You guys are so right regarding boat presence impacting fish in the area. Also, noise within a boat, like steeping heavily or jumping down from a front or rear platform. I was out with a buddy fishing in a similar creek a month or so back and threatened to throw him over if he kept stomping around (he was smacking and dodging mosquitoes / biting flies! Haha)
Man.. this was a great video! What an awesome day for you out there. It looked like an amazing day, calm, no boat traffic and nice trout on the hook. I would be lying if I said I were not jealous! Have not been able to get out there for a few weeks now and I’ve got the shakes! As always… thanks for posting high quality videos that include great info and insight. Look forward to the next.
Awesome! Gas prices and responsibilities have put a damper on my trips to the coast and it's killing me. Keep them coming atleast then I can see fish. Haha
Hay salty I look forward to your videos, always good to try new things. I have been checking out some new places to go with my yak, I'm not as stable in one as you are. Tight lines and look forward to the next one.
Grreat to see another video from you! As always, creative camera angles. Those trout are such beautiful fish--especially nice ones like you were catching. A little surprise multi-species action, eh? With live bait, you never know what will bite! Great action and tips on the slip bobber rig. I've used those a lot when fishing for catfish under a float so I can easily adjust the depth--especially if I need to fish deeper than my rod is long! Keep 'em coming!
Love your videos. The way ur channel is set up is always just short, sweet, to the point. Not a bunch of shout out/sell out type stuff going on yet still quality footage, catching, and tactics being listed. Would love to fish with u some day. I'm in Virginia Beach so not too far from you I don't think.
Yesir.... Every day is different. Small to big, artificial. All the way to to mud minnow and cut bait(to mullet and pinfish ) on popping cork believe it or not
Trout are all in the ER right now thou. I've been staying in Lynnhaven inlet. I feel like where ur fishing in this video and some previous videos have a lot of the same characteristics as the Elizabeth river(grew up on eastern branch)
You are correct. Salinity level is definitely low. Trout are able to tolerate very fresh brackish water in cooler temps. However, most of the salt content stays deep while the fresher water is nearer to the surface. Thus speckled trout like deep water in winter, won't freeze and is more salty.
I was checking out the slip float you were using… is that a stick / peg style stopper? Just curious as I may give it a try. I like using slip float in cold weather with live bait. Been using the Betts Lures Billy Bay slip bobbers (based out of Fuquay Carine NC)…they utilize the slip/line knot. Great to fish with but you have to toss the slip knot and use a new one, if you are switching off lures on the same pole. Also, plan on trying the circle hooks as you mentioned, in lieu of my goto treble hooks.
It is the peg style. I've used the Billy Bay too and they work good. I think the peg style have better visibility in low light. I've experimented with treble hooks and they hook fish good but live bait tends to come off due to the smallness of hook.
I like a creek in winter that has up to 6 or 7 ft depth minimum. Some of the creeks I fish are as deep as 15'. I believe when the temp drops below 45 degrees for consecutive days, large trout will not tolerated the 3-5 foot range. Small trout, 12-17" will still stick around in the shallower water but most of the big girls are looking for depth and consistent temps that won't freeze. The creek in this video, when the air warmed up the next week, all the trout moved right out. It's a temperature/timing thing. If you're cold and uncomfortable, they're probably there.
Some studs brother. Keep up the videos! Its been a while. Looks like you might waterfowl outta that yak. Cmonnow. We need to see some ducks falling from the sky.
@@haltysalty7537 Heck yea! Im a country boy from upstate NY. Moving down to Onslow Co. there next year sometime. Between growing fruit and veggies, I plan to be consuming alot of fish protiens. Ron, I'd prefer not to say. I mean no disrespect and while it seems like a harmless question to answer, I wouldn't want to be responsible, in any way, for blowing up a spot where others fish too. There are only so many creeks in each county, savy researchers use process of elimination to pinpoint spots rather than putting in the work to find their own. And you can't hardly blame them, we all work our jobs all week and just want to maximize our on the water time. The take away I should have mentioned in the video is that this trip was after a week of cold temps and it pushed fish back into creeks. It's a protective mechanism trout have. I'm sure most creeks were good around this particular window, as opposed to open water and shoreline.
@@haltysalty7537 No disrespect, but you dont mind giving spots and landmarks to my fishing spots. Further from you home. So whats the difference. You want to keep you home spots secret while exposing very much other's home spots. hmm
Ron, if I've ever exposed one of your spots, it was not my intention. The few times I've named my location were very public fishing areas that are known to most. I always try to help others and offer advice where I can, because many have helped me, it's what the channel is about. I wish you tight lines.
In the winter they will go deep into the interior. Also can depend on how far salinity pushes up river. At present time it is very far up rivers in NC due to lack of rain.
How come you don't keep any of these big trout filet them up fry them up bake them how come you don't keep them and eat them I don't like watching videos where you don't eat them all that time and energy and then when you take the gas boats you burn all that fuel and you'll catch and release what about a catch clean and cook I know you got some good recipes man
Hi Vincent, I actually do keep fish quite often. Trout and redfish are two of my favorites. I'll consider doing a catch and cook video, thanks for the suggestion.
Pretty work 👍👍👍 good video
Thanks buddy! Good to hear from you.
Another great video and spot on with the boat traffic and the way it pushes the fish! It will cut the bite off quick. Appreciate your insight!
Thank you

Fine episode, some really nice fish. Thanks for the "how to" info. Much Appreciated.

Thanks Gregg. Yeah not often to catch all three of those species in the back of a creek.
“Y’all this is a good fish.” Nice job. Nice fish.

What kind of salinity levels are in these creeks? Seems like your finding them in areas that almost look brackish

Are you using plain bass minnows halty and how to they do in that water
