I love the MIP hex wrenches. They were just under 70 dollars for 7 hex drivers when you buy the sets, and when the handles get slippery I use a paper towel in my hand. It gives a really satisfying squeak when you wrench on them and no more slip. I would love those Hudy tools but MIP all the way.
In my opinion, absolutely not. I use MIP tools and they're expensive enough for me, but they last much longer than many other tools that I've tried. I've been in this hobby for 15 years and I've never used the most expensive tools, but always got the job done no problem. I personally would much rather spend the money on tires, parts, maybe a spare esc.
My apologies, I should have used more simple words. I promise to do better in the future! Overpriced: yes * Made in China: no * Quality: good * Cheaper alternative from the same company: yes * Will tips wear: yes * Tip replacement tip: Arrowmax * Background information for people not into sarcasm/Do I like Hudy: no * Giving up on trying to be a helpful user on Internet 2.0: yes
I feel the pain, Jason. I've had a few of those types of purchases in my RC time. But like you said....$31 (on Amazon) for a metric MIP set and an AKA double play nut driver ($25) for a 5.5/7.0 and you're pretty set. EDS arm readers, JC body Reamer.... you can add a ProTek tool case for $20 and easily be under the $150
It's a great set I use everyday. You can get plastic handles with the same tips, so don't get if you can't afford. The tips are replaceable and do wear slowly, much less than other brands. Hudy spring steel is what you are mainly paying for, lasting 10x longer than cheaper metals.
You can get an 11 piece Snap-on chrome socket set for $150-200. When RC tools start costing the same as Snap-on, it's time to take a step back and ask yourself how badly you want them. For pros, using them every day, for multiple hours a day - sure! I don't think club racers are the target audience for this tool set, though. I've been using my AE driver set for a couple of years now, and, aside from having to tighten them up every couple of months, they're working like a charm. They become hard to hold on to when you have shock oil on your fingers, but that's something I can work around. That set was $55, and I had a damn hard time convincing myself to spend that much.
scursion07 yea, but how many of those sockets can you use on your buggies? I figured, you get the MIP hexes(those will be used the most), some nut drivers(these don't need to be expensive because a nut driver doesn't go into the head of a screw)and a couple of screw drivers. I always drool over the nice big tool sets from Snap-On or Craftsman, but most of it won't fit anything on a 1/10 RC. Unless you have a 5th scale or something lol
Chester Copperpot I didn't mean it like, "buy a Snap-on socket set instead". I was, more or less, calling out Hudy for charging more for an RC tool set than Snap-on does for full sized tools.
No its cool, I know what you meant. The thing with in-house makers, they don't outsource anything so their prices tend to reflect their work. Mr. Hudy takes pride in his work and it shows. I don't think we will see cheaper prices from him on stuff like tools, his setup stations etc. He has to keep the kits low however to be able to keep competitive. Tools though, he can charge more because he knows its a game of..well, people can either buy MIP, Dynamite or....I can make a limited set and maybe people will buy mine. I'll charge a high price because I don't make tools that much so...if they buy them, I'll make a nice profit and if they don't, since they are limited, I won't lose too much money because they won't be in production very long. Companies like Craftsman and Snap-On, they depend on selling tools more than Hudy ever will. Now, if Mr. Hudy charged like $500 for an XB2, he wouldn't sell that many kits
Hudy do offer the plastic handle profitool line if I am not mistaken. Same tips, cheaper handles. Tey used to be a bargain when there were no better tips available, but today I'd go for Arrowmax's or RDRP's titanium nitride coated stuff.
You already had great tools, so I can understand your having some remorse. But for someone with a cheap set or no tools at all I can see this being a nice treat. Still a bit of a splurge, but one you wouldn't regret. As always, love your videos (on both channels).
I bought the same set and just like you I have buyers remorse. I actually prefer the MIP handles. I found that after a lot of wrenching, the Hudy handles had left my hands a little sore
Oh... so that’s how they were able to afford the Hudy Arena. Without a doubt, Hudy makes some of the nicest tools and equipment around, but holy cow. That set is almost the price of a whole vehicle kit.
@@maxd6178 I ended up getting Serpent tools (since I chose Serpent on-road cars when I got back into the hobby last year), which are basically branded ArrowMax tools. Ended up costing about $100 less than this. But I also have the MIP 1/4" driver bits for convenience for when I don't want to wrench by hand.
I put my set together over time, I just love them. They work awesome I have never had issues with stripping screws or the tips rounding off. I did not get the limited version. To me the difference is comparable to snap-on and craftsmen the both work awesome but I just like the fit and feel of snap-on or hudy in this case. Just my two cents.
Have had hudy tools in both metric and imperial for about 5 years and have built about 5 kits with them, still like new. My MIP tools after only about 2 years are showing some serious wear on the tips, one even broke
What brings me to this video that’s over 2 yrs old??? Well, I’ve been thinking about grabbing this Arrowmax black/gold honeycomb tool set from amain hobbies but.... it’s $375.99 for 23 PIECES!! I’ve just been using a cheap $25 Dynamite brand tool kit where you constantly change out the head for whatever you need. I’d love to grab this Arrowmax set and I’ve asked myself will it come in handy, yes. Do I like the design? Love it!! And I’ve had a chance to go hands on with them from a guy at the track and the feel/quality is top notch but $375.......I guess I’ll keep looking at other tool vids until it feels right to say yes or hell no!! lol
In my country if you bring this to the track it will be gone having it on the table..I just use EDS ..hex tips are cheap, sharp and good and its spring steel..
Agree 100%, not worth the money. But I would caution against any hex drivers without hardened tips. My Dynamite hex drivers don't say they are but have lasted at least 15 years of racing and doing repair work at a hobby shop. This would be a great subject for your review. You do a great service and your productions keep getting better. Thanks
I think it is not always about money in life. Sometimes you just want it and there is no obvious reason. Why do people by a Rolex, a Casio for 20$ is more acurate. And that is the same with tools. Lets be honest to ourselves, RC is an expensive hobby but for me it is worth it. Everyone has to decide for himself whether it is worth it or not.
Hey bud I have been watching your channel for awhile now and really like how you explain everything you make it easy to understand so it's making me wonder if you would make a video on the tekin gen rx8 gen 3 and what Hotwire 3.0 is and how too program it with a smart phone I just ordered the new rx8 n can't find any real answers
Look, the hudy tools are nice, they are no doubt the best quality hex drivers with interchangable, but the Mip tools are still superior, you dont need to change the tips on them, and having the tip permenantly attached means they have less chance of coming loose while in use, if you have the hudy ones the set screw always comes loose, you have to loctite it in with blue loctite, and ive had the set screw strip, i only buy hudy tools for the stuff they make that mip doesnt, eg exhaust spring puller, shock tool, body reamer, etc, to summarise, Mip i still believe are the kings of rc hex and nut drivers, with hudy coming in second
I used to have a set of drivers that had the driver built into the handle, and another benefit was that if/when the driver started to wear, i could dremel off the worn end and have a practically new tip; cost: $0.00
Just wondering if you spend $220 dollars on the Arrowmax 25 piece purple tools will you feel the regret as much? It has very similar handle and same spring steel tip material.
Nice, but made where? I get paying a bit more for MIP being USA. Quality and western made is the only way I justify big purchases when the option is available.
Hudy uses third world Slovakia labor force. I can only imagine the Q/A rejection rate, Make 10 million parts to get 1 O.K. part that is probably why the price is so high.
A Nugent Hudy also makes the Xray kits in the same country. And their quality control is fine. If their labor is junk, why are their cars so good? Hudy is one of the few brands that aren't made in China, that's why brands like Kyosho and Xray are pricey. And have better materials than most others. Also why their prices are higher than most.
A Nugent I bet you never had a xray? Im at my 3rd xray now and I must say, from all the brands I owned, drive pins and cups of xray wears out the fastest. Those hudy spring steel are just for show man.
I know you mentioned steal quality before do you know how good the associated FT parts are like. For example Part # 1656 handle and bits 1662 and 1661 watched another video on them I like the handle and the way the bits click in magnetically. Cheers
Harmik Khoronian I had a bunch of the multi colored handle ones from AE. Some hex drivers and ball end drivers, they were all junk. They stripped or rounded off after a handful of uses
When they finally wear out and they will. Get the best and last set of tools you will ever need MIP's. Trust me had the dynamite set and had no idea what quality wrenches where like till I got the MIP set. They are worth every penny, and is only one I will ever buy. If I would happen to have lost one I would still buy MIP as they just don't break or wear out!
I used to strip screw all the time. Since I got MIP wrenches, no stripped screw heads. Not having to replace the screws alone pays for the tools. The real seller for me was replacing Losi SCTE diff screws .050" real small, just could not get them tight without stripping no matter what. Got MIPs and I have refilled the same diff 3 times now and screws are like new.
if u bought something like that from snap-on u would of gotten a jacket or something better then a cd case.. do these tools come with a life time warranty?
That's the trouble with top line tools, hard to justify ,especially when medium quality stuff will last a life time and often is guaranteed for life. Its the thought of losing or having stolen the Snap-on type stuff, horrifically expensive gear.
Jason, kind of curious about those interchangeable tips. Ive noticed on some of the other sets I have had of the same style ( associateds tools, Dynamite, Integy ) those set screws end up coming loose from use. I would love to hear if you have that same experience from these. I ended up rebuying all my tools with MIP since they were one piece construction.
I own the Yokomo tools on 2nd. year with the same style of interchangeable tips, only held in place by a screw, and I have never had that problem. Perhaps locktite would help?
I used cheapo china tools before.... And then I switched to Hudy.... You dont NEED the limited edition kit, you can get the same kit for less than 200USD, only difference are the holes in the handles... Hudy all the way!!!

You are clearly missing the point. At the price Hudy chagres the should need nothing. As you stated to make them truly worth your while you need to add some quality tips. Agreed I think it is out of 90% of the RC enthusiasts price range. I prefer to buy America first anyways. It is MIP all the way for me!
Thank you for this video. 🙏 I needed this
HEY SOMETIMES POSSESSION IS EVERYTHING!!!! We buy things sometimes not because we need it WE JUST WANT IT, I say to each his own😆😆😆
"she let me order it" lol, I totally get that.
300 is 300 that is a big chunk out in one shot for some tools that you still have to add the other ball end sizes.

MIP all the way for hex wrenches, then hudy nut wrenches, glow plug wrench
mip dont make nut wrenches
they do nut drivers now at least
oh ok, thanks for informing me (:

Honest review right there..

Hi Jason, I was wondering if you are going to review the Kyosho Lazer 6.6?
Great video Jason. I will stick with my dynamite tools. I really like them.
When they finally wear out and they will. Get the best and last set of tools you will ever need MIP's. Sweet, thanks for the info. As my dynamite go out I will try out the MIP. I definitely will not be doing $279.99 Hudy.

Not made in a cheap labor country, made in Europe. This is “limited edition”, they have cheaper variants.
Imho, people buy Hudy for the name. If you want durability, nothing beats MIP 👍
For that price they should have a life time warranty!
your channel is the best

yeah, stripping the head on that set screw was way to easy for me.
Tex Judd Get the MIP ones, no set screw to worry about
I did, a few weeks back. great tools
I want to know how long they last
I used cheapo china tools before.... And then I switched to Hudy.... You dont NEED the limited edition kit, you can get the same kit for less than 200USD, only difference are the holes in the handles... Hudy all the way!!!
How do pro drivers (Cavalieri, Tessmann, etc.) know about an upcoming big race? Is there a website or something?
RCSignup
+kja12b thank you, I'll look into that.
I have a set of the Serpent tools, cost a few bucks for the ones I got. Worth it? Let correct something though, the Serpent nut drivers, the 4.5, 5.5 and 7.0 are perfect..no complaints. I was more or less talking about the hex ones
Great tools are always going to be a good investment. Saves time and $$ repairing stripped screws an saves frustrations / headaches. Completely agree.. Cost is way to high. But pimp-iz-pimp ;)
Why do you need light tools are they faster !
Jason there is always a price to be paid for quality tools and then there the limited edition tools or better said trophy tools .. I have so many trophy tools and knives that will never be used..
Holy shit!
Honestly I have all the metric and SAE MiP tools bot hex drivers and but drivers, and I’m over 300 in and I want those tools next.
the tips are interchangeable because they wear out. quickly. buy some plain looking mip's. you'll be much happier.
Could not agree more
MIP all the way. Far superior.
yolo. nice purchase.
I am satisfied with my protek wrenches
Amain stands behind them too. I broke my 1.5 tip first day (building b44.3) they sent me new one no no problem
Jamin Adams that's probably why....B44.3 takes SAE...
Yea wasn't going to buy new wrenches to build a car
Jamin Adams if it broke the first day, how is that any good?
Happy Birthday!
hudy is now the maxamps of tools haha.
its only $$$ but i just replace my tips on my eds racing tools every winter its cheaper then knew tools but hudy is really sweet an nice but its the price
I paid $150 for a Serpent Racing, Winter Jacket. Worth it? Hell yes!!! Warmest coat I've ever worn. Those Europeans know how to make a warm jacket 😅
so it doesnt even have an 8mm driver?? what the actual fuck? no chance in hell.
The blue duratrax tools are ok.
Way better than any set from your Home Depot.
believe it or not that cheap under $10 rigid driver/bit set from home depot holds up really well, gave one to my local hobbytown (owner to cheap to store use decent tools and got tired of repeatedly replacing garbage duratrax) couple years ago and they still haven't messed them up...
got to show off somehow
love that shirt 😊
Sometimes you just have to treat yourself with quality and/or brand name :)
I can buy snap on tools for that price!
maid in china for $7..;)
matad Hudy is not made in China lol. All his stuff is home made. That's why it costs so much, its made with his supervision and him overseeing everything. I'm not trying to justify the cost, but trust me..Mr.Hudy is not sending his stuff to Asia
Chester Copperpot
its alot of money but everyone spend their money like they want..:)
im just pay $250 for a handmade lure that goes to my shelf.
peace !
I don't know if they are made in China today, but when I bought my Hudy profitools ten years ago, i.e. the version with the cheaper plastic handles, they were made in Slovakia. Think he's being paid or provided tools in order to promote them?
Rick Slick lmao. I'm pretty sure I showed the actual receipt from AMain. :)
promote them? if you put your listening ears on your will hear him say he wouldn't buy them again. On top of that he showed the Amain receipt... 3:23
It is not expensive, what happens is that I earn little money =(
nah
You can buy SNAP ON for cheaper. This is sad.
I agree also. Way to much money.
SnapOn likes this video.
hudy tips wear out too quickly and break easily!
Ya that is way overpriced in my book no matter how good the quality is and for that kind of price they should be personally engraved.
Not worth it
