so much
60 years ago my Aunt & Uncle had built a huge gigantic garage, it was 2 stories high & you could have parked 6 to 8 cars in it. What they built it for was to do furniture apolstery & refinishing in. They used to use furniture strippers as well. I do notice though that people on You Tube don't really use as much of it as my Aunt & Uncle did. They would use double, triple, or quadruple what You Tubers use & it stripped the finish off totally in 1 coat & it did not dry out in 15 minutes. There was way too much of it to dry that quickly. You could take a plastic scraper & scrape it clean without having to work so hard to get all the finish off. You never had to sand any of it off because the stripper got it all off. You only had to sand to smoothe the wood down & prepare it for paint or new stain. My cousins & I were always fascinated with the chemical reaction during the process. We loved to help scrape it off . Which we were occasionally allowed to do under very close supervision.
That’s so awesome. I love when people share there stories with me. I wish I had that much space to do my work. I have so much work and pieces to do that are coming up. Thank you for the advice and I definitely will add way more next time. Thank you again and take care. Have a happy new year.
Amazing
Thank you so much
All I can say is WOW ☺️ godbless from Jane x
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your support and compliment. Take care
White paint on those half circles would've made the peice pop
I wanted to do some contrast but the customer didn’t really like the idea.
Beautiful piece! That took much patience and skill to strip and sand! The interior of the scallops look unfinished to me. I would have tried getting more stain in there with a q tip or something so they looked more uniform. They probably would have looked darker but that would have been okay.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I truly appreciate your advice. I definitely wanted to have them contrast a lot darker but the customer wanted it more matching. The reason I believe it took the stain differently is because the scalloped grooves didn’t have the veneer like the surface. I’ll definitely give the smaller areas such as that more attention in the future. Thank you again and take care.
@@CedarPineDesigns gotta make the customer happy!
Very nice :-)
Thank you so much
Subscribed absolutely beautiful that thing was a mess when you got it. Nice profit.
Thank you so much for the compliment and support. It means the world to me and I really appreciate it. Take care and have a happy new year.
My name is Gean, I live here in Itaquera, São Paulo, SP, Brazil.
You did a beautiful and wonderful restoration, congratulations.
What country are you from .....
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate the positive feedback.
I live in the United States California
Another great piece. Any thoughts on using a more durable finish on the wood like a laquer or varathane? Love the tinting of the varathane...something I will be using.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your support. I haven’t considered any other top coat as of now because the water based poly dried very quickly allowing me to do more coats in a day.
@@CedarPineDesigns sorry...I didn't see you topcoat the stained wood. I thought you just left it with a wax finish.
@@chrismalcolm8804 yes. You’re correct. I was referring to your comment about the tinting of top coat. I did use a wax for the top on this one because I wanted to bring out the color of the stain a bit more.
I love your technique and the products you use. Any reason why you don’t use chalk paint 🎨?
Thank you so much the ninth hour. I typically go with latex because I get it with a built in primer as well as use primer in some cases. It’s a bit cheaper but I’ve been wanting to try it out but have to research if it’s compatible with my spray gun.
@@CedarPineDesigns welcome 🤗 chalk paint is not easy to work with nor is the wax you use with it. I’m a restoration artist so I’m always looking to be better. I love 💕 your videos. BTW other restoration artist have told me that when they use chalk paint in a sprayer they waste a lot of the chalk paint.
@@SimplySage854 thank you so much for the info. I’m fairly new to this so I’m still learning and any knowledge I can get from anyone, I’d love to hear it. What have you found to be the best option as far as paint. So far I haven’t had any trouble using latex water based paint as long as I use a polyurethane top coat
@@CedarPineDesigns same here. Latex water base paint is a lot easier to work with, and it’s less expensive than chalk paint. The benefits of chalk paint are less sanding and not having to remove veneer
@@SimplySage854 thank you for the response
I started watching your videos a couple of months ago and really enjoy them. I love your style, I'm hoping to find an old dresser and re-do it with your look. Just wondering, what kind of respirator do you use?
Thank you so much. I’m more then flattered that you enjoy my work as well as my videos. The respirator I use is more of a 2 stage dust mask and I would suggest getting a nice 3m respirator from Home Depot.
This looks amazing. How many hours did you spend on it? It's so hard to know what to charge for custom pieces.
Thank you s much. For this piece and any piece of similar size I spend about 5-7 hours total over the course of 2-3 days depending on the design. I price my pieces according to my area and what others price there’s at. But it also depends on the quality of the piece. There’s so much involved in pricing so I just start on the high end and work my way down if I have to.
What do you use to clean your paint spray receptacle of residue?
I use either lacquer thinner or water. I clean after each coat so that it doesn’t get a chance to dry up in my gun.
I would have spent a little more time on the scallops on the top drawers to highlight them. they are the real focus of the piece. the white is (in my opinion) too much of a contrast , and i would have chosen a more neutral color.
Thank you so much for the constructive criticism. I always love to hear what people think and would do differently. Me personally even though the client let me do what I wanted, they still had a few requests. No dark paint and all the wood to be consistent. I wanted to have the scallops more darker and pronounced them the drawers and the white I would have like to do black because that’s my favorite color combo.
But I also think of my content at the same time and don’t want to put out the same videos with the same colors and be to repetitive. Thank you again for sharing. Take care and have a happy new year.
Why do you have to strip ... can you just sand without stripping?
I could but then it would take a lot longer
Did you use latex paint?
Yes. With polyurethane over top
Try putting stripper on a little heavier. Not good to let it dry out
Thank you so much for the advice. I think I was trying to be sparingly with it when I do need to pack it on.
why the white ?
Customer request
Does anyone know the name of this style of dresser?
The name of the collection or the style?
@@CedarPineDesigns collection im sorry
Install was easy, however
Love how the piece turned out! We have the highboy also to the piece. Got them off the side of the road! Was planning to do some sort of off white on the body and restain the drawers also but not sure yet. Oh and we’re now subscribed 😁 check out our channel when you get a chance, the pieces are literally shown in our most recent video lol
That’s so awesome. And to have found them discarded on the side of the road. What a find. I subbed and an definitely going to check out your work.
@@CedarPineDesigns thank you followed you on Instagram also. Gonna check out a few more of your videos 🙂
@@diytainment much appreciated. Take care
Okay this is weird. U have my last name and we have the exact same dresser we’re planning to work on 🤣
That’s so weird. I’ve never met anybody in my life with my last name. Gummo is such a rare name to come across. And then you redo furniture and have the same piece. What are the odds?
Samuels is my last name that’s what I meant sorry 😅
@@diytainment no worries. That’s still pretty cool though. Keep flipping. I just watched like 4 of your videos. Love em man.
I don’t like the white paint on MCM….
That’s ok. It’s not for everyone
Il mobile è stato restaurato alla perfezione, solo il colore Bianco a contrasto stona un po', questo è per i miei gusti naturalmente,,
Thank you so much. White was not my choice
I like the color black with the original wooden color, which is often much nicer chicker richer and more expensive.
I would have preferred it black as well but the client wanted white
Bonito trabajo, pero los cajones de arriba son demasiado feos
Thank you so much
Это не реставрация,а дерьмо.Pardon за мой французский...
Humm? No!
Well the customer says yeah. Which is the only opinion that matters
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
Thank you
Beautiful!
Thank you so much. Have a great day
