Imagine you're a chaos cultist about to get torn in half like a phone book by a space marine when a gust of wind blows out his backpack candles and you have a few more awkward seconds of life while he stops to relight them.
I like to imagine that it is an unspoken agreement among battle brother that if you have a flamer and you see someone's candles are out you spare a shot to light them up. *Brother Raphael approaches unknowingly with unlit candles Brother Michael: "BROTHER RAPHAEL, QUICKLY PRAISE THE EMPEROR!" *Raphael drops to one knee as a well timed gout of flame whooshes just over head. For the reliquary bones lore: Space marines carry some of the bones of their fallen brothers, especially bones from brothers than either completely fell or are now assigned to Dreadnaughts, as a badge of honour and rememberance.
Pretty funny that jay, who puts skulls from dead brothers on the power packs of his black templars, can’t think of why space marines would be carrying bones
