      Yep same here. I can't stand SUV's in any way. But because Nick decided to help folks that actually have an interest in an off road vehicle that will never be used for its intended purpose I'm interested in his perspective and humor. Plus I have to check up and make sure that Tui, William, and Albert are getting their screen time.

Also helpful to decide what we really need and what we definitely can do without. Especially in these Covid days when going to the dealership is not so easy. Thanks!!!!

    i really don't know what to say. Thank you very much Nick for taking the time to help anyone having difficulty specing his first porsche. great info, and could save me a lot of money. problem is you fear if you don't have some of those options your car will be missing a lot and since its your first porsche and will be spending a lot of money you don't want to mess it up. i sat with my friend a couple of days ago and been playing with the config. i told him any porsche will cost 150% of the sticker price which make it very expensive. but and after your video, i think i can have much much less options adding only what i really need...like bose, good color and good rims and buy the car at an acceptable price. Thanks to you.

  • @cbatiau2528
    @cbatiau2528 5 лет назад +2

    Thanks, Nick, for this very useful review. It's of great use to anybody considering buying a Porsche -- whether Cayenne or not -- because so many of these options stretch from model to model. Regarding the audio system: I had a Panamera with the Bose system, and I special-ordered a new 2018 Panamera with just the base music system. I'm a musician and music fanatic, and quite honestly, the base system is extremely good. This is a car, and as you say, you get out on the road and there's road noise and other noise as you drive around; this is not your home stereo at home. I say "save your money" on this option, as the base system is extremely good; no need even for Bose. The other thing that you push that I don't like is the automatically dimming mirrors: I'm very happy that Porsche makes this an optional add-on feature, because I dislike it very much; I feel that it makes things too dark in the daytime in your rearview mirrors. If dimming mirrors could be manually controlled by the driver (on/off; amount of dimming), I'd be in favor or them, but letting the car decide when they are dimmed is unsatisfactory to me. I also like that Porsche lets you choose if you want a panoramic roof or not; personally, I don't need one and think that they are less safe and more prone to problems, so let me save my money by not making that standard (thank you, Porsche!).
    I agree with your comments on most of these options -- most of them are not necessary. I would not do without the adaptive cruise control after having experienced in rental cars and now in my own car; absurdly expensive, yes, but too important from a safety standpoint, I think. And, I feel that the blind-spot assist lights on the outdoor mirrors are important to have; shame on Porsche again for making this an expensive add-on, but I guess that they are trying to keep the base price down. I also have the night-vision infrared camera, and I find it immensely useful for the night driving I do in urban areas with lots of pedestrians and bicyclists, in which I can see them pop out in bright yellow long before I can see them down the street with my headlights (or with the help of streetlights).
    Finally, I like that Porsche makes so many things optional (and wish it would make more things optional, like controlling when your headlights are on or not, which you can no longer do) -- their problem is making the options so dang expensive. But I wish that all car dealers would let you pick and choose so many options: have cheap standard base cars and then charge extra amounts for tons of add-ons at a rate that makes it worthwhile for the manufacturer. I do hope that the new Cayennes and Macans will continue to allow the driver to permanently disable the auto-start/stop-engine function and also the auto-door-locking-when-starting-to-move function (both features that are very annoying to many drivers in other brands, but which Porsche has allowed the driver to control in the recent past).

    Thanks Nick for such a thorough review of the Cayenne! I recently purchased a "new" 2020 classic model. This has helped me greatly to understand the car and the options I have (quite a few). There are only a couple I would opt for that I don't have, one being the night vision. We looked at the Coupe (smaller, more expensive) and the Macan (too small but very sporty). First time Porsche owner and we are very much pleased with this car for the ride, handling, and luxury features. Just a well built automobile.

    I've come across this video 4 years after the fact. It seems Nick only wants the Cayenne to be a basic luxury SUV. What's funny is a lot of the stuff he's saying "nobody will do with" or "you don't need on" a Cayenne is exactly stuff that we did/do with ours. We had a 2017 Cayenne Turbo S, and I ALWAYS drove it around with the suspension in Sport+ mode. We also drove it on track! The PDCC works wonders on the Cayenne, and I wouldn't want one without it! We now have a 2023 Cayenne Turbo, and it, too, has Sport Chrono (and Offroad Package), Sports Exhaust, etc. It has the tungsten coated brake rotors, unfortunately, instead of the carbon composite rotors like our Turbo S had. (The PSCB are NOT good!) Like the last one, I ALWAYS drive it with the suspension in Sport+ mode. I intend to drive this one on track, too. (I have track-able sports cars, but my wife gets terrified when I put them through their paces with her in the passenger seat. She feels "safer" in the SUVs.) Just because you're driving an SUV doesn't mean you have to drive a boring one! That's why the Cayenne exists; for people like me who like to experience the drive, not just sit there hanging onto the steering wheel. For how Nick would configure/drive a Cayenne, he'd be better served buying a much "lesser" SUV. A Ford Explorer would suit his SUV needs just fine. haha The money saved could go toward his sports car track days budget.

    "It's the trunk, *no* *one's* gonna be in the trunk, you don't need to have fancy stitching on the trunk"
    Yeah sure Nick, we all know what you keep in your trunk...

    I honestly cannot believe i just watched this entire video! :/
    I can barely sit through a 15 minute “interesting” vid...
    I’m not even considering buying a Porsche, for obvious reasons... but this was VERY fun!!

    Thanks Nick very helpful in choosing my new car but some of us who don’t live in the city do need some off road capability. This is not a Defender but its clearance and 4x4 features make it a great luxury car for the countryside

    I'm a product specialist and the one thing Porsche got totally wrong on the new Cayenne is that you can see the options you don't have on the soft touch panel. You can only really see them in the daylight. But the cooled seats, pdc, and e drive buttons are just greyed out and are still visable. On a 80k car blank buttons are a no no

    Nick,, thank you very much for the informative information. I just bought a customized Cayenne S and I’ve changed my mind about many things you were right about (not everything though). Thank you 🙏

    Thanx Nick, great video breakdown on Porsce's options and packages. Need this info prior to entering the terror dome aka the Porsche dealership.
    The only subject I'd like to see is a discussion on tires as related to wheel choices.
