- Tissue Paper Watercolouring & Techniques
Tissue paper can be used with most colour mediums that can be diluted by water. It creates beautiful watercoloured backgrounds WITHOUT having to use watercolour paper. A fun and inexpensive alternative to using watercolour paper or mixed media paper.
Glue to white card stock or acetate for sturdiness. May also be die-cut for embellishments for cards.
Colours can be intensified on tissue paper by adding one, two, etc. layers of colour medium, making sure to dry between each addition (layer) of colour

Thanks to Karen Hasheck (Karen’s Kreative Kards) for allowing me to share her Metallic Tissue Paper Technique.
So funny that I have used that gold embossing technique YEARS ago but with crumpled hand made paper rather then the tissue. I am going to have to bring it back again. Looks so FUN!!
Gorgeous samples made with your tissue paper techniques. TFS all the steps for each technique, Loll. I so appreciate you sharing all your tissue backgrounds using different watercolor medium and your finished cards. Hugs
Thanks so much Nancy!!
This is a fabulous video! Thanks so much.
Totally amazing - still after 6 years. Can't wait to try this in 2023.
Loved your video and learnt so much. You have such a gentle way of explaining. Can't wait to try out these ideas.
These are beautiful, defiantly going to buy some white tissue paper!

Great video, lots of fabulous ideas, thank you💕
Loll, I so enjoyed seeing your cards on SCS using this technique, so I decided to drop in this evening and have a look see. Fascinating and lovely technique.
Hi Susie. Thanks for watching the video and glad you enjoyed it. Hope you are keeping well. Loll :)
Hello Susie. How are you?
Wow, Loll! I LOVED the video with all the beautiful samples, and you really did take the "fear" out of this technique for me! LOL! I am not a very technique person, but I love the steps and the results. What beautiful cards! Thanks so much! Hugs!
Great video with well explained techniques with tissue paper. I love how you changed up the Metallic Tissue technique to use inexpensive glue to attach the wrinkled colored tissue paper. Just as effective and much less expensive than the two sided sheets of adhesive paper I used. And just to be clear, I did name the technique for my blog and written articles on the technique, but it was not my original idea. As with most ideas and techniques, it spread and evolved on Pinterest and blogs and I do not know the originator of the technique. Thanks for the credit though- I appreciate it!
Thanks Karen. I did mention that I saw this technique first on your blog. As you said, these techniques make the rounds, evolving as they go. I appreciate the inspiration from you. xx
Thank you, Loll!!! I'm over the moon in love with these examples you've shared. Thank you so much for the tutorial!!!
Great tutorial, Loll. Thanks very much for sharing these techniques! I’m anxious to try them out. 😊

Omg..I love this technique. The cards turned out beautifully.
Your technique is so amazing, Loll! Thanks for sharing this video!

I have just tried this today Loll and love the results. I'm patiently waiting for the card to dry so that I can do the metallic embossing. I love experimenting with new techniques and ideas and have loved all the projects you are so kind to share with everyone. Next on my list is to get some Yupo paper and play with some alcohol inks! Thank you so much. Stef x
Thanks Stef!! Glad you gave it a try. It's so fun! Loll :)

Another fabulous video, Loll! Such a fun technique - I especially like when you embossed silver on the "wrinkles"! Will definitely be trying this.
I have to warn you Maura ... this is very addictive. I'm obsessed with playing with tissue paper now. :) Have fun with the technique!
Oh Loll, I'm just in awe at the beauty of this technique, who knew you can do such gorgeous projects with the humble tissue paper!!! I love the one you made when you applied the Versamark over the crinkled paper and then heat embossed in gold, what a gorgeous result.
I must try this technique, thank you so much for this video, it's just the perfect tool to learn how to do this.
Big hugs,
Maria Rodriguez.
Hello Loll...love the beautiful technique you demonstrated...love your very clear instructions on how too...love the serene music in the background...glad I found you...cheers from Australia :)
Thanks so much Barbara!

Absolutely fabulous, Loll. I've got to give it a try. Great video.

Loved your tutorial Loll. Great techniques there. Thanks for sharing.
What a great tutorial! Thanks so much for all the great inspiration!!
Awesome techniques, thank you so much! I really enjoyed your wonderful video - I came over from Darnell. I am off to find some tissue paper in my stash! xxx
Good day. How are you?
This is absolutely great and very inspiring! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful. TFS
What a great technique! You always do a great job of explaining the various techniques and way to do things. I appreciate that.
One question. I noticed you picked up your inked tissue paper carefully and laid it with ink side down onto your paper towel. Is that how you did all the pieces? Is there a reason why you do it that way?...Whoops, guess that was 2 questions :-) LOVE your techniques and have already tried your technique using SU ink. Worked great! Can't wait to make into a card. I want to try other inks and your heat embossing technique. Hugs...
Hello Nancy
Great tutorial very clear
I have to say it again...
"WOW"... I love your techniques...
How Beautiful...

I DO!!!
@@JudiChristopher Hello Judi. How are you?
Wow, these are BEAUTIFUL!! Just what I needed, a new technique to learn!!! But I am going to try this. I have been stamping tissue paper, copying tissue paper on my computer too. This is such wonderful way to try. Thanks for VIdeo. Of to subscribe and LIKE!!!
Love these techniques! I have all the supplies and am definitely inspired to try them. I especially love the gold embossing powder on the wrinkly bits. Beautiful!
Outstanding video! Love the techniques and I find your voice to be very easy to listen to as well.... Thank you!
Thanks Marilyn!
Great tutorial. You can also sprinkle glitter between the acetate and the tissue paper, so you end up with a sparkly effect when using it acetate side up. ☺
Hello 👋
Thanks so much for sharing these fabulous techniques with us! Your cards are GORGEOUS, Loll!!! I can't wait to try this with Brushos :)
WOW Loll!!! Such a relatively simple technique with such stunning results!! So glad I happened to see your link on Karen D's blog post. This is definitely something I will be doing and something that would be fun to do with my grandchildren. The hardest part will be waiting for the paper to dry!! Your explanations are very clear and concise and I can't wait to see more from you. Have a wonderful weekend!!
#kindnessmatters
Thank you - lots of wonderful techniques (I found you through Barb, so thank you Barb too)!
awesome tutorial!
This is an amazing video; appreciate all the tips. Background music is distracting, I'd rather listen to your pretty voice. Thanks for your knowledge and talent! =)
These are lovely. Can I use tissue paper designed for wrapping inside gifts?
Yes, any tissue will work. Some tissue is thinner than others, which means it might be a little more difficult to pick it up when it's wet, but otherwise should work the same. Loll :)
What a wealth of information and ideas! You must be a teacher, you give such precise and clear directions ! Thanks, love your videos! What is the leaf die you show?
Hi Debrah. Thanks for your lovely comments. The leaf die I used is from Penny Black and it's called Lively. Loll :)
I love this video Loll. Thank you for sharing. I HAVE to try this! Is the acetate you use good for cutting stencils as well?
Yes, I originally bought the acetate for cutting stencils with my silhouette cameo. Now I'm incorporating the acetate into some of my cards. :) I know you'll have fun trying this Angela! Loll :)
Loll Thompson thank you Loll. I need to get some acetate for stenciling so I'll get the one you suggest and I can use it for this technique also. Your videos are always so good to view and you explain things do well. I look forward to them.

Loved the video and the techniques!!! They turned out beautiful! Reading through all the comments, LOTS of good questions!!! Are there going to be more video' on this technique concerning some of these questions???? I would love to see more!!!
Not planning on doing another video on this Donna. But I have answered the questions below and hope that helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Loll :)
Thank you Loll! I will do some reading and anxiously await your next video! You are a wonderful teacher, and I love WATCHING how the things are done as I am a visual learner!!! Hugs
Thanks Donna!
Great video! When you put the tissue on the paper towel, is that to let it dry? If you want to add a second layer you lift it from the paper towel and then place it there again to dry? Also, for the gold metallic, can you flick gold FINETEC watercolor paint on the tissue? Thank you
Yes, the tissue paper is there to speed up the drying of the tissue paper. It can take about 15-20 minutes and sometimes longer depending on how much water you use. You can use your heat tool to speed up the drying time. Definitely you could flick or splatter with FINETEC watercolour paint, along with lots of other acrylic paints, and other products as I mention in the video.
great video
Hello 👋
Thanks to Barb Ghig, I'm here, and blown away by this technique in all it's variations! Loll!!! LOve the scrunched/gold embossed number! WOW it is exquisite! Quick question... is the acetate you buy heavy enough to become a card-base? and how do you keep it from being static-y? Appreciate the help, and your shared talents! xx=]
Thanks so much Michele!! I hope you'll give these techniques a try. Yes, the acetate I use is strong enough to be a card base. Acetate is static-y, but these sheets do come with tissue paper in-between, so it helps a bit. I don't know what else you can do to eliminate the static.
Here's a link to the ones I buy from Amazon.com. They are a package of 12"x12" (25 sheets) for just over $10 US ... great price! Link: www.amazon.com/Grafix-Clear-Plastic-Thickness-12-Inch/dp/B001K7Q6Z0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500054678&sr=8-1&keywords=grafix+.007
awesome Loll!
Did you stamp with versamark on the acetate , sprinkle the gold embossing powder and heat? I did not know that versamark worked on acetate?
Yes, I stamped in Versamark on acetate, sprinkled with embossing powder, and heat set. The acetate must be heat proof, or a thicker acetate that will take some heat. It doesn't work with all acetate ... some will melt.
Thank you, I will look for some craft acetate.
Hi Deborah. I have a link to the acetate that I use in the description below the RUclips video, if you are interested. Just click on "Show More" below the video.
What is the gray board you did the work on? Nice video.
Hi Melinda. The gray mat is a cutting mat that I bought from Blick Art Materials. It's very large and great to work on. Unfortunately, I spilled alcohol inks on it and it stained, so I haven't been using it since. Most other things wipe off. Loll :)
@@lollthompson7357 Thank you!
How did you apply the gold inks? Thank you
I added gold ink to my work surface and diluted with water. Then I just pressed the tissue paper into the wet ink. You could also splatter on top. Or you could add gold as one of the inks when you are first watercolouring your tissue paper.
Very good ideas in adding the gold, thank you.
I just discovered you on RUclips today. I love your videos. Why don’t you make videos anymore? You are very talented and a great teacher. I hope you will return to make more videos
Thanks so much D. I make videos as time permits. Hope to be back with a new one soon.
Love the technique - thank you so much for the instructions. (Would love for the music to stop while you’re talking.)
And thank you for sharing...sorry I forgot to say that.
Okay, now I'm in trouble, Loll. I want to try this so badly and I have too many other things I should be doing. Hmm, play with tissue paper or get my work done? ;)
:) Well, you know what I would do ... the work will always be there later. :)
awesome video mf...keep em coming!! love seeing your processes and your beautiful work!
thanks,

Thanks Karen. I had a lot of fun playing with tissue paper!! xx
oooh how cool Loll :)
The music is not necessary..very distracting. Your voice is wonderful all by itself.
