Mistah J, I'm begging of you: teach us how to paint Nick's FantaMarines! I've been praying you under every video of this series. Pretty plz and thank you!
I usually love your content, but I just feel hurt. You got so much of their lore flat out wrong... carcharodons are directly inspired by pacific islander culture, DEVOUT loyalists that revere the emperor as the void father, and butchered the mantis warriors on a level similar to what the minotaurs did to the lamenters. How would you feel is someone was telling everybody how black templars specialized in ranged warfare and stealth tactics?
I like how Jay can passionately explain why a certain strategy is very clever, not used by anyone else and will “throw your opponent of the rails” in one episode, just to tell in the next episode that he finished last during a tournament or that he lost another game against Shawn.
I am 100% the Carcharadons are loyalist also I'm pretty sure they just arrived and absolutely smacked the Mantis Warriors in the heads, took what they wanted and left. Just because they look pretty scary and Tyberos looks like an actual monster under his helmet, it doesn't mean they are heretics/renegades.
@@sztachuNo little mistake. The Carcharodons are in no way disloyal to the imperium. They are poorly supplied because they are a nomad fleet that operates at the edge of the galaxy. They were given permission by the other loyalist chapters to use the Mantis Warriors homeworld to resupply as a thank you for helping in the Badab war
@sztachu 100%, it's what makes 40k interesting is that it's not a 3 way humans vs xenos vs chaos. It's not loyalist/traitor/alien. Red tithe makes it very clear the nightlords aren't happy about loyalists using "their" tactics. Outer dark the renegade raven guard mentions a captured world eater could have been the carcharodons brother but for a twist of fate. Both of which contradict th Corax book I the primarchs series, which puts the spacesharks as exiled terran ravenguard for being too violent/ too chummy with horus pre heresy, an not even the space sharks remember beyond the forgotten one exiling them. Is the forgotten one corax? Or does it refer to one of the lost primarchs, making the carcharodons the last remnant of a redacted legion.the were definitely renegade/loyalist/traitors who at least one inquisitor wants words with
@GrgThCt they're not poorly supplied. They have logistics problems due to operating in intergalacticvoid. Each decade the get mechanicus resupply via the grey tithe. There's literally a forge that cladestinly meets with their battle barge flgship every decade on a planet called "the lost world". They do have a recruiting problem, though that's more to do with them playing missile defence against entire tyranid hive fleets.
I like this whole section of the video at 8:24 where you talk about the tabletop motivation for making these guys. I don't play tabletop, I'm in it for the lore and painting so it's cool to hear about a goofy strategy that made you want to put together a crew of shark bois.

Yeah, cus they give the AdMech all the weird stuff they dont want that they find patroling yhe outer galaxy, and the AdMech is just like "Shiiiiiiiiii man thanks take this stuff"
Yeah, they have a company dedicated to collecting “The Grey Tithe” (archeotech and other valuable stuff to the mechanicus) which they then trade with the AdMech for new weapons, vehicles, and armor. They also have one of the few known forge ships in their nomad fleet, which is how they are able to produce their own gear in a limited scope.
I would love to see the rest of the Badab war chapters starting with the Howling Griffons. The OG 40k conflict back when the Horus humbug was just some minor background fluff.
I had an idea for a 1000 point Carcharodon army this morning, which is to say, proxies for Custodes, with a Kyria Draxus proxy modeled and painted to look like Gawr Gura 'cause if you're gonna go for the meme you really ought to go all the way, (but also with the combat patrol that's 875 points, then obviously if you're taking Draxus you want her boys to have the Radiant Mantle, give the Aegis Projector to the Blade Champion attached to your Wardens, and add a Rhino? Exactly 1000!)

It’s implied the Dust Nomads (pre Corax Raven Guard who would go on to become the space sharks) were recruited from tribes in an area of Terra that was once Polynesia, that’s why the Carcharodons decorate their armour and tattoo those designs.
I like this. As a Polynesian myself, my head cannon is the 11th Primarch/Forgotten One landed on an ocean planet and raised by a Polynesian race, giving birth to the Carcharodons.
Hey thanks for the representation. Im on of the mods from the cacharadons discord we got about 400 people around which is pretty big for a random offshoot. Gotta say love the model we have a bunch of different people taking their own take on it after all
Here's a couple of odd space marine chapters. Gorgons they have green armor with red trimmed shoulder pads, an unknown founding the chapter symbol of a gorgon head. Or the Imperial Stars also an unknown founding. Purple armor with gold trim. Chapter symbol three stars in a triangle.
Minotaurs. Paint the legion of marry sue doomguy spartans. They're like a 12 year old tried to design the coolest, strongest chapter that could beat anyone, and I think there's something ironically charming about that. Rabid "Coolmaxing" leading to the chapter barely seeing love from GW, they just want people to think they're cool like the other edgy chapters.
yesssss Reiver hype! I used that exact setup for a Phobos themed escalation army and they had the highest kills in the campaign. nobody is used to dealing with that much out of phase mobility and 40 precision melee hits is crazy.
Blood Ravens - Unknown Founding - Mostly just a DoW ask. Crimson Fists - 2nd Founding - The first chapter to ever be seen, having been on the cover art of Rogue Trader. Make sure they have a crimson power fist. Deathwatch - Ordo Xenos - You can basically use whatever chapter you want with this one. And who knows, maybe you could find a way to enjoy painting them, similar to how you did with the Genestealers. Grey Knights - Ordo Malleus - Can you do this without any of the special parts? Or will you cave? Iron Snakes - 2nd Founding - Out of all art of space marines, one of my favourite will always be that one Marine with the respirator with a grill like that of a snarling beast, and the giant, thick, slab-like pauldrons. It's such an evocative image. Lamenters - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The checkered pattern on the pauldrons will give you a good challenge. Plus, we gotta love these boys. Mantis Warriors - Possible 8th Founding - The Mantis Warriors fought during the Badab War on the side of the Astral Claws, but eventually defected to the side of the Loyalists. However, because of their initial allegiance to the Astral Claws during the war, they've lost their homeworld which was given to the Charcharodons, and went on a penitent crusade. They are at incredibly low numbers by this point. Minotaurs - 21st (Cursed) Founding - The unofficial attack dogs of the High Lords of Terra. You can go as OP with the model as you want. Rainbow Warriors - Unknown Founding - In the official lore, there's next to no information about them (though they do have rainbow-coloured plasma weapons according to a Trazyn novel), but there is someone who decided to do their own version of the Rainbow Warriors as an Aztec-themed chapter. Good luck on the fine rainbow stripes. Storm Giants - Unknown Founding (possibly during the 36th Millennium, so between 15th through 21st foundings, maybe older) - These Salamanders successors are described as being even larger and stronger than the marines of other chapters. I wanna see how you can do with kitbashing the size of your marines. Storm Wardens - Unknown Founding - Mostly because I love the idea of Scottish Space Marines. You could also try branching into more Chaos Space Marines, and for that... Alpha Legion - M31 - They're great because you get to do a lot of scaled designs, and you even get a complementary Alpharius model in each kit. Black Legion - M31 - Consisting of not just the XVI Legion the Sons of Horus, but of any Chaos Marines who wish to fight their Long War under the command of Abaddon the Despoiler. One of the generic "Chaos Space Marine" factions, essentially the Ultramarines of Chaos. If any loyalist chapter were to see themselves as rivals of the Black Legion, it would have to be the Blood Angels, since Horus was the one who killed Sanguinius. Emperor's Children - M31 - They have by-far the most eclectic and over-the-top design elements of all the Chaos Marine legions. Me personally, I prefer their pre-heresy look, but their post-heresy look should at least be a lot of fun to make. The Iron Hands fucking hate the EC because Fulgrim (the Emperor's Children's Primarch) killed Ferrus Manus (the Iron Hands' Primarch). Iron Warriors - M31 - The use of lots of cybernetics, basic raw-iron armour, hazard stripes, and their no-nonsense design philosophy. They hate Chaos, actually, and they'll lop off anything that gets mutated and insist on only using machinery and technology, though they're more than happy to use a daemon as a battery. They also don't like working with any other legions. Rivals of the Imperial Fists due to some preexisting bad-blood between their respective primarchs. Night Lords - M31 - Forced to survive in a piratical fashion, the Night Lords have strong serial-killer vibes, especially since they're not really fighters so much as predators and killers (by space marine standards at least). The black-blue armour and the lightning bolts should add some visual interest. They are rivals of the Salamanders because even before the Heresy they were skinning civilians alive and wearing their faces. Red Corsairs - M41 - Originally the Astral Claws chapter, the Red Corsairs are the largest new legion of Chaos to form since the Horus Heresy, having fallen to chaos during the Badab War, which was the main war that everyone cared about during Rogue Trader. They're more attractive a prospect for joining from marines not descended from the original 9 Traitour legions due to their young age, and the broad elitism of the older legions. They also have been known to utilize xenos crewmen as well. Thousand Sons - M30 - The cobalt-blue Egyptian psyker legion with heavy amounts of gold trim and yellow colours. When painted up, these guys are straight dripping. Rivals of the Space Wolves after what they'd done on Prospero. Word Bearers - M31 - Lots of daemons and religious cultish texts and motifs. Their primarch actually wrote the holy scripture that the Adeptus Ministorum/Ecclesiarchy uses to this day worshipping the God-Emperor, and was also the first primarch to fall to Chaos. They have a rivalry with the Ultramarines after the Emperor had the latter burn down the Word Bearer's most prosperous city on their homeworld pre-heresy. World Eaters - M31 - The most vicious and brutal of the Chaos legions, the World Eaters are all in on chain weapons and melee. They don't really have any specific rivalries with anyone, as they just fight and attack everyone, even each other.
I love this scheme it is exactly what I think of when I think of the Carcharadons. It would be really cool to see your take on the Exorcists. They are another obscure chapter that delves more in the weird esoteric side of the 40k universe.
I'd like to think that in an alternate universe, Jay still collects centurions he just paints them as carcharodons (those siege drills are just begging for some blood for the blood god). I think this guy needs a buddy though, mayhaps a Mantis Warrior 👀 or call up a friend from his class of '86 highschool days and do Crimson Fists! ✊
I got back into 40k last year and Primarused up my Carchrodons, painting them in a Camo style based on a White Dwarf photo form the early 90s....man Im happy to hear that Im not alone with my love with this chapter, I had to buy a proxy chapter master but so happy with the model of Tyberos
About the reiver thing: their attacks are AP0 which means any more elite character will save on base save (2 or 3+) so basically a whole lot of low-strenght papercuts.
I think a tiny bit of gloss varnish over those black eyes would look fantastic, I've some Tyranid players go for a super glossy black eye on a relatively mat model and it looks terrifying.
Oooo could you please do Sons of the Phoenix? I feel like you would do an amazing job at them because you already do an amazing job with your Black Templar and they're basically like Emperor's Children Black Templar(I know not exactly but I mean in kit bashing terms)
Probably my second favorite chapter. I have 1 squad of them but have always want to make more. I also made my Space Sharks eyes black but glossy like a sharks eyes with just a dot a white like light catching the lens.
A really good book I read about Carcharodons called "The Red Tithe" actually covers what happens when they go to a planet and just... take everyone who lives on it, and how the Imperium kind of has to deal with a planet suddenly going completely dark like that. It's really cool, and also has Night Lords in it, for anyone who likes those guys. As for the next chapter you paint, another sealife themed chapter that would be really cool to see are the Dark Krakens, a Salamander successor chapter that trains extensively (and ironically) at the bottom of it's ocean planet homeworld. I think they'd be super fun because you don't really see that theme of deep sea fighting much in this sci-fi space setting. Totally not being biased since they're my army or anything :)
You can't say that something is simultaneously highly popular and also obscure. We're talking about people familiar with the medium and if they're all mostly online then they're just plain popular.
I took it to mean that we all know about them, and it is most definitely popular in the community, but now it is bleeding into popular parlance, just like Ultra Marines to non players. Regardless, this is a pedantic comment, and i have to wonder what point you were trying to make? Are we really arguing over nuance? Is this where we are at on this page? No fun. No fun at all. We gotta lighten this thing up a bit.

Dark Krakens would be a neat one to see. Some unique things you can do with them, like bioluminescent green paints.
Honest to god the reason I subscribed to your channel was that you call them magazines and not clips. You're a good one!
Raptors next?😊 With lots of pouches!😁
Try the Necropolis Hawks, a successor chapter to the Raven Guard
Woo Finally! My Chapter!
Happy Shark Noise's ! 🦈 Ashen claw's would be nice next.
Beautiful job. Love your idea for an army list for them.
I love this idea of painting a single model from different chapters! very cool idea!
Would LOVE to see some Celestial Lions on the project table!!
Nice work with the shark freehand!!
we have space sharks. mantis warriors now pretty please
Would love to see you take on the Crimson Fist. The classics
Using Horus Heresy MkVI armour as a nod to the old RTB01 kit
@@e_m_met Absolutely!
Beautiful work, Jay! I'm confident this won't be your "Jump The Shark" episode! Keep 'em coming!
*That's what he said...*
I love how midwestern-nerd this channel is. It's a very specific vibe. Like a small local anime convention
Yes finally after many months yes even though it's not Tyberous it's still a Space Shark I just hope you decide to do Tyberous someday I hope 😸
About the reiver thing: their attacks are AP0 which means any more elite character will save on base save (2 or 3+) so basically a whole lot of low-strenght papercuts.
Personally I think this is one of the best marines you’ve done, an army painted up like that would be a sight
Once again, I am requesting Libators! A worthy challenge indeed.
Sons of Medus. Iron Hands successor chapter. Bright lime green and white.
I think a tiny bit of gloss varnish over those black eyes would look fantastic, I've some Tyranid players go for a super glossy black eye on a relatively mat model and it looks terrifying.
We serve the Shade Lord. We prowl the darkness at the edge so you sleep safely. We rend renegades to bits. Thanks for the shoutout.
FINALLY! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR *MONTHS*
Love the added rivets to spice up a Primaris guy. I'm once again requesting a Dark Kraken for a future mini.
Seeing a panted Hawk Lord would be sick
Love the freehand.
Awesome painting and cool conversiom 😊
J... The Carcharodons were fighting against the Mantis warriors...
Oooo could you please do Sons of the Phoenix? I feel like you would do an amazing job at them because you already do an amazing job with your Black Templar and they're basically like Emperor's Children Black Templar(I know not exactly but I mean in kit bashing terms)
Crimson Fists next, please.
12 seconds 💀
Never stop the persistence
In metal
This guy is never gonna give up
A true son of Dorn
I want to see you to paint either Raptors or Retributors next!
Probably my second favorite chapter. I have 1 squad of them but have always want to make more. I also made my Space Sharks eyes black but glossy like a sharks eyes with just a dot a white like light catching the lens.
my favourite chapter lol Tyberos is just too cool
I would love to see how Jay would portray all of the Founding Legions, Traitor Blood Angels, Loyalist World Eaters etc.
YES! Finally some love for my sharky boys. Thank you!
Please can we have a studio tour Jay?!
Lock tight gel super gun is my number 1 goat for all my minis
I would love to see you painting some Dark Krakens chapter. I find the mix of black and purple elements quite challenging to paint.
Finally my favourite chapter
Thanks!!!! These are my unit!
Their background is obscure, and that’s what makes them popular. I don’t see how this is difficult to understand
finally a space shark! not what i expected but it came out good
Paint the IRON SNAKES!!
The Minotaurs would be definitely cool chapter to try out
These are soooo awesome, thanks for making me aware of these😄
Try a standard paper punch on plasticard to make your round shields, nicked your idea and put small shields on Sargents.
I'd love to see your take on the internet/emperors rage made manifest, The Angry Marines. I'd love to see how you'd go about this chapter
Exorcists are cool as hell!
I would love to see some Howling Griffons !! 🙏
... you refered to him as your 'little baby shark'
That made me laugh.
Thanks for the video, always love your positivity! Keep up all the awsome work, and I'll keep watching!
Love it. Since you're already at the Badab war why not the best sad boys Lamenters.
I would like to see you paint up a space marine like the ones in the intro of the show 🤘🏻
Great video. I'm surprised there isn't more space shark love
Yooooooo Jay I would love to see you do the Void Tridents next!
CELESTIAL LIONS!!!
Awesome model man, gotta try Charnel Guard!
