Jay, I am seeing this video 2 years after you produced it. It is incredible seeing your progress as a restoration maker . Working in your backyard with a few tools to having a fully equipped workshop with cat supervisors. Being shy in front of the camera and only seeing your hands to you being a comedian. You have come a long way man in the 2 years.
I’d like to say I’m surprised with how this turned out given the beginning. But let’s be real, Jay, the day you don’t finish with something incredible is the day I’ll be surprised. Beautifully done.
If this was a musical concert, it would have received a standing ovation… or two! Unbelievably beautiful, such skill! Thank you, it was a delight to watch!
The mark on the wood is called a "Utility Mark". It appears on a lot of items produced in the UK during the 1940s. During WWII, imported materials were limited and only used to manufacture items that were most needed. First time I came across it was on some woollen underwear(!) but my parents were both children during the war, so they were able to tell me what it meant. Your chest of drawers manufacturer must have been already stocked up on mahogany before the shortages of imported materials!
Interesting about the CC41 utility mark- I Wiki'd it and read about it. So you can date your dresser to between 1941 and 1951. It's just lovely, thanks for saving it.
Mahogany + beeswax = Celebration!! Gosh, the colours and depth of colour in that wood has me drooling! It's gorgeous. And the dovetail joints of the drawers are a lovely feature in the contrasting woods. You made so many good decisions here, to make the most of the materials at hand to sort out issues and problems... I've not seen anyone do that before and I'm well impressed. A lovely, lovely job. 🤓👍👍👏👏👏👍👍🤓
Love your perfectionism! You are dealing with an inside and the back of the dresser, a lot of youtube furniture restorators dont do that cuz nobody will see that. Love youre attention to the details. That was awesome!
That is a War time 'UTILITY' Dressing Table made between 1941 - 1951. The CC 41 stands for 'Civilian Clothing', and the 41 denotes the date. Info from a book about UTILITY Furniture and Fashion. You made a great job of it and it's good to see it live on for many more years. Well done 🙂
Well, I must say, you did luck out in finding a piece of solid Mahogany. But this piece was just waiting to be discovered by you. You brought her back to her glory days and she can once again be the beauty that she was originally.. all of your pieces are works of art. Magnificent!!!
I cannot stop staring at the end results. Oh my Lord. This turned out so absolutely stunning. Your attention to detail to not just the outside appearance, but inside too is so wonderful to see. You are truly an artist and a savior for bringing life back to these pieces.
The results of this restoration/flip almost brought tears to my eyes! Beautiful work and the addition of the brass inlay and legs were the perfect finishing touches.
This is so gorgeous😍😍. I can't believe that was solid mahogany under those drawers. The dovetails with the mahogany contrast were just so good. The little trim details you added to the top reusing the bottom - on point. The pop of brass on the sides with the black to contrast. I just love this piece. Its so good Jay!
When you said it was solid mahogany, I thought "And they painted it?" After you sanded the top,I noticed how pretty the grain was. Then you brushed on the oxalic acid, which really made that grain pop, and I couldn't wait to see the finished piece. It was well worth the wait. Simply stunning.
I watch a lot of these restorations, and I'm confident to say that you are one with impeccable taste and who respects a quality timber grain. The care taken inside the draws is commonly overlooked, however you took as much care for the inside as you did the outside. That brass inlay strip was a phenomenal touch.
That mahogany is super beautiful. I'm glad the people who had it before you had painted it, because then it stayed at the side of the road, waiting for you to do your Magic!
Absolutely love the outcome!! This is a lot more than just a simple flip, so makes sense that you would keep it. Plus it’s too beautiful to sell 🥰 ( loved the mirror trick by the way )
One of the most beautiful transformation that I’ve ever seen…gorgeous wood, nice paint and somptuous metallic trim detail. You’re a pro. Thank you for sharing your work, skills and passion with us
Some long gone woodworker lives again with his labor acknowledged, the light shining upon him and his creation. What could be better company as you have this in your home. Thank you.
The 'CC' mark was put on furniture produced in UK during and after ww2 when wood was scarce. As I understand they rationed what furniture was made due to ensure they maximised raw materials. Pieces with the CC mark were always of good construction and sold at reasonable price. I understand after the war you could only by a piece of furniture if you were in definite need. Thanks for your great videos - from Birmingham England🇬🇧
I enjoyed seeing your tools and how you use them no end. Your technical and creative skills are a delight. You picked an excellent ugly duckling and turned it into a swan On a personal level, you couldn’t pay me to take that particular swan home, but that’s just an aesthetic preference. I’ll be back to enjoy more of your offerings
It makes me so happy to see a great piece like that brought back from the brink. I can’t help but think that could have been someone’s wedding present back in the day and you breathed a new chapter of life into it. Agreed with someone else who commented that the dresser thanks you for your effort. I’m glad it was you who found it.
I was thrilled to hear that the drawers were made from mahogany. They cleaned up very well with all of your hard work. Another saved piece of furniture that you will enjoy for many years. Brilliantly done!! 🙂
I like that you spend the time to restore beautiful wood so often. Painting can be very pretty and sometimes when the wood is too damaged it just makes sense, but sometimes it's just an abomination to paint beautiful wooden furniture pieces.
This ended up completely stunning. The refinished dresser is beautiful. I'm happy this video turned up on my recommend list. I'm going to dig through and have a look at your other work. Thank you.
Attention to detail is incredible. The interior of the drawers is beautiful! I watch a lot of furniture restorations (like every night to relax) but this one blows me away.
O M G!!🤯🤯🤯 Not that I had any doubt in your transformation abilities, but what incredible wood grain to find under that paint too!! Then the brass inlay took it to a whole new level (and your new tool is really cool)!! Amazing transformation, Jay! She is a showstopper!💜 #uglyducklingchallenge
Just…wow! It almost looked like a painted metal drawer set in the beginning. Exquisite work and I especially love that you brought this old gem back to life and it didn’t end up in a land fill. So beautiful!
THAT is a save and a half, it looked so rough when you first found it and you turned into something so great! what a pretty piece! I totally love the handles you used too, they are in perfect keeping with the feel of the piece. You put so much effort and so much skill into all you do! I dont know how you maintain the schedule you do with working, going to school and these wonderful restorations...I so admire your hard work. I love the way this came out, as always? Excellent work!
I've just discovered you, and I'm so glad to have done so. You are an amazing artist. I would never have dreamed that all of this beauty was just waiting to be revealed. Bravo!
You gave an unloved piece of furniture of more than 70 years old, left by the roadside a new lease of life. If it could speak it would say; thank you thank you thank you 😄
I love seeing people find joy in restoring things most people would dismiss as unsalvageable; especially nowadays when everything is treated as disposable
Amazing work as always, Karol. I always love seeing the way wood comes alive when you use feed n wax. It's so beautiful to watch. Props to you for saving this gem from the trash.
The beauty of the drawers with their dovetail joining is an achievement in itself! Compliments for this beautiful restauration... rather a re-creation!
I've just recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy to see you update that old furniture. It's great to see, what you do with these old pieces. Thanks for making this video's, I'm looking forward for the next one.
Unbelievable! Hard to imagine this is the same as the painted one at the beginning. I love folks who give old furniture a second life. Hard work but well worth it. 👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰

For something you found on the side of the road you turned it into a Masterpiece!!!

I love this channel. He doesn’t just slap paint on a project but repairs and restores and takes you along with him on the way. Wonderful!
Awesome 🤩 thanks
I can hear the dresser saying thank you.
It turned out so beautiful, the wood seems so alive again.
Thank you! Gladys😊 I love the result

This is a limited edition of one. Beautiful! I especially like that you clean, sand and wax EVERY surface of the items.
Thank you ☺️ and that’s the only way to do it in my opinion. That’s how I’d like someone to sell it to me.
The before and after pictures are always so shocking when a good job has been done. What an amazing transformation!
