S550 Mustang Window Issue - Possible Fix For Window Not Closing All The Way

  • 2015+ S550 Mustang power window wasn’t going all the way up in the closed position. Door would be closed, but window would still be maybe 1/4 inch or so down and leak water during rain. Tried re-indexing the window, didn’t work. Was going to replace the window motor and regulator but out of the blue, the window started going up and down all on its own between the slightly down ‘door open’ and fully up ‘door closed’ positions. Found a white wire in the power window connector was loose on the male side. I could move the wire and thus the pin for that connector in and out. I figured maybe it wasn’t allowing for a consistent connection? Cut the wire loom back a bit and pushed the white wire into the connector more and plugged it back in. Opened and closed the door a few more times and now it works good. Easy free potential fix.

Definitely works!! I also went a step further and wrapped electrical tape around it so the wire won’t move and unplug itself

This is ridiculous Ford does not offer a recall on this. Spoke to a tech at the dealership who said this is a very common issue on S550 Mustangs but most likely won't be recalled by Ford as most people out of warranty look for third party to do the fix as dealerships charge $500+ to replace the motor (most likely a wrong fix). I personally don't think the motor is the issue in this case, but most likely either lose contacts as in this case or water damage/oxidation of contacts.

I had the same problem on my 2018 convertable but on the driver side. I found that one of the 2 larger wires in the connector was not making good contact with the male connector on the motor. It would stop working and I would just tap on the connector and it would work for a moment. I tried cleaning out with contact cleaner and dielectric grease but that wasnt a permanent fix. I will reach out to my Ford dealer to see if they have a replacement pigtail for this. In the mean time I took a small piece of copper wire and placed into the female side and slid the connector back on the motor to force a better connection between the two connectors and so far this seems to have worked. I can only hope Ford makes a pigtail for this.

Gonna try this, if I can’t fix it I’ll just take it back to the dealer since It hasn’t even been a month since I bought the car

Thank you so much🙏🙏, fixed my window after i randomly stopped working, though mine didnt have any loose wires but i wouldnt have even known where to start if not for this video. Mine had a bunch of dielectric grease in it so i cleaned it really good with MAF cleaner and then blew it out with compressed air and let it sit in the sun for a few mins, put everything back together and it works! Fingers crossed🤞it stays working for a while at least.😆🙏

My 2017 V6 Coupe's window started acting up after I swapped out the factory speaker (had a crackling voice coil). I tried doing the reset with the switch and didn't really do anything. So I unplugged the fuse for the motor and waited a couple minutes before putting it back in. Kinda helped. I'm just avoiding going to the dealership and biting whatever dumb 'repair' fee they'll hit me with. I'll try checkout the motor harness if nothing else works.
