I considered starting a Blood Angels army back in 9e and bought the Blood Angels codex, but just when I was about to pull the trigger the Black Templars codex and army box were announced and I decided they were the Space Marines melee faction for me. I acknowledge that Blood Angels’ characters and unique units were a major part of their appeal, but the 10e Blood Angels product line has retired several of their distinctive models and now Blood Angels just dress up generic SM units, like Intercessors and the Brutalis dreadnought, using the Blood Angels upgrade sprue. That completely undermines the chapter’s appeal! It might make sense from a BUSINESS perspective for GW to discontinue some of the older kits, but I suspect it will hurt Blood Angels in the long run. I certainly hope that GW does NOT discontinue my Black Templars’ Primaris Crusaders and Sword Brethren kits when their 10e codex is released.
I lucked out with BT too thankfully they won’t change anything until spring next year I think it is as codex’s are already planned until then last time I heard.
The Blood Angel upgrade sprue is a life saver. Besides the obvious conversion for death company, you can apply fancy bits to troops to make them characters. I used the old upgrade sprue to turn a jump intercessor box into a jump captain and two just sanguinary priests (RIP) and I still have two spare bodies for whatever project.

As many people pointed out when the new Sanguinary Guard dropped, the winged Stormcast Eternal models from the Age of Sigmar 4th ed launch box work very well as proxies. Much more impressive wings. Cheaper, too, if obtained off the secondary market.
I started buying space marines for my kids to paint while I do mine. I've been picking up the value boxes, the (now old) dark angels and blood angels combat patrols, the spearhead box, and preordered the forthcoming new BA combat patrol and the BA box. This gives something like, astorath, lemartes, JPI captain, DC captain, 2x5 assault intercessors, 1x10 dc marines, 3x5 assault JPI, 1x10 DC JPI, 2x3 sang guard, brutalis, redemptor, inceptors at 1995 with rage fueled on one of the leaders. Lots of stuff to rotate through if need be. Really spearhead almost gets people to 2k with the two new boxes at current points, since the ATV and 3 outriders are 150, so are about 200 points shy of 2k. Go find a mephiston or dante and you're golden.
I feel like the new combat patrol x2 and trying to find someone to trade the second captain to for a chaplain or librarian could be a decent start. That old dark angels combat patrol chaplain is usually pretty easy to find

I did tell him I'd buy him the old bits if he really wanted them to kitbash it onto the new stuff, but the black rage has seemingly taken hold of his brain. He was pure red angels, waiting for the new death company/ sanguinary guard. Personally, I'm just gonna buy the combat patrol, magnetise the intercessor's backpacks for jump packs, paint them death company, and kitbash those sanguinary guard to not look awful. Luck 100
I'm surprised the Death Company detachment didn't get DC-wide "Fights on death". Seems like an easy way to give that one a very distinct and flavorful playstyle.
The problem is that fights on death is VERY strong, there is a reason stratagems are either 1cp for 4+ fight on death or 2cp if you want automatic fights on death. While it might be cool and actually make sense in lore, giving what is usually a 2cp stratagem for free AND army wide is just too strong TwT
@CassiopeiaJeffrey Well, idk if it's army wide if *only* Death Company units could do it (I'm not 100% learned on point costs and whatnot), but I think it's a valid enough reward for throwing your entire lot in with Death Company models, and otherwise really doesn't benefit anything NOT DC by just not giving them a rule. Also worth noting that they can adjust point costs and such to accommodate that issue, like they did with Hellblasters... Hell, make it on a 3+ only like them too, even. I just REALLY want to see them change up these detachment formulas, because buffing only wounded units is both feels-bad AND regurgitated from other Codexes.

I fully do not get the "Liberator Assault Group" name?!?! ... I really liked the simple "Sons of Sanguinius". The new name sounds like a detachment name more fitting of Raven Guard. But overall this is probably the best Blood Angels release for as long as I've been in the hobby (mid 6th ed.). Most gripes about the blandness of the Sanguinary Guard and Death Company can be alleviated with some extra or different bits, both from the older kits or 3d printed stuff out there.
Is the blood angel combat patrol with the vehicle any decent for them? Im new to warhammer and i love the blood angels but i also want to incorporate a vehicle or two into my first army

Id like to turn my leviathan box set marines into blood angels but don't want to spend lots on a few pieces from GW. Can you recommend good third party upgrade sellers - looking for blood drop iconography and chalices to add to them.
I love that people can start new BA. but everything is so gloom... Now i can understand the Deathwatch lads( which have much WORSE situation).... i can not have joy.
cheaper then Most other 40k.... yet almost all that makes these Ultra marines Blood Angels is the upgrade sprues. Everything is generic with the exception of Sang guard Baal pred and the Officers. No more chapter specific assault terminators, dreads, death company. I feel bad for space wolves players they have to be sweating right now.
Mephiston and Dante look soo good which makes me annoyed at how underwhelming some the new Blood Angels models look. Lemartes is alright but some of the old detail is gone, Astorath is great, Sagunior is pretty good I say, but the Saginuary and Death Company are real downgrades.
It seems at last that Dante and mephiston seem to reflect their lore and experience and power in game..but it won't last of course I agree that it is disappointing that lemartes is a poor sculpt as are rhe DC and SG but i wll just kitbash.
It'a simple. Grab some old boxes as soon as you can since they are removing all of them. If it's already too late luckily there is ebay so buy some actual BA minis, not this generic primaris joke with no soul and particularly no custom bits.
Basically altering your models in any way is kitbashing, from changing a head or arm, removing insignias, seals etc or adding parts from any other source be it other models or using green stuff/milliput. A good example for blood angels is taking the stormcast eternals (AoS) and removing the cloaks then adding a jump pack and wings to create sanguinary guards extremely cheap.

I hope for the amount of shilling you’ve done over this box GW sends you one as compensation. 1 character, 1 basic troop almost everyone has too much of and 1 elite troop broken in half to make it look like it’s not a complete ripoff. Add to that they’ve destroyed BA style just being an ultramarine painted red now and this box starts showing how shit it is, but the cherry on top is that with a quick kitbash you can change stormcast eternals into proper SG with the box being half price compared to a 5 box of SG and you get 10 models. Why would you ever pay for these knockoffs

Step 2: Bid on a bunch of the older, cooler miniatures.
