Thanks Ferg! The Paul Brown definitely has a weird action and I’m still figuring out how to control it better. I only showed one of the trout I lost in the video because it was getting too long, but I lost 5 trout on the Fat Boy that day so I definitely still have some work to do.
Thanks Jon! Overall, I would say the jerk bait was better for me too. I think I just fished the fat boy a lot that day because I was trying to learn better how to work it. Every year I promise myself I’m gonna get more efficient with other lures but the XRap just jumps in my hand as soon as I get on the water 😂
Hey bud I really enjoy ur videos , I found ur channel by searching Jar Fishing and I’m glad I did ! I saw ur name on my buddy AJ’s channel “The Louisiana Fishing Produce Man” in the comment section and I’ve told a lot of friends to checkout ur channel! Tight Lines my friend and keep shooting us these videos, VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS!
Those vultures started moving in on ya when they saw you catching a few lol😂. I fish that same area. I actually don’t mind it that much. I don’t like it when people pull up on ya and don’t even say hello or anything.
I call that SIGHT-FISHING…people looking for boats who are catching and then mule their way in on top of you, ‘some’ do the olympic-anchor-toss, let out 10’ of chain OR put down troll-motor within casting distance, ask: “whacha you using” AND THEN ASK IF YOU CATCHING ANYTHING!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Jar, I hate to keep asking questions, but I respect your ability and your opinions! Tell me about your favorite saltwater bait casting reel. What speed reel do you favor. How long does a reel last if you take pretty good care of it? I know that saltwater is tuff on everything! I really enjoy your videos
No worries. I don’t mind at all. There are plenty of people out there that know way more than me about this stuff but I’ll tell you what works for me. I use mid level gear and just take care of it. The Curado K has been a fantastic reel for me. It’s not a “salt water reel” but keeping it clean and oiled has kept them going for years. I just give them a rinse with a spray bottle on mist mode to avoid hitting them with high pressure water. I dry them and then wipe the outside down with rem oil. I put a drop of reel oil on the worm gear and the main bearings after a heavy use. Once a year I completely break them down and clean and regrease them (plenty of good videos out there on this process). My Curados are 7.4 ratio and they are about 4 years old. Thanks for watching and all the good feedback
Thanks Brandon! If I hadn't lucked up and caught a fish with it on the third cast, I probably would have put it down and never touched it the rest of the day lol.
@@Jar_Fishing they’re excellent, especially the big full-sized version on a weedless swim bait hook. I use them here in Texas on the middle and lower coast, great darting action and long casting like the Fat Boy given their size and weight.
Hey there, Jar. I wanted to see if you would be interested in chatting about the Release Over 20 organization when you get a chance? It looks like you have been releasing the big girls for awhile now. Let me know if you would have time for that. Thanks!
I use a Falcon 6’7” Medium-light. Most of my rods are 7’ but the shorter rod keeps me from hitting the water with the rod tip as much when I’m working the lure. The lighter power helps them not throw the lure as easily and helps me cast the lighter lures without backlash. I jump up to the medium heavy with the Fat Boy because it’s so dang heavy.
Excellent action!
Thanks for watching! I Just realized this was you John. It was nice to meet you.
Great video again 😎😎
Great video bro!
Great tips and great fish! I struggle with those Paul browns.

@@Jar_Fishing I was told that bending the tail down causes any and all Paul Brown Lures to dive a little more and react more radically
@@JCASTELLUCCIOJR It's true
Great video.. Fished the rocks last week and pulled out some amazing trout..
Hammer day!! Seems like jerk baits were better for me this winter than the Fat Boys but each day might show different results. Thanks for sharing.

I knew I was in the right area when I realized it was you next to me. Good chatting with you. Caught 3 22's along that same stretch.
It was an awesome day! Great meeting you.
Awesome video , like that ya releasing them big girls I be been tagging quite a few 18-22 inches down towards Delacroix using suspending twitch baits
Excellent and very helpful retrieve guidance
Thanks John! I try include info that helps people so it’s not just another fish catching video.
@@Jar_Fishing that is so appreciated from my point of view and passion for our sport

Great video
Thanks Paul!
It is fun to try new lures, but is hard to beat the X RAP in the winter time, you ever used the Rapala Husky Jerk ? Great video, thanks for sharing .
I’ll have to check that out. Thanks Lud!
It's a Oldy ,but Goody , works great for me 🤠
@@ludwigpapp5749 I sure like Husky Jerks, good colors and I use them in 3 sizes for speckled trout

some quality trout right there. I wish I could get some fat boy love over here, just haven't thrown it enough I don't guess

Have you used the slick bait
Never heard of it until somebody asked me about it the other day. Pretty good?

Awesome video, what’s your favorite color of X Rap?
Another great video. May I suggest if you're planning to release the fish they don't be allowed to beat themselves up on the deck of the boat?
Thanks Sam!
@@Jar_Fishing no offense meant. Just an observation and suggestion. Keep up the great videos.
No worries. I do my best to handle these fish correctly, but I can do better and I'm always willing to learn.
